I do want to mention! Though real cats are sexually mature at 6 moons, they are still pretty young and often don't have kits until one year. If they do have kits at 6 moons it tends to be very bad for the kittens and the mother. Cats do have kits a lot earlier than warrior cats ones do. I know this doesn't really matter and is related, though-

Yeah, anyone who uses that argument annoys me, it's like how some kids get their periods early, but it doesn't mean it's like a good idea, and often leads to health concerns for the minor and the kid, hence why it's better advised to wait to have kids.

I don't understand why they made Squirrelflight and Bramblestar get back together after the hollyleaf drama since Squirrelflight and Bramblestar seem to work better working together to ran thunderclan without being mates and Bramblestar liked and most likely could've moved on and so could Squirrelflight it seems like they only kept them together to make Squirrelflights hope and for Alderheart and Sparkpelt to be born/raised with their dad as leader and their mother as deputy. Mabye another tom could have been mates with Squirrelflight or mabye even a she-cat depending on the way the books went! Oh by the way great video!

I agree with you, I don’t think they should have gotten back together. If anything, Bramblestar should have gotten with Jessy because in Bramblestar’s Storm he seemed to be really interested in her, and if I am remembering correctly she shut down that relationship because of Bramblestar’s lingering feelings for Squirrelflight and their shared past. As for Alderheart and Sparkpelt, I think they could have just made them Bramblestar and Jessy’s kits, but then had Squirrelflight help care for them/have a close bond with them when they were growing up to keep the whole ‘leader and deputy children’ thing.

I feel like so much of the Inevitable Warrior Cat Incest™ could have been avoided if the Erins didn't insist on giving cats named parents. If Fernsong's parentage was never explained, there would have never been any complaints since as far as we know he just materialized out of thin air with no siblings or uncles or anything. One of the first arc's biggest strengths was the fact that the Erins didn't feel the need to go "Remember Genericfur? This is her kit Backgroundkit! She has a child!" about every second character. Now we have the family tumbleweed instead, just like in Once Upon A Time... except probably worse.

Exactly. They should have just allowed for cats to come out of no one or one cat. Kinda like Harestar and Kestrelflight who both just materialised at first though the tree has prolly changed that. Also more of the clans should be rogues and loners if they are going to name parents.

It's true but you can't forget that the cats don't usually see further in kin than their parents and siblings, sometimes their grandparents or popular ancestors. Plus cats have a thing that makes it harder for incest to turn out bad and it's cats like- my cat had kittens with his sister. It's not that uncommon.

That would be a nightmare if a queen had 11 kits or even 6 again. Yeah would boost the numbers if all live but that would be the longest gatherings having to list them all and the other clans might freak out since that one would have basically doubled their numbers at once. Plus the stress on both the mother and the whole clan to feed so many, (and for drama they would probably be born in winter) would be full hunting all day and night. I'm glad the writers didn't go that far into realistic cats if each queen would normally have half a dozen kids and all the genetic and character problems would just be twice as bad.

I feel like all Ashfur maps except satire ones are basically AUs at this point because of how creepy the Ash/Bramble situation with Squirrelflight. You don’t even want to imagine my surprise at seeing a small comic in Squirrelflight’s Hope (I think) where Squirrelflight is literally a kit while Brambleclaw is a full warrior, like the Erin’s could’ve not had Brambleclaw in the comic at all lmao. And Ashfur is just Squirrelflight’s Uncle! Thunderclan NEEDS other clans to avoid becoming mates with kin.

When I ship my OCs together I think CAREFULLY. Especially if they're no longer together. If they aren't together anymore, why? Are they still on good relations? Do they have kids? Did one leave because the other was abusive, and if yes, how? This is even more true with Warriors, due to the many problem ships in the canon of things. It's just common sense needs to be used, fanon or otherwise. I'm bringing up some of my ClanGen characters because sometimes I like the characters enough to make them developed OCs, and specifically Flashstar and Waspheart. Flashstar is FoxClan's leader, and Waspheart is the medicine cat. I did not make them be mates, it's just the randomness of the game making it a ship. I thought they were about the same age but it turns out Waspheart had a pretty big age gap over Flashstar. So if I wanted to keep most things about them accurate, I'd need to figure out a way to make it less... creepy. So I lowered the age gap to 5 moons out-of-game, and I needed to think of how they got together (because one is literally the Clan leader and knows the Code well, and the other is forbidden from having mates or kits). Then I heard to song Jesus in LA by Alec Benjamin and thought about the line from the chorus "When they sold you the dream you were just 16, packed a bag and ran away". So what about Waspheart, when becoming medicine cat, not thinking about if he'd want a family later, realized he couldn't switch roles to get both of the things he wanted. He got a crush on Flashstar, but obviously hid it to not get demoted from the job he loved. But then Flashstar actually came clean to him and mention SHE had a crush on him, to which Waspheart admitted the same thing. So Flashstar uses her status to hide the relationship, and no one really questions anything. I brought this up as a bit of a cautionary thing, to think about a ship between OCs or canon characters before making it a thing.

That’s such a good idea! I don’t tend to comment anymore, but I just had to applaud you. That was handled very well, I also am a sucker for super thought-out storylines. This was also very unique. Hard decisions/choices with realistic thoughts and sacrifices. Those are some very nice OCs you have there.

@@yawna7881 I have a few other storylines, and another ClanGen one where RageClan is basically BloodClan on steroids and is ruled by a hierarchy. But then poor Ravenfur doesn't want to lead, and somehow gets murdered. It's half murder mystery, and no one ever finds the culprit. Then Ravenfur openly admits he basically called a hit on himself so he wouldn't have to be the target of multiple rogues who want their vengeance.

Before reading Squilf's Hope, I didn't get why everyone seemed to dislike Brambleflight, but now in the third quarter of it, I completely see why. In my opinion, Bramble is rude and cold to Squirrel, seeming to always push her away. And then at one point he's just like "I love you but I love my Clan more but we're still mates okay" and while there's nothing wrong with it, he continues to be (in my opinion) mildly abusive to her. This is all my opinion though, and I also haven't completely finished Squilf's hope and am only at the part where Leaf and Squirrel are in StarClan.

I feel like what makes FernIvy so hated has 2 factors. Mainly is how big of a deal it was that Ivypool and Lionblaze, Fernsong's father, were related since that is the whole crux of OOTS. It makes it to where you can't ignore it even though it is distant. Secondly is that a lot of people were just really upset Ivypool wasn't a lesbian or left up to interpretation, remember BlossomIvy was HUGE when FernIvy became canon. So there was a lot of people mad it was canon that Ivypool was mates with a guy and had kits.

I personally hate Freckle wish x Reed shine ( Maple shades vengeance). People mostly ship these two BECAUSE they share the same trauma with maple shade- I see that as mostly being toxic and not even a good way at all for a reasoning of shipping- And also I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t fall in love with a cat that had kids with someone that basically killed your brother- but hey the warriors fandom is loosing braincells and I can see why.

i don't think it's loosing brain-cells, i think you just grew up and matured to be able to think about these things in a more nuanced way, along with many others in the fandom. -however warrior cats always has and always will be aimed towards a younger demographic. the adult or older audience is just sort of sticking around because the concepts are interesting for head-cannon prompts and frankly? nostalgia is one hell of a drug. in other words, the fandom isn't loosing brain-cells, (it's always lacked those. =P /j) you're just now mature and experienced enough to see the immaturity you didn't notice before, because you possessed it as well at the time. now there's a new generation of younger fans who naturally just need more time to mature. that doesn't mean they're more stupid than the rest of us of course, but we'd be wrong to expect and demand they, children, automatically hold the same experience as us elder-fans.

Even new Skyclan had to ship cousins when they come from freaking people's PETS so new blood was totally open and available to interduce new breeds and family lines. But the whole thing with both Sparkpelt and Ivypool enraged me deeply, they deserved unrelated mates if they really HAD to be mothers for the plot. Fern's personally and character has nothing to do with being Lionblaze's son, really how he acts is not even close to how I would see being raised by Lionblaze so idk why even make him related or that long, that little detail is unnecessary. When I read through the older books it NEVER was obvious or blunt that Dust/Fern or Bramble/Squirrel were 'related'. If u don't follow all the prequels and novellas they add in all the time you would not even know about who they came from. Sandstorm, Dustpelt and Ravenpaw read as just young characters back in the day, it wasnt clearly stated in their parents were nor did the ever interact with their 'families' in the firsts series. Later things were added and put together. But anyone who read through half hearted with that 'kin of your kin' prophesy could notice Firestar's family ARE and acted as so up till the Last Hope and thus why they let Ivy be with Lionblaze's son still shocks me. Hollyleaf didnt die for this, Ivypool could have have been a kickass aunt figure to Lion's kids since Holly is gone. I am so sad to be robbed that now. The fandom does do cute things with them and I do like Bristlefrost's character but its all just too cringe for me to fully enjoy the story anymore and just getting worst, the writers are just not giving any crap about bringing in new families into the picture when there were alot of ways to go about it.

I feel like if in the same clan age gaps are fine under.... ALOT of conditions so the power and grooming cant be included- including them both being adults when they decide to start a relationship. It'd be harder to fufill as a writer though so I can see drawing the line with it in general as theyd need to interact *very minimally, barely acknowledging each other's existence* when one is too young. Itd need to be a healthy no power holding one as well. I personally am not into older men but a friend my age is- and we're late millenials. (This account is super old but im too lazy and forgetful) Overall with bloodlines, its hard with the clans! People should not be treating these relationships as normal because real life cats do it. The cats share basically the same intelligence, expression and architectural strength as humans (they build dens, use herbs with their paws to heal and mix, etc). Does an almost, accidental oc mother X daughter shin count? 😅 so, I make a spreadsheet when I write an put so much plot detail without writing the actual story that I end up getting tired of the story for a bit. One of these details is a small list of family tries. They’re set up like this: father (if known) + mother (if known) --> kit(s) of one litter; kits of another litter When I search for a name and go through the top, I can easily find the parents, siblings, and kits of that character and special markings mean if they’re dead or not part of the Clan/group ( (name) means they’re dead and [name] means they aren’t a part of the same Clan/group as the rest of the family). I use this when I’m making my ships so I don’t accidentally have cats too closely related paired together (I drawl the line a 4th cousin, but depending on what kind of bond they have growing up, I MIGHT ship 2nd or 3rd cousins if I think it will work or they’re the same s*x since no kits would come of the coupling). So, I wanted Birchfrost to have some mother daughter drama because her mother was part of the cats who drove Birchfrost out when it was revealed that she’s lesbian, calling her the biggest disappointment of her life. Her mom was supposed to realize her mistake and name her son in her second litter after Birchfrost. But Birchfrost sees it as her mother trying to replace her with a “better Birchkit” and only serve to push the further apart. So, I had to find her mother to note how she was supposed to get pregnant and have kits (each book I write spans about 2.5 to 3 moons, so she was going to get pregnant at the start and then give birth more towards the end). I searched Birchfrost’s name and because of where my cursor was when I did, it brought me to where he name was after that spot, which was the Love Interest lists. Ok, yes, I remember Brookpelt was supposed to be her crush that broke her heart by choosing a tom named Tigerfur as a mate and she couldn’t even say anything because it was when she was in the closet. Scroll up and find her name in the family trees. Ok, there she is, all highlighted neatly. Now, let’s see, her mom is… Brookpelt… Oh… oopsie… better fix this and take that off the last two Love Interests lists… I changed a lot about that relationship, but kept the part about how the mother-daughter bond between them broke. Then I remembered why I chose Brookpelt. I BADLY wanted Birchfrost as a main POV protagonist. She didn’t have much personality in my head yet, but I loved her colors. So pale Gray that she’s mistaken for white at a distance, with tabby stripes that are just a slightly darker shade and pale amber eyes- colors like a birch tree on a frosty late fall morning. So I wanted her parents to have pelt colors that would make that genetically possible (at least in the warriors world). There where no Gray tabby toms (surprisingly) on an already established allegiance list and I wanted her and her brother to be the first litter born since the previous book (the events of which ended a year or 2 prior) because that was supposed to be SkyClan’s punishment for their actions in that book. There was (also surprisingly) only 1 gray tabby she-cat, Brookpelt who was named a warrior at the end of the previous book. So I found to with light gray and white fur, Hailwhisker. Then when I was making the Love Interests, I forgot Brookpelt was supposed to be with Hailwhisker , but I wanted her with TigerFur, so the story was the leader thought Tigerfur was too cowardly to father brave, loyal warriors because he didn’t like the aggressive way Whitestar acted. Brookpelt hated ThunderClan (SkyClan’s public enemy #1) became her brother left SkyClan to join ThunderClan (because he disagreed with an unwarranted attack Whitestar led). She Whitestar wanted her to raise a litter of ThunderClan hating kits and chooses one of her youngest, most loyal warrior to father them. Hailwhisker asked to be that tom because he wanted Brookpelt, not out of love but out of wanting to possess her. Brookpelt went along with it to in order prove her loyalty and became depressed both because of PPD and feeling like her life wasn’t her own. Tigerfur helped her through it and she fell in love with him. After her kits where made apprentices, she started secretly seeing Tigerfur, which is why she got pregnant so soon after Birchfrost and her brother were made warriors. Her pregnancy was what led to their relationship being outed, but Whitestar was no longer in power, her son Furzesong/star was, so it was finally safe for her to officially break things off with Hailwhisker and publicly be with Tigerfur. Hailwhisker didn’t like it, but that’s another story. And that was how I averted a major crisis while also letting myself get my own way. My “Shellfeather is Hollybush’s mate but Hollybush is the much younger half sister of Shellfeather’s father” crisis was easier to avoid because I didn’t care so much about who the parents of Robinsong (Shellfeather’s father) were. I just took their shared parent (their mother, Hawkclaw) out of Robinsong’s family tree and erased her single motherly interaction with him and his sisters that I had written so far. And I have a rule of thumb of sorts for the age gaps. If a warrior is old enough to no longer be considered a young/new warrior by the time their intended mate is born, then they’re too old for them. However, I DO bend that rule a little from time to time. Fenfur and Sedgebush kind of walked a very thin line. Sedgebush always found Fenfur to bed very pretty and after interacting with her during her apprentice training, she developed a crush that grew. She didn’t tell Fenfur until after she was a warrior and Fenfur was hesitant because of their age gap. Rowansong (an older former ShadowClan warrior) joined ThunderClan at the same time as Creekwhisker (a younger former WindClan warrior) and Creekwhisker needed help learning to navigate the woods as it was so much different than the moor. Rowansong helped him and the developed feelings for each other, but Rowansong thought it wasn’t right for him to be mates with a cat so much younger than him. For 1-2 years, Creekwhisker pushes his feelings down until her can’t anymore and kind of says “look, it’s not like you’ve been into me since I was a kit. We only properly met when I was a full grown warrior. I like you, you like me, we’re both adults and now, neither of us is a young warrior any more, so I would like to try having a relationship with you if you would be willing to do the same.” Rowansong thingks about it for a while and eventually agrees and they’re happy together. Those are the only OC “taboo relationships” I can think of in my fanfics. Unless you count a gay thruple for any reason…

I personally never found anything wrong with FernIvy. I went and calculated how closely related Ivypool and Fernsong actually are, and it's distant enough that most people would basically never know if it happened in real life between two humans. Although, yea, I can see how third cousins is a bit too close for many people.

God I personally despise DustFern. That ship is so problematic and I'm sorry but Dustpelt is a pedophile in canon. It doesn't matter if Fernpaw was apprenticed late, she was still a child and Dustpelt was still an adult. Likewise, it doesn't matter if the age gap isn't big. DustFern was the equivalent to a 14 year old being groomed by a 21 year old. In that context, it's awful. Which means it's no different in the series. And yes he was grooming her. Just because it wasn't obvious like Thistleclaw doesn't mean it wasn't grooming.

The cats are written with human emotions and human morals. And even if they weren't, y'know who does have human ideals and emotions? The writers. The writers should not be okay writing this crap as normal. And the series is targeted to kids and tweens. I literally saw a toddler picking up Mapleshade's Vengeance at Whitcoulls. So yes, the ship is very problematic and pedophilia should not be written as okay.

I mean it kind of depends on how old Fernpaw was during the Dog chase sequence, which is when the books first mention that Dustpelt has feelings for Fernpaw- I think she got apprentinced fairly soon after it, after the Bloodclan battle iirc. Though the warriors books sounded cool and all to me, it's just these really- not so good kinds of ships. I think cats are really cool, but the ships and my encounters with some parts of the community just ruins it all for me. On the Roblox game when I used to play that game, I'd always get harassed or reported for having a name "not in the suffix" or just simply existing in any other clan’s territory. I've also met very bad people who were in the community too. (Not saying the entire community is horrible. I'm just stating my encounters.)

I'm not defending spottedfire cause it's a pretty bad ship, but this hardly really affects anything. It would be a problem if Firestar was related to Spottedleaf and Sandstorm, not that Sandstorm was related to Spottedleaf. Firestar also technically never was in an official relationship with Spottedleaf or had any kits with her, ect. Only with Sandstorm. It's no different from Berrynose and Honeyfern and him later becoming mates with her sister Poppyfrost after Honeyfern died. (Difference being that Honeyfern was okay and encouraged them to be together).
