Just to let everyone know The Price is Right had a prime-time version that lasted only a few years which is why Tom was the host. Also the rule for Punch-A-Bunch is that if one of your punches happens to be one of the two that has a $10,000 slip in it the game is automatically over and you win, it's an automatic win. Hence the intro being you could win UP to $10,000! Today it is up to $25,000 and I think there is only one slip that is $25K, but there are still two $10K slips. Unlike before, you could give up the $10K to go for the $25K, but you would be an idiot if you gave that up.
@benjaminvlz6 жыл бұрын
There's also a "car" card now that wins you a car. Also, they no longer have those "second chance" cards that win you a free punch, so you can only win up to 4 punches max.

Although, I think they did away with the "Second Chance" slips. So the way it works now is if the contestant earns all 4 punches, then they get just that: 4 punches, and no more. All they can do at that point is pray that one of the holes they picked is the one with the $25,000 slip in it.

On Kathleen's second punch, around 2:51, the paper covering the hole floated down to the ground. I initially thought it was the inside paper that said the amount of money on it and that that was going to be what made it unusual, because Tom would have reached in, not found anything, and they'd have to give her the top prize anyway because they thought the slip was left out by mistake and couldn't be sure of what was supposed to be on it.

It’s interesting how people keep wondering how it would have been if Uncle Bill (Cullen) would have taken on the newer version (though sadly he definitely wasn’t ambulatory enough for the gig), and Bob definitely brought on his own style…but Tom and Bill (being ex-brother in laws once removed natch) definitely have a similar style of hosting. In a way, watching Tom’s episodes kinda brings it’s own old-style/orthodox program in and of itself that’s actually pretty refreshing-especially the episodes where Gene Wood announced! It’s a nice little break from the LSD Trip that Barker Price can be sometimes (and we love it) 😊 I can imagine the homecoming party that Uncle Bill is throwing for Bob now 👼 Aside from the models, the gang’s all there! Which, to Bob and the audience’s M amazement (and his wife’s horror), he offered to return… Bob asked Bryan’s wife, Carlotta, what he should do…she said “Keep it.” Bob asked the audience to together tell Bryan what to do…they yelled “KEEP IT!” Bryan’s response: “Audience, if you’re scared, buy a dog. I’m going for it.” Bob went to the next punch, saw it, acted like Bryan had made a grave mistake, then opened the card that said $10,000 to everyone’s joy. It’s definitely on KZbin.

Man its crazy how much this show didn't change style wise when Bob Barker came on board. Hell Bob Barker even had a similar accent, its just that old Bob really knew how to draw out a moment, how to work a contestant, how to make this these simple games a ton of fun. That was Bob's gift to the show and why it was so great IMO, he could interject the fun and excitement for a dull/petrified fish contestant, he could make people with stage fright feel right at home, help inject some excitement into their segment. And with that energetic personality, he needed no help, sometimes the contestants provided all the energy and craziness.

"Man its crazy how much this show didn't change style wise when Bob Barker came on board." What are you talking about? Bob Barker was the original host of the current incarnation of The Price is Right (originally called "The New Price is Right"), which started in 1972. There was an earlier game show that was also called The Price is Right that aired from 1956 to 1965 that was hosted by Bill Cullen, but the format was so different than the 1972-to-present version that it might as well have been a completely different show. The guy in this video, Tom Kennedy, only hosted a half-hour nighttime version of The Price is Right from 1985 to 1986, which didn't affect the standard one-hour daytime version of the show hosted by Bob Barker.

The nighttime version with Kennedy only ran for one season, so this has to be 1985-1986, so just over 30 years ago.

A lot of the game show hosts from that era were more or less cut from the same cloth. I mean that in a good way, they had a lot of the same type of personality. Tom Kennedy said that he was somewhat intimidated by Bob Barker's domination of the show, and he wanted to do the nighttime version justice.

Kerry Schlegel I can...1985-1986 the newer nighttime version was on. Luckily it was on in the Detroit market on Channel 2 @ 7:30. I say luckily because the 3 major channels there were always pre-empting and running garbage in certain time spots all day.

@@nickhill8612 You're right TPIR did go to an hour in 78. NOW YOU SEE IT had a board with different Names, words, titles etc... Jack would ask a question, you had to find the answer & name line & position of the answer. There may be few episodes here.

Tom Kennedy is one of my favorite game show MCs. He’s the brother of Jack Narz, host of Now You See It. Tom hosted Whew!, Password Plus after Allen Ludden, Body Language and WordPlay...and this nighttime Price. He always ran the shows with a positive attitude and made the contestants and guest stars feel at home.
