Here is another classic episode of The Price Is Right featuring a brand new game, Credit Card! This was also the same day that MTV's first game show, Remote Control made its premiere.

Credit Card was a fun game until it lasted on Halloween 2008 during the Drew Carey era. I missed this game.

Now there's speculation that Magic # may be retired, given that it's been five months since its last appearance, and the easy difficulty yet with some dumb contestants may be giving this game the boot after nearly 30 years. Shopping Spree just isn't quite the same; more like a lame Danger Price knockoff!

Insert the credit card into the slot and you'll learn the credit limit

This aired on my 5th Birthday on WBNG Ch 12 Binghamton following Action News at Noon with Greg Catlin. We just moved to Deposit, New York from East Keansburg, New Jersey a couple weeks earlier at the time.

It was such a treat when Bob would "interview" the models. Holly was and is my all-time favorite TPIR model and her response at 22:55 is a perfect example of why.

You gotta love Holly. She was so sweet and down-to-earth. Beautiful girl and a beautiful person. I would love to meet her.

@30:31 waving goodbye to the Washer & Dryer as The 10 Chances wall opens to reveal the car. I think they used the 10 Chances wall more than a decade later in the Any Number Game when the smaller prize was a pair of recliners.

Something else important in history happened on December 7 but it escapes me now.

Oh, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know! It was uh...uh...now, wait! Don't tell me, don't tell me! I know it has to do with March or...some other month with an "R" in it! They made a film about it! Uh...on second thought, don't call us, we'll call you!

Not only was it the debut of Credit Card, December 7 was also the day of the bombing of Pearl Harbor and on the same day of this TPIR episode, the premiere of MTV’s Remote Control

The foghorn (MRRP) got a lot of mileage in this episode, being used for Credit Card, One Away, and Most Expensive pricing game wise. And that may have been the game (not sure if it was 100% true) where I think it initially was going to be in the second half (Act 5) but Bob wanted it in Act 1 or 2 due to how long the game would take and threatened not to do the show if the demand wasn't met. At the time Frank Wayne was the boss and CBS got involved to move it to Act 1. I think that began the way of Bob having more control of the show and more often so when he became Executive Producer.

That cue to describe the prizes in Credit Card, IMO, should’ve been a car cue.
@Freeway4sho3 жыл бұрын
Was this the first any only time that cue was used for this game?

In a crazy way, that cue reminded me of the 80s version of TATTLETALES.

As a kid, I could never understand why they looked so bummed at winning the piggy bank, to me $4 was 2 whole weeks worth of allowance.
@pannoni84497 жыл бұрын
And in 1972 when it launched, it was usually a couple hour's pay at work and/or a free tank of gas. By 1987, $4.29 was around the price of a movie ticket and/or a lunch at McDonald's, so it was definitely approaching Drew's "Buy a burger" cliche by this time.

My thinking is that most people would have the thought process that this is "their one chance" to get on the stage to win something big. Just food for thought?
@graigmellon78744 жыл бұрын
Well, they wanted the car, especially when it came down to the last selection. Winning the middle prize was ok though, and in 1972 was actually like a one bid item, very rare back then in the 70s it would be used for a trip sometimes.

should anyone have it, can somebody upload the episode aired november 10 1998? if not the full ep, a clip of the contestant playing plinko would be fine. as the contestant playing is my mother.

I see that Ryan Rinkerman has a copy of that episode in his collection. Unfortunately, I contacted him a few months ago and still haven't gotten any response back from him. You might want to try his Facebook page though if you have something to trade with him. www.angelfire.com/planet/rinkerman/Price.html

+pannoni 8 darn, not much into the trading circuit, don't have anything to trade, but if you can, if he still has it, could you please upload that episode? I've been looking for that episode for years! I used to have that ep, but you know how tapes go!

The game is easier if you know what the prices would be divisible by 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. so that you can get the correct cards to get to 21 or close to it.

Credit Card should never have been retired - why it was axed 2 years into Drew's run is a mystery.
@pannoni8449 Жыл бұрын
There's the "Expires 12/07" theory, since the final playing came less than a year later. I'd bring this game back with a Crypto-theme using a computer terminal.

I miss credit card it was a good pricing game and I wish they would bring it back and also I miss MTV remote control it should come back.
Yes. It was last played in 2008, likely due to the long time taken to describe the prizes, though some blame the retirement on the economic recession. Interestingly, it is the only game to be retired to have its final playing on Halloween.
@6py78 жыл бұрын
As Bob would say, that's an historic moment being retired on Halloween!
@alexhoule18248 жыл бұрын
It's not officially retired.

Alex Houle Yes it is! “Credit Card” ended in 2008, and the final playing was during the Halloween episode in the Drew Carey era.

@@Musicradio77Network According to wiki of the price is right credit card, they put it on hiatus for awhile and they'll just refurbished for over a couple decades, hopefully it's possible to bring credit card back, hopefully idk.
