My buddy took shrapnel from zogdogs mortar in a skull right above left ear. Headphones saved his life but regular cut helmet would have saved his headphones and then his head from a shellshock. Thanks for video.

A nomex ski mask and pair of ESS ballistic goggles would be a great addition to prevent eye injury and burns. Also comfort, not from heat, but by keeping bugs out of your eyes and ears. If I'm going to be wearing a low cut ballistic helmet for 2way gun fights, I would probably also want throat and groin armor. Mostly I'd just be using the UpRise Armory/Militech PC that is IIIA coverage all over without plates so you have a starting point for shrapnel protection. I do agree that on the daily that would be overkill and that a boonie hat, sunglasses, and gloves is about all you'd need.

Provided your head isn't too big, you can fit some of the slimmer headphones under a kelvar. I can wear my over-the-head MSA Sordins under my MICH/ACH just fine. You just have to remove the top pad. No muffs? slap the top pad back in there.

Good video. I was talking with an army medic who told me that the US army has found from some studies that the extra protection around the ear may lead to more compression - brain injury. He said it holds in the blast wave. I am no expert. Just reporting what he told me. He favored the more open style. Appreciate your channel and the amazing info.

I roll with my old school K pot. Wore it through the 90s. Only change I have is a NVG mount for my PVS-14s and an updated suspension system (no cone head for me). The old school leather band and foam donut sucked. The K pot was not technically ballistic resistant. It will work for fragmentation and impact though. Remember, no helmet will protect you from being shot in the face.

Everything in life is a compromise. If you see in the old movies, WWII through Vietnam, you'll notice GIs left the chin straps undone on the old pot helmets. This is historically accurate as a nearby blast concussion would catch and fill under the helmet and could literally rip your head off if not just severely injure your neck. I'm not an expert, don't have a dog in the fight... I'd just say roll with what you are comfortable with. Highcut vs Mich, each is a compromise for something else.

Literally EVERYTHING will get bandied about as "the best." What determines "right"...? Meh... You do you, boo. I'm gonna rock my gear, and everyone will have their own stuff. My old ALICE pack still carries just fine. But no way am I wearing a K-pot again. My neck is still mad at me. Again: everyone will make their own choices; I don't think there is a "right" or "wrong" choice.
