Optional pass systems benefit those who know how to work the system at the expense of the casuals who don't know how to abuse it. Lots of similarities here compared to the Disney Fast Pass system. Both situations tanked the experience of the casual base for marginal benefit to the most experienced and knowledgeable customer base.

@Oniri245 exactly. It's okay that two guys are doing spycrab in spawn and a hoovy is giving sandwiches to the other team, because you still have nine mercenaries actually getting stuff done. @@IrisXen It was always a vague thing as well, because Que times could go faster than expected even without the pass. So the over all feeling was the passes did almost nothing good. Realth thank you for this video. I’m never able to explain to people the complexity of why OW/tank suffered in OW1, and it’s because I didn’t have a 20min video to do so and I forgot about priority passes (you even pointed our some issues with the system I didn’t even realize). In open queue if you played tank you couldn’t guarantee a second tank player to take the heat off you, it was essentially playing 5v5 solo tank but with less HP and an additional player to shoot you. You also couldn’t guarantee having two supports or even just one so you could efficiently resource trade. Playing Rein without a support, he becomes not a character after taking just 300 damage. No wonder people didn’t tank then! It wasn’t a problem with people not liking tank itself. Your only options were Rein/Winston/Zarya/Dva for teamwork tanks, and if you wanted to solo tank or be more DPS forward, it was Hog. Adding AFK shield Orisa and strange playstyle Ball was not going to attract people to the role. Let alone the addition of Brig and later Baptiste which invalidated DPS, but if they did that to DPS imagine how little fun it is as tank since you have even less damage! Then we get role queue and it’s instant double shield meta due to Brig/Bap and the addition of Sig. 222 Role Lock was smothered in the crib. Then all the issues you talk about in this video occur, and no wonder people didn’t like tank in role queue either. People act like tank just isn’t fun full stop, and don’t take the time to think about or consider WHY. Going forward we now have so many more tank options and very fun ones at that. We can have a system where you can reliably have another tank and support so you don’t feel useless choosing the tank role, whether it’s 222, min 1 max 3, open queue role limit on tank/support to 2, or hybrid queue. Then finally Blizzard just needs to rework all the immortalities and make sure AOE healing is either nerfed or has a drop off like Lucio’s, like they refused to do. People have told them the answer on this for years, hopefully now they listen.

I used OQ Comp to work on my Wrecking ball knowing I was gonna be only tank & probably not have a support either, it taught me self sustain & now he’s one of my best tanks along with Winton & Sigma in OW2. @GraphiteBlimp2722 күн бұрын
@@CGTradezYeah it is possible to make it work, but I’m just explaining why people dropped the role in OW1. I still played tank but a lot of it was suffering. Ball is a great hero for solo tanking, and why I’m in favor of open queue role limit to 2 tanks & 2 supports. So theoretically you could run triple DPS/ball or quad DPS ball/Mercy (or whatever modern version people can come up with), but at the same time it prevents GOATS or similar tank/support stacking.

Now you have players who are just grinding the battle pass with less motivation to be competitive. This competitive element of OW has always been a problem since 'winning' is linked only to whether your team gets the win. Its quite common to get total mismatches in games where one player is going full send tryhard while several other players are in NPC mode. The game would be much better if the primary reward was for individual contribution, but it seems like it would be too much effort for them to design a system capable of actually determining an individual contribution score.

I like playing all roles to some degree. I think I earned the handful of games I threw trying and failing to play Hanzo by trying and failing to carry my team across the finish line playing the other two roles. I do not, however, like ONLY being allowed to play tank and support because there is a 20 minute difference in queue time for a dps game even when I'm partaking in the stupid priority system. It definitely moved me towards quitting the game, at least. It's a bullet I wasn't willing to bite, and when the game stopped being fun as a result of it I just moved on.

As the person that used to play dps Moira/D.va/etc well before role select was even added, I can thoroughly say from first hand experience that you need a certain amount of getting good at teamwork before you lock in one of those roles. Sure I would regularly go quad gold with moira, but I absolutely would've had a higher winrate if I actually put in the effort to keep the team together and maximize my healing. Even now when she's not nearly as strong as she was back then, I can easily turn team fights into 5v2s by just infinitely keeping people healthy and switching to damage to recharge. Not as flashy, but many times as effective.

Personally, I do not think that the 6v6 testing will go well without a ton of tuning and overhaul. All new modes and maps are made for 5v5 (kind of like how the old ones were made for 6v6) Heroes have been entirely reworked to better fit 5v5 instead of their origins which were built for 6v6. All new heroes are designed for 5v5. A solid chunk of players will have zero knowledge of 6v6 gameplay since they joined during OW2 and its 5v5. I think 6v6 can work, but it will need a ton of reworking and overhauls to be viable. If they just toss it in after confirming its playable, it will be awful and not even a fair judgement of the mode. Unfortunately, I do not put it past Blizzard to just toss it in and let it drown.

As far as I can tell its either something to help minimize server costs or a way of distributing more players into a more varied team with all 3 roles I think. I don't see why you'd need to do that in the first place though, as it feels kinda arbitrary to say "Hey! Either play the class that is most needed right now, or wait a significant amount of time because you want to choose your class", which sounds quite unfun.

Overwatch died because it was never allowed (because of Bobby Kotick and Activision) to become the PvE game that team 4 always meant for it to become. It was kept stuck as a PvP game, preventing what it could have been from ever coming to fruition. RIP Overwatch PvE, the dream of you died when Jeff quit Blizzard. But hey, I would've quit too if I learned that my vision was no longer possible. I don't blame Jeff at all. Overwatch PvP was just a proof of concept for the game. It's such a shame, we could have genuinely had the next WoW on our hands.

If you make a game, that people love to death, that's fun to play for casuals and competitive players, that wins Game of the Year as the first PvP game ever to do so, why would you change it. Bobby Kotick is a piece of shit, but the one thing he was right about was that Blizzard should've hired more people to work for Overwatch so that you could have a fully staffed team working on the live service PvP game so that Jeff can go work on his PvE dream game. Jeff's "dream" was no longer possible due to his own poor decisions (like the priority pass system), not because of anyone else. He was the director of Overwatch. His job was to make the best game possible. And that's what he did in 2016. It wasn't what he wanted, but it's what everyone else, including his customers, wanted. His job is to make the customers happy, and that is not what he did because he chased his own selfish ambitions. Don't idolize people. No matter how good you think they may be, everyone is always capable of making mistakes. Nobody is perfect.

Roll my eyes every time I see a clickbait title like this. It didn't kill overwatch - the game is still alive and well, in the top 10 multiplayer games, and it has stayed there since OW2's re-launch. Also, as much as people complain about "abandoning the game" during OW1's time -- let's be real. It was a $40 game that made almost no money beyond the first year. Of course development of new stuff had to slow down to a stop after several years of free updates. It's pointless to hemorrhage money on a product you aren't making anything on that many years after launch. It's the whole reason OW2 re-launched as an F2P game and leaned toward a skin shop -- a more long-term, consistent income to fund content and pay devs. (The loot boxes in OW1 never made any meaningful money - the game gave them out like candy and everyone got everything they wanted (and more) without spending a dime) As much as people cry and say these were 'bad decisions' (stopping updates on OW1, re-launching as F2P, removing loot boxes, adding a skin shop with paid-only skins) - they are actually good decisions that have saved the game for players who actually love the game -- we get new content regularly, tons of new heroes -- but also opened the door for new players to play as much as they want, without any disadvantages, without a $40 bouncer holding them back at the door. The community is healthy, the game is healthy, there are hundreds of thousands of us enjoying our free game daily -- people who say "OW is dead" or other similar statements are really coping because they want to see the game (or Blizzard) fail. That's really what it amounts to.

Ruin balance with bad character design > try to fix balance with role queue > fail to fix balance with role queue > ruin queue with role queue > try to fix queue with priority pass > ruin everything with priority pass > try to fix queue with 5v5 > ruin everything (queue included) with 5v5 > try to fix everything with 6v6 I wonder how they will ruin the game next.

It’s hard not to see the clear desire to “get back to Titan” in the OW1 dev team’s decision making. Months long waits for numbers patches, lack-lustre design structure for Heroes, and hand-waving surface systems like Priority Pass and LFG that barely constituted a new coat of paint. At this point the amount of Trained to Troll reflex in the playerbase is very difficult to contend with, having expanded well beyond the priority pass issues and into general prioritization in gameplay. I don’t know that anything could reasonably start to fix that even with a shift to 6v6, beyond the promised hope (and influx of players who abandoned OW before the TtT kicked in) of a brand new game in the franchise.

just copy the way league of legends works, they have been doing this for years and it works just fine because there was some thought behind it.

I don't even play comp at all. For me the expensive skins and zero ways to earn them without paying what killed the game
