Much underlooked single from seminal 80s band The Prisoners. I would've loved to have seen them play in their prime.
"Shine On Me" came from their brief reformation in the late 90s

Very underrated band and to think people went nuts over stuff like The Charlatans and Inspiral Carpets when The Prisoners had been doing the 60s garage/Hammond organ sound for years and doing it way, waaayyyyy better.

Great memories with this single, one of my old friends was there manager at the time of release. some great night at gigs in London. What a band!! and c'mon Graham Days guitar play and vocals are just ledge. Such a shame they never made it BIG.

I saw them, at the Forum in Kentishtown, when they re-formed and released this. Seemed like something big was finally going to happen for them. Must have been in '94. I flew from in from the USA just to see them. People flew in from all over just to see them.

Tim Burgess mentioning that this song influenced The Charlatans 'The Only One I Know' brought me here. But I assume this was 'new' in 1997 when released so not sure who influenced who? Great track.

Plenty of Prisoners tracks from the earlier back catalogue that would influence TOOIK ( i remember instantly hating The Charlatans when Indian Rope was released because they were … borrowing). Funny though because listening to Deep Purples cover of hush later on got me thinking thinking that indeed - everything that goes around comes around. And Arthur Browns first album has some of my most favourite Prisoners hooks - so yeah….. evolve and keep on keeping on! It’s all good as long as its done with respect. Took me many years to learn that! 👍👍👍👍
