Some people have heard that line as "Thirty foot Smurfs", others heard it as "Thirty foot smirks". I recall reading or watching an interview with writer/lead singer Chris Ballew, where he claimed it was both ("Smurfs" on one verse, "Smirks" on another"). Either way, it's an observation of towering billboard advertisements he saw in the 90's on the West coast, with celebrities and cartoon characters giving awkward smiles.
