True story Emma. While filming the scene up on the battlement when Westley, Inigo, and Fezzik are discussing how to storm the castle, Andre The Giant let out a 16 second fart that brought filming to a halt and left the actors and crew in stunned silence. Everyone was afraid to say anything until Rob Reiner, the director asked "Are you okay, Andre?" He replied "I am now boss." Carey Elwes has shared the experience in multiple interviews through near tears of laughter. You've got to love Andre. What a kind soul and absolute legend!

Another fun fact. Actor Mandy Patinkin, who played Inigo Montoya, had recently lost his father to cancer when he was 18, only a few years prior to filming The Princess Bride. When Mandy kills Count Rugen near the end of the film, you can hear him briefly lose his accent as he delivers the line "I want my father back, you son of a bitch." In an interview, he has stated that he was speaking directly to the cancer that took his father when he said that line. It definitely adds another layer to the scene. What a phenomenal actor. This is honestly one of the most pure and wonderful films in my collection. I watch it frequently. I hope you add it to your collection too. If you're ever feeling down or hopeless, this movie will bring a smile of comfort to your face 🥰

Andre also legendarily drank a bottle of hard liquor, a bottle of wine, or two and 12 beers for lunch. Then he passed out on the floor. By evening he had shaken it off, and landed a scene.

And nobody could move him, so he slept where he landed. Probably not the first time that happened. Also, his hands were so large that he could hold a can of beer and you wouldn't even know it.

yes, Andre would drink large quantities, often to little effect, to counter the back pain he had for years, but he rarely did that for lunch. he did pass out on the floor once and was left until he woke up in the morning, but it was at night, in a hotel's public space. Carey's memoir of making the movie, As You Wish, is a great read and has a number of these stories. iirc, it has a picture of Andre holding a large drinking glass that looks like a juice glass in his hand.

Many wrestlers have said he loved to watch it in his hotel rooms and always invited them to come watch it with them. And it's true, what others have said about him being a gentle giant. The actress who played Buttercup said that when it got cold out, Andre would palm the top of her head to help keep her warm. His hand was big enough to almost entirely cover her skull!

The scene with Wesley and the six finger man when the six finger man hit him in the head was real and the actor who plays Wesley had to go to the hospital. There was real spark between the main actors in real life Westley and Buttercup that's why it works. To put it in perspective I was a little younger than the sick kid being told the story! I was instantly hooked. As time passed I memorized all the words and came to understood most innuendos as well as the lessons this film/anti-fairytail teaches. (Westley was my childhood crush btw, I even subconsciously date men that resemble Cary elwes lol) Perhaps one of the hardest lessons I’ve been previously exposed to by this movie and recently experienced for myself was the loss of my father, the very man who introduced me to this wonderful movie. I even watched it the night he passed. Tbh I haven’t been able to watch it in full since. These reactions are helping me enjoy this masterpiece again.
