Very few people appreciate the amount of heat that oil lamps produce during winter power outages. Two standard size oil lamps produce as much heat as one 1500 watt electric heaters. I can heat my 2000 sq ft house to a comfortable level with just six lamps while lighting the house in 20 degree weather. You may not be sitting around in shorts and Tshirts but you won't shiver in long pants and a sweater.

I have my grandmother's old oil lamps, after she passed away and everyone got what they wanted, I went in and saw 3 of her old oil lantern's, so I got all 3 ! now she and a twin, Ollie was my granny and Alley was her twin sister, they were born December 25 th 1900, she passed away in 1985. I still can't believe they didn't get them, but lucky me !!!!. However, I don't use them .

Here in Louisiana we experience hurricanes so we keep a supply of oil lanterns in our homes just incase we need them....my mom and grandmaw had them in their homes as well!! I will have to look up the clean fuel and give it a try!! thanks for sharing with us!!! 🙂

We have several lamps past down from family. We have had to use them on a couple occasions. I love them the light is just so soft. We don’t have any with the handles on them that’s handy for hanging out of reach for kids.

I have Amish oil lamps but don't burn them often because of the oil I use. When it's gone, I'll be getting the Firefly oil. And when I build my new home, I'm going to get some lamps like these...so cute!

Oh man, I definitely need to get several of these lamps and the clean oil. Out electricity is forever going out every time the wind blows a little bit. Just yesterday after church we were having our family Christmas with all our kids, sil's and grandkids. 28 of us in all and I had a huge dinner planned and prepped, just needed baking/cooking. Three hours before everyone was to come over, our electricity went off. It finally came back on 55 mins before the party. Dinner was a little late and I had candles, but I sure wished I'd had lanterns.

We like to go antiquing and my husband has always wanted an oil lamp. He found a nice one and did buy some oil for it. We bought from a reputable company, that stated the oil had no smell. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case. I’ll have to check out Firefly oil. 🪔

Our electricity rarely goes out. The electricity wires are all under ground in our development. I live in a Sun City 55 + community. I recently bought some flashlights and a head light that use a usb plug in to recharge them. I also have candles. Merry Christmas to all.

I fell in love with yours and got 2 of the bigger size. I've yet to fill and use them because I heard the fuel can evaporate and I'd hate to waste it in between emergencies. I did get 3 tiny glass traditional style ones and filled those. They're just enough light to fill the others if I need to. I'm using paraffin oil. A few weeks ago my Dad found a black and a red Dietz style lanterns in his garage. Years ago my Mom must have got them on a yard sale, but they smell so probably kerosene in them. I haven't got around to washing them out but now I have 4 big lanterns!!

I loved Jamie on AH. She had a sweet soul. I love those lantern, we have a Vintage Dietz one we still use. Our power goes off all the time and I always light my oil lamps,,,,had to last night when it went off. We used to use kerosene all the time but yeah…kind of stinky if the power is off for a few days. So I switched to lamp oil and it doesn’t have a ton of smell.. Great video.❄️🇨🇦❄️

Those are so beautiful. I have 1 oil lamp that belonged to my Grandmother. I love the glow from it, but I don't like the little black smoke from it. It's not a lot but enough for me to notice. I have a couple of Dietz hurricane lanterns that are on shepherds crooks in our back garden, we just love the look of their gentle light. In our camping days they provided light in the kitchen tent! If there is a late frost in the spring or an early frost in the fall, I will burn them all night to help keep the air moving and protect the vegetables from frost. I am using kerosene as the fuel.

FYI Deitz was the guy who patented the lamp, and it was made and named hurricane because it helped with the wind that would blow out the flame on the the older chimney style lamp. Kerosene is the best fuel price to smell.

I like those lamps a lot! I can remember when I was in girl scouts we had to learn how to clean those kind of lanterns. We used newspaper to wipe the soot out of the inside of them cuz they got really black, so I really like the oil that you use and they don't look like they require much maintenance.

We have oil lamps. One in each room so if the power goes out they are handy. We've been using Lamplight ultra pure paraffin clear lamp oil. But we will be checking out the firefly oil.

I like those lamps. I have oil lamps that were my grandmother's that has glass globes which are fragile and that uses oil that smells. Like the sound of no odor and easy to use. The blue would go so nicely in my living room and kitchen. Will be looking for the fuel you mentioned.

Congratulations to that fantastic video. I also prefer those Dietz light blue lanterns. My favourite ones are the No.20 Junior and the No.80 Blizzard. The Blizzard compared to Junior and other ones is a giant lantern using a 7/8 wick. So it’s brighter than any other of my lanterns.

We have an older oil lamps in wooden holders hanging on our wall. Love the clean fuel idea, didn't know that was a thing. Ours are hard to take from room to room because they aren't lightweight and are all glass.

I have an early production model #8 Air Pilot (made in New York). About late 50's early 60's. It was my dad's & my brother said, throw it away. NO! I kept it and put in a cupboard in 2014. I took it out this month, same fuel in it and just cleaned, removed wick and trimmed and fired it up. Very simple and effective. Where I live, the small ones do not work well. At altitude, you want a taller chimney, to bring in more oxygen. In fact nothing that burns fuel up here works without re-jetting or fiddling.

Quite like those lanterns. As hurricane lanterns, have you tried them outside. I have a number of glass coal oil lanterns but finding replacement wicks has been a problem. I did find some but it took a bit. They do not burn as nice as yours however. I have found that my solar/electric charge flashlights shining on ceiling actually cast more light...However, I like my lanterns!

THANK YOU for the clean fuel info. I have lamp fuel on my list to get stocked up on but want to find the cleanest option. I love the oil lamps too but have been leaning more on my battery operated candles because of the possible toxicity of the lamp fuel.
