GETTING TO KNOW MARCELITO POMOY (1) Marcelito is a Filipino singer. Born on September 22, 1984 at Bislig in the heart of the Philippines. When he was young, his father was incarcerated while his mother left him alone with his younger sibling and went to Philippine Capital Manila. His childhood years was a difficult life, for he used to live on the streets to earn something for a living. He’s been singing since 7 years old but only at the age of 18 that he then realized that he could make a career out of it. Marcelito did not manage to complete his studies but started doing odd jobs to earn a living, and a police officer later adopted him. (2) Marcelito unique ability is that he can sing in both a male tenor voice and a female soprano voice. Because of this, he’s able to perform popular male-female duets without a partner. Also he sings both high and low parts, but he switches back and forth between them smoothly. A great performance of Marcelito includes “The Prayer”, “The Power of Love and” “Beauty and the Beast.” (3) Marcelito is the winner of ‘Pilipinas Got Talent’ Season 2 in 2011. As a result of being on the show, he was able to reunite with his family. His mother abandoned him as a child when his father was in prison, and she asked his forgiveness when they met again. His family also attended the show’s finals to see him perform. In 2014 he got married to Joan Paraiso and had one daughter. (4) In 2019 he took part in America's Got Talent: The Champions and earned a fourth runner up. His life story is an encouragement to many young people that there is uniqueness in each person that needs to be stirred up. The pop singer did not let poverty and challenges in life deter his success. ARTIST FOCUS: Marcelito’s talent in music is indeed God’s unique gift to him. He doesn’t acquire it through academic studies, but his naturally cultured dual voices are really beautiful, not only his voice but also the message of this song. His perseverance, courage and confidence in participating various singing contest in order to develop his talent, earn a living and breaking the belt of poverty, I greatly admire. Because of these virtues, finally he was able to realize his dreams to be a musician and above all to reunite his family after many years of breaking up and separation.
