For those who know and love the 1968 psychological drama/allegory “The Prisoner,” starring Patrick McGoohan this soundtrack needs no introduction. For others, look it up online. Or better still watch all 17 episodes of this great British TV series which is now available on several streaming sites and platforms.
The music for the series was written by at least three composers; Ron Grainer (Doctor Who-1963) who wrote the theme, Wilfred Josephs and Albert Elms with some help from Bizet and Vivaldi. Guitar legend, Vic Flick (James Bond), also lent his talents to the recording sessions.
The theme and music cues on this souvenir LP are from the original 35mm mag film elements used in the series. Although the music holds up well on its own merits, for those who are fans of The Prisoner it will no doubt conjure up key scenes from the episodes. Incidentally, since the cues originally had no titles but only numbers, the title of the episode and a brief description of where the music appears in that episode has been added to the video. "Be seeing you."
The album that this music is from has signatures of those involved in the mastering and a "Be seeing you" salutation and "I am not a number" declaration etched into the inner core near the label.
