So, I’m creating a D&D campaign from scratch and have Elizabeth I and Mary of Scots as centerpieces/plots, and your videos have helped me figure out sooo many things. Thank you! Edit: grammar

I’ve always wondered, why do royalty always name their children after them and their names are like: Henry the I, Henry the II Henry the III Henry the IIII Henry the V, Henry the VI, Henry the VII,Henry the VIII?!?!?
@TheHistoryTeacherUK4 жыл бұрын
Hiya, the short answer is they don't. Some of the Henry's were father and son but not all. Henry VII was the father of Henry VIII but Henry was his second son and he didn't expect him to become king. But Henry VI was not the father of Henry VII they were vaguely related but not close. There are just common royal names like Edward and Henry. Loads of families name children after other family members. I for example am named after my great aunt.

I will point out that Henry VIII just before he executed his second wife Anne Boleyn had his marriage to her annuled and openly declared Elizabeth a bastard. So Elizabeth's illegitimacy wasn't simply based on Henry's marriage to Anne being illigetimate because his annulment of his marriage to Catharine of Aragon was invalid. When later in his reign Henry VIII put back Mary and Elizabeth into the line of sucession he did not legitimize either of them. (It is highly questionable whether or not Mary and Elizabeth were in fact ever illegitimate.)

Thank you for the comment. The detail in my videos is simplified for the GCSE but I appreciate your input.

If she would've helped her instead of viewing her as a threat , they wouldn've both been in better position and better allies. Marys mistake was trusting lizzie who didnt even trust her! She should've escaped to France adn taken scotland back with a vengance against the scottish lords that deposed her.

Hi, I'm sure you know your history in depth and were I to be engaging with you as an academic. I would love to have a proper conversation, but I'm teaching to the GCSE spec. Comments like these, while I'm sure they make you feel very clever, do not help 15 year old students sitting their exams, they confuse and panic them. Please desist, or I will block you.

If Mary queen of Scots the granddaughter of Henry VIII sister.......how does that make Elizabeth and her cousins?
@TheHistoryTeacherUK3 жыл бұрын
Hey good question! They're not actually cousins, Elizabeth and Mary are actually second cousins. I'm using cousins as a shorthand for their familial relationship.
