Yeah. Germany for some reason does not like to operate warships of "Destroyer" designation anymore, I can't confirm if the old wives tale of "it sounds too aggressive" is true or not. However, to make up for this, we simply build the largest "Frigates" going to sea... The "Hessen" is actually an older model of the "Sachen"-Class, with 5800 tons displacement. The successor "Baden-Würtemberg"-Class is 7100 tons displacement. For comparison, an Arleigh-Burke class destroyer is only about 1500-2000 tons heavier...

…. ask our neighbours, especially Poland, if they wish to see a strong german military again. the russia-ukraine war has revealed, that germany is still covered by the shadows of ww2. foreign media coverage overwhelmingly ignores the fact that Germany is in fact Ukraine's second largest supporter when you add it all up and include the arms swaps through the ring swap program (particularly including old Russian tanks for modern German tanks). Nevertheless, one hears constantly that Germany is doing far too little and is not keeping its promises, etc.

Lieutenant (not Second Lieutenant or LT. JG) Franziska Friedrich was NOT Executive Officer of the Hessen. She was the Second Navigation Officer (II NO). But never mind correctnes. And I never fail to amaze the US Navy's appreciation of shouting whereas in the German Navy, we preferred the less noisy and subdued "singsong".
@petesheppard17092 жыл бұрын
The German practice certainly sounded odd to my American ears, but it seems to be effective in ensuring orders are understood.
@thorhh2 жыл бұрын
@@petesheppard1709 It actually works extremely good, even under noisy conditions as in machinery spaces or when weapon systems are going full chat. The only exemption is the command to go "Alle Allez!" which in itself is a weird combination of the German word "Alle" (which translates to: all) and the French word "Allez" (which translates to "come on" or "forward"). This is the only command issued with vigor. The command is meant to order all engines ahead full with a plus, which is a small touch more than ahead full, but still less than "all ahead flank" which is meant to remove / switch off all safety governors on the engines and simply firewall them to anything the fuel system is capable of delivering. On diesel engines (fast patrol boats) this is achieved by hand cranking the fuel pushrods on each engine to the physical limit, whereas on gasturbine driven frigates (the old CODOG ships, the newer CODAGE have other limiters) you moved the engine telegraph to flank, and in one quick move to stop and back up to flank. This "killed" the safeties and enabled the turbines to go beyond the 6500 rpm limit all the way up to 8700and something. You're exhaust will turn yellow and you'll be in for the shock of your life to discover how fast 4500 t of warship can accelerate.

Through strength, we can keep the peace, and stop the spread of communism! The whole world knows the U.S.A. is not an aggressive nation or people. Unless forced in that position. I wish we would have outfitted and repair all of our battleships. The more ships we have on the seas, the more force and dominance we can show and parade. Come on America. Keep our Antiques. @@smyzeqari4897 No one is paying for anything, it's a common populist trope told by US politicians to their retarded voters. They claim that somehow the US is paying for Germany's (and other European NATO countries') defence because they themselves have a ridiculously high military spending while most European countries don't. What they forget to mention is that the US spends most of it's defence spending on their neocolonial network of 700 military bases around the world, and that the US needs to be in a constant state of war and have massive defence spending or else their country would collapse. The US defence industry is extremely interwoven with lobby groups and their politicians, called the "military industrial complex". What those US people also seem to forget is that while European NATO countries spend billions of Euro's each year purchasing US-made military hardware, meanwhile the US spends pretty much zero purchasing European-made military hardware. And let us not forget that in the countless US wars of agression and imperialism since the end of WWII, us European countries have spent many tens of billions of Euro's coming to the aid of the US in those wars on top of losing thousands of our soldiers to those wars as well. Meanwhile the US has not come to the aid of a single European NATO country even once.

your English is perfect! It's quite normal for allied or NATO members to have one or a few members from other countries onboard. Building relationships between countries military, learning from each other, etc. (similar to an exchange students), the Norwegian Navy had an officer of the US Navy onboard a Norwegian frigate, on it il fated day (sinking of "HNoMS Helge Ingstad"), while Norway had at the same time officer onboard US ships. French was there probably to build a relationship and learn how the German Navy works, so both navies can work better together. Norway and other countries sends their ships and crew to UK for safety "exams", and sometimes sendt them to USA for weapon certification. I also noticed at least one person in US Navy uniform. Since _Hessen_ was operating with US ships, a liaison officer is understandable.

Germany has the 3rd largest nato navy in europe rn, 11x frigates, 5x corvettes and 6x submarines. And its expanding, by 2030 it’ll consist of 4x light frigates, 6x brand new ASW frigates (F126), 6x brand new air defense destroyers (F127), 10x corvettes (K130 T1 and 2), 6x brand new amphibious support ships (NTV130) and 9x brand new submarines (Type 212CD).

@@dopepopeurban6129 Please stop. Only a tiny fraction of all that hardware is actually operational and the german navy couldn't even defend the german coastline. The german army in general is not a modern military and those who enlist there are not exactly the best and the brightest and it shows.

2 months ago. 4th April 2024. I saw Sachsen class frigate off the coast of Plymouth England. There is another ship, I believe it was Dutch destroyer. I could not see the hull number, but from the Silhouette. They were certainly Sachsen class and De Zeven Provincien class.

Al ver al Hessen recuerdo a los grandes y bellos acorazados de bolsillo que fabricaba Alemania en la II guerra mundial., los aliados no tenían el ingenio para replicarlos, ellos solo tenían cantidad no CALIDAD...!!!
