A nomex ski mask and pair of ESS ballistic goggles would be a great addition to prevent eye injury and burns. Also comfort, not from heat, but by keeping bugs out of your eyes and ears. If I'm going to be wearing a low cut ballistic helmet for 2way gun fights, I would probably also want throat and groin armor. Mostly I'd just be using the UpRise Armory/Militech PC that is IIIA coverage all over without plates so you have a starting point for shrapnel protection. I do agree that on the daily that would be overkill and that a boonie hat, sunglasses, and gloves is about all you'd need.

Everything in life is a compromise. If you see in the old movies, WWII through Vietnam, you'll notice GIs left the chin straps undone on the old pot helmets. This is historically accurate as a nearby blast concussion would catch and fill under the helmet and could literally rip your head off if not just severely injure your neck. I'm not an expert, don't have a dog in the fight... I'd just say roll with what you are comfortable with. Highcut vs Mich, each is a compromise for something else.
