My daddy is one of the officers in this video, so glad everyone liked the video and its gone down well. Gardening is good for the soul no matter who or where you are in life :)

I'm in Washington State here in the United States and our local Monroe Prison has also been involved for quite some years in agriculture and dairy farming. The act of hands-to-the- earth-growing, harvesting, preparing and eating good food is spiritual food for the soul. It's sacred. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!

How fantastic is this, the prisoners that want to do this must enjoy it so much, as we all know, we do love growing stuff 🤗🤗🤗

This is such an inspirational video. So glad the prisoners will be able to get a vocational certificate. Hopefully, this can help them get full time employment once they have served their time. Thank you for doing this video.

Absolutely excellent video. I only wish every prison could grow their own. So many pluses. I used to work with ex-offenders and they loved working outside in physical work because they said it kept them fit and they went to bed tired which kept them out of trouble, their words!

The prison governor expressed to me that the programme is all about rehabilitation, education, and resettlement plans that include a job and a home. 95% of offenders don't come back if they have those two things.

Outside work is good for all whether it may be mental illness, someone who has gone astray or got lost along the way. I find as an everyday person gardening is my therapy to deal with my outside world demons and stresses. It’s such a release. 💕⭐️ regards Maria

Thanks for sharing this great story. Great job on videography as well. We have a prison in our town that us on the grounds of a state. Entail health center that is very old. I worked at both the prison and mental health center and my husband still works for MH. In the beginning the mental health center was a dairy farm and had gardens as well. We have asked many times why are we not gardening on the prison grounds to feed the inmates and cut our state budget. There is a small amount of flower gardening going on but there is a fear of allowing tools and such as we house level 4/5 inmates. We have been in some dangerous situations with them but oh I wish we could garden safely

I can see where that could get hairy. As far as the IOM prison - some prisoners have to be supervised and some not.

Thanks for showing this. I have worked in several prisons, including female ones.the farms and gardens offer valuable work skills and prisoners always value their time there. Lots of prisons have been sold off for their land and smaller more intense units seem to be the norm, with little space for gardens, very short sighted in my view.

That was great! I do think that this is a program that should be implemented in all institutions to help people learn a skill that they can use once they are out to do something that they would never have thought of before. Thanks for the video. I do hope they put in more flowers in the garden though to bring in the pollinators. And, a little bit if beauty is good for the soul too.

Very interesting, I guess it does make sense for vetted prisoners to be trained and given an alternative to their previous life.

Agree wholeheartedly. Without some sort of education or vocational training these guys might find themselves back behind bars. That's good for them and great for the rest of the community.

What an inspiring story, the kind of story I watch until the end. Its unfortunate for someone to end up in prison but if you end up there and there is a place to learn something like this it may help you so much more when you get your release. As the officer said one guy got employed after his release to work in a restaurant. It gives them a sense of seeing that there is more to life and they can contribute in a good way. Thank you for this video.

@Lovelygreens6 жыл бұрын
All are from the Island but there are less than 100 inmates. I understand that a lot of them are in there for traffic violations but couldn’t give a statistic on that. As far as the Island being safe, every place on earth has troubled people.
@jish554 жыл бұрын
This is what inmates should be doing, growing their own vegitables, train and raise service dogs, provide companionship at retirement homes and serving at the soup kitchen, not forced to do slave labor so the economy benefits of them. They're in prison to be reformed, not used as slaves damnit, and it's time we treat them as people again and not numbers in a system.

Phil Naylor This isn’t rewarding prisoners, it’s protecting the community and saving taxpayers money. Every person in this prison will within a few months to under 20 years be back on the streets again. What type of person would you like to see in your community? One that’s on a path to a different future or someone who has a high chance of reoffending? As governor McColm says, giving prisoners a way to have a job and a home cuts reoffending down by 95%.
@cspower72596 жыл бұрын
Yes i fully agree. I can understand what its trying to do and i hope it works. Still aint right tho they get given everything on a plate (House, training, job and money). While their victims suffer in silence with no support.
