I’m a high school golf coach and I “acquire” used clubs for the kids on my team. Grips are no big deal. One of the first things I did was set the vice up in my work shop and learn how to regrip clubs. I have a friend who sends me boxes of Golf Pride Tour Wraps for free but even still, you can buy your grips on sale and it won’t run you more than $5-7 a Club. Bottle of mineral spirits and a roll of grip tape thrown in there, that’s like $50 for a set of irons. Best way to bring used clubs back to life!

Learn to re-grip your clubs if you buy used. I use mid-size grips and have to re-grip anything with standard size grips. I have found clubs that have been extended and clubs that have been shortened. However, it's cheap to get them lengthened or just hack off an extension yourself. You can also buy super cheap, "take off", grips in new condition on eBay. It's really easy to re-grip clubs and worth your time.

@@StackedGolf not sure if you'll see this since its been a month, but as an avid backpack camper - be wary if that bag was stored compressed in that stuff sack she pulled it out of. Also, don't store it in that! That will kill the loft of the filling and severely degrade the temperature effectiveness. Which might be good being in Florida...but if it is a 30 degree bag expect it to be about a 40 degree now if it was compressed a long time! Hope that helps! 😁

I got a Nike 56° wedge off of ebay and the when I received it I realized it had a plastic insert and it was the WORST wedge I have ever hit. Passed it down to someone else for what it was worth "nothing"

My son is 18 and started playing last year. Got him a v-steel 3 wood. An R7 driver and a set of Tzoid irons. All for around $120. Great clubs. I love the 3 wood. I have a dual railed TM 3 wood that was a Dick's exclusive that hits about like the V-steel. Loved the vid and catching up on older videos since I am still a fairly new subscriber.

speaking of special clubs . I used clubs that were my fathers for a long time the were Walter Hagans with persimmon woods from the 60 s . I kept slicing the woods all the time but didn't slice my irons. A friend gave me a Taylor Made driver and I started using this but I kinda liked the hagan 2 wood in particular situations. the friend and I were playing a course in Calloway Gardens and made a foursome with strangers that were very nice. I hit the 2 wood on a hole and of course sliced it but I had learned how much to correct. He noticed that that was my only slice and that it was a different club and I told him about the clubs. He was an experienced and good golfer. After examining my Hagan 2 wood he said it was a custom made club with a longer shaft and a "Hook Face " made for a taller person to correct for a hook. This definitely made since since my father was 6 ft 3 . When I asked him about the clubs he said they were indeed customized and that he had a hook which they helped with but he didn't know exactly how they customized them but that they did help the hook he had !

I've been going to thrift stores and cherry picking ebay iron sets for some 9 years, and have in my garage, 3 massive irons racks, 2 loaded with iron sets, one with nothing but putters and wedges, and enough bags of clubs to fill 2/3 of a 2 car garage besides....addiction??? Last check, I had over 240 putters.... over 240 wedges.... 30 sets of Hogan irons (in great shape)... about 90 other sets including Mizuno, Wilson, Ping, Titleist, Hagen, Cobra.... LOL fairway woods/hybrids/drivers... 300... (I have "some" TP Mills putters and a lot of Ping putters...probably 40 different Bullseye putters). I have had more fun these last 9 years buying, cleaning up, and if necessary, regripping them (2$ a grip, do it in my kitchen in 35 minutes) and then TAKING THEM TO THE COURSE! It was during a "test" of a set of irons (I'd been using AP2 irons), I tried some Mizuno blades.... I have never hit a set of irons as well, and they are blades... mp33 to be exact... I normally shoot low 80's, but 8 months ago, I was 2 under going to 17... and of course, as soon as I realized that, I bogeyed the last two, but STILL shot even par for 18. Yeah, it's addicting :)

The trick with irons, just Reggio them yourself! Just need a razor knife, grip tape, solvent, and obviously new grips. It's cheap and easy! Just time consuming.

I already have 'used club syndrome,' I"m afraid. I have a closet full of them (including 41 putters!). I've long given up on getting any better at golf, so now it's for amusement. I'll play a set of Ping original Eye irons (2i-sw) one day. Maybe some Callaway Steelhead x12s the next, and so on. Rarely the same clubs on consecutive rounds. It's fun, and I can always blame my bad rounds on the constant switching. And, yes, there'a a V-Steel in that closet, too.

I went to Cool Clubs Scottsdale for a driver fit about 6 years ago. They recommended I play a Graphite Design BB-6S stiff shaft. New one costs $400. I couldn’t afford it so I found one on EBay used for half the price. A few years ago I went back to Cool Clubs to get fit for fairway woods. They checked the specs on my current bag and told me I’m in the wrong driver shaft because it had been tipped making it play like an X flex. Now I’m way more careful shopping for used equipment.

If the clubs were used once a week, fine. But it's the driving range where you beat your clubs to death. When really a range is to groove your timing and form. You can do that with an old 8 iron , 7 wood and driver. In fact maybe most golf injuries may be from the range. How many full blast swings do you make a round ? 25 ? - 30?

The putter's you're referring to as TP Mills putter's are just cheap Spalding's. They were designed by Truet P. Mills, but he had nothing to do with the sale or production of the putter's. TP did make hand made putter's in his home shop in Tuscaloosa Alabama. His son David continues to make putter's today under the TP Mills name as his father passed away a few years ago.

I live in a golf capitol and have the fortune of belonging to a golf club where there are lots of (used) clubs to try and adopt if they are suitable. Used clubs save hundreds in fitting fees and at least as much to purchase. Pitching wedges are the next step. Aren't Srixons what Matsuyama played in the Masters?

Try Karma grips from Amazon. You can get them for about $1 per grip and they are good! Perfect for clubs you don’t want to invest too much money into. That said, I like them so much I have them on my gamers.

I have a question, Have you ever purchased any used golf clubs and found them to be counterfeit? Myself not really knowing what to look for, How do you spot a counterfeit club?

You illustrated why lie angle is one of the most important golf club specifications there is. A club that fits in every way but lie angle will hit the ball sideways as you discuss. A club with the correct lie angle will usually go pretty straight even on less than perfect strikes. In general, the shorter the clubs, the more upright and the longer the more flat the lies should be (compared what is standard FOR YOU). If you get fitted for lie angle don't let them check only one club. Have them check one of the longest and one of the shortest irons and go from there. Standard loft gradation in a set assumes your hands are in the same spot with every club. Not everybody swings that way. Most people stand with their hands farther from the ground with the longer irons which makes the differences in lie angle between clubs less than the standard gradation.

If you play forged clubs you should get the lie angles checked at least once a year. They will change, especially the short irons/wedges, if your hitting down on firm fairways. Easy well to tell is by your divots, nice bacon strips and their perfect. Too deep towards the toe, too flat. Ball goes right. Too deep towards the heel, too upright. Ball goes left.

Teach yourself to regrip clubs. It's not hard to do and it's a lot of fun. Grip kits last almost forever. I still have a roll of the tape I bought 7 years ago and it still is good. Just regriped a 3 hybrid. You can also lengthen or shorten clubs too. Not rocket science either.

I've old clubs with new grips that i use at the range. The range is mostly for tempo. I save my new clubs for the course. I may use my thin, titanium faced driver 6 times a round . I also own one pocket gun. Why do folks need a safe of every gun made. A nam sergeant gave me a rifle and i gave it back a year later. One trigger, one finger.

Winn grips only go bad from lack of use. Florida humidity doesnt help but otherwise they are the best grip out there.
