It's because the one you looked up on google was the gasoline engine, the one on this video is the European diesel engine. Diesel's tend to have more torque and better towing.

Does anyone know what tow hitch / tow bar this Jeep is running? I like that its the under mount and it's almost hidden.

This is the UK version so ios the RV. it is a Diesel not sold in the USA. I have the 2017 Deseerthawk tows 2000 pounds but if a class III hitch you can squeeze a few more pounds...

Mike, I Know that, I retired from Chrysler and I am well versed on the FCA vehicles, I own a Dodge Journey and a Dodge Durango. Its not always the engine that restricts towing, its the rear frame etc. Europe allows more towing capacity for some reason.

Basically, it's because Europeans actually know how to drive while towing. (I'm an American BTW.) It has nothing to do with mechanical limits. I ALWAYS go by the European rate for my towing here in the USA. They have a lower enforced speed limit while towing, AND in most places caravan towing is a required part of getting a drivers licence as far as I know. Compare that to the good 'ole USofA where we get our learners permit at say, 16, complete a "test" and bam we can drive a f350 superduty with a 65 foot trailer on it. Heck in most states we can tow DOUBLES. That is, a trailer hooked to a trailer. Not only that, but we can then go 90 MPH down the interstate legally. Yeah. Me? I towed a 16 foot RV from Michigan to Arizona and back again with a 1993 2 door Geo(Suzuki) Tracker(Sidekick/Vitara) 1.6L four banger with 200k miles on it. Right through terrible snow storms and etc. Trailer loaded weighed double what my car did. Never got pulled over once, AND I also lived too. I'am an absolutely excellent driver and know the limits of my machine and self. That said, it's fairly horrifying that I was able to breeze past police with that setup. Did I mention that the roof of the tracker had a ladder and air tank, and that I had welded a class three hitch on the FRONT of the vehicle with a 500LB cargo carrier loaded to the point it eclipsed one of my headlights? Yeah. 'Merica. Wintered in AZ for 6 months that trip too, so plenty of time for someone to notice. As a side note, Suzuki vehicle are unkillable. I proved that with that trip alone. That vehicle NEVER once broke down in the near 25 years it was in service, and it's still going for the next owner. I replaced it with a Jeep Liberty CRD for the 7,500lb tow rating and near 30MPG that my Tracker so effortlessly got. TLDR; They are actually sane and trained on towing in Europe. In the USA people do NOT know how to drive while towing safely, and we are allowed to go the full speed limit.

My primary question is how something with a recommended max towing GVW of 2000lbs can pull 3500, or are there vehicle differences I'm not catching?

a real jeep doesn't need a lot of horsepower, my old m38A1 tows our caravan every year from holland, to high up in the france mountains, with just 72 hp

looks like alot of fun. i just watched a few of your videos and i gotta say touring around europe in a jeep like that is what dreams are made of. I bet you get constant attention and dont even feel like a show off. Its more of a mechanical marvel to the average person than a status symbol id say plus theres no mistaking it for anything else everyone knows its a jeep.

When you pull it with a Jeep, it's no longer a caravan. It becomes a travel trailer. Or just "trailer". Now when you consider it's not really a Jeep, but rather just a Fiat in a Jeep inspired body... then it's back to being a caravan.

You do a review on a one day driving experience. Try saying good things about these FIAT junkers in 10 years or when the engine and transmission reach 150,000 miles or 300,000 km. Never buy a FIAT. Never buy a European car.
