That end monologue by the ex-bf was wild. It was so out of left field! @hxpewxrld2 жыл бұрын
I saw a comment awhile back from someone who worked in the industry who said that most writers believe highschool is more relatable to a wider audience as almost everyone has been to, will go to, or is in highschool but not everyone goes to college. I still think it would be better to have more settings in college but it's an explanation for sure. Plus in this case this movie was an ode to the old school teen movies so college wouldn't make much sense here.
@Breyerlover4ever232 жыл бұрын
@@hxpewxrld makes sense, but if that's their reasoning then they should cast younger actors. I get it, they want these celebrities to bring in cash but there are so many actors who are both famous AND appear to be highschool age. For example, you could've gotten Olivia Rodrigo and it would've been so much more believable for her to play the lead than someone in their late twenties. What would have really pushed it over the edge is if they made the conclusion much darker...I kept expecting some blood to be spilled, or if Max ended up in an intensive care unit and unable to speak. I think the main problem with Max is that his role is just patriarchy personified. He serves as a source of conflict that highlights all the hurdles Drea has to overcome because she's not a rich, white man. But those are systemic issues within the culture of the school and society at large, and while Max represents them, it's harder to write a clear cut motivation for why he wants to destroy Drea instead of just casting her aside.

If he was in the video I can see how he could try to spin it, but it literally made zero sense. All of them are portrayed as being super woke and calling out other problematic behaviour (or more just pointing it out kind of for comedic purposes? Which just came off as cringe) but this was a serious topic that was made to feel light hearted and like whatevs. I didn’t expect a whole deep dive into it due to the comedic tone of the film. But Eleanor being labeled a predator at 13 ruined her whole life and was like the main reason she wanted revenge. But Drea’s entire solo shmex tape was leaked and nobody seems to care or asks if she’s ok?? IT MADE NO SENSE.

I wholeheartedly agree with your take. I actually had SUCH a fun time watching Do Revenge, and the production (like you said) almost makes me forget the small but substantial gripes I have with the film… almost. There’s nothing inherently wrong or bad about the film-besides the totally unbelievable casting, but that’s most teen dramas these days. I just think that some aspects of the writing were lazy. Eleanor’s two-timing revenge plot was absolute genius, but other than her and Drea, a lot of the side characters felt one-note and unnecessary. I wish Drea’s bestie had more of a role in the film other than “pretend bestie who turns on you and then comes crawling back when you’ve hit rock bottom.” I wish we got to spend more time with Max’s sister. The other two girls and the other guy in the inner circle had no purpose to exist other than to fill a numerical quota. Not all characters can be fleshed out when your story has a lot going on, but then why not just cut characters out of the story unless they have an affect on it? Or combine different characters into one so they have a larger and more complex presence and motivation? Ultimately the people writing, producing, and casting these teen shows and movies have a deep misunderstanding of how teenagers actually behave and talk and dress and interact with each other and the world.
@crisislockwood38862 жыл бұрын
honestly, as a teen, the only thing i feel that it didn’t exactly get was the way we dress, and that’s mainly because we’re too broke. when they were talking, i could honestly picture me or my friends saying something like that

Please consider doing a review of _Labor Pains_ (2009) which is Lindsay Lohan's most overlooked romcom. It also includes Tracee Elis Ross, Luke Kirby, Chris Parnell, Bridgit Mendler in it who were all lesser-known actors at the time. Lindsay's comeback film _Falling for Christmas_ (2022) comes out next month on Netflix. Her last film role was in _Among the Shadows_ (2019) which was shot in November 2015, and she was in a short film _Till Human Voices Wake Us_ in 2015. She was in Season-2 of _Sick Note_ in early 2018 which stars Rupert Grint and Nick Frost. _Falling for Christmas_ was filmed between November-December 2021. So it's been almost 4 years since she last acted, exactly 6 years since she last acted in a movie, and over 13 years since the release of her last romcom in 2009.

I’ll be honest I did get rlly annoyed with how drea’s new partner (blue haired guy) called out drea’s actions when she shared around her exe’s messages with the other girls, and how it could’ve harmed the girls, only for it to be forgotten. Like they broke up over it, and there was no real character development shown on her behalf that she’d learned from that, and that she’s just as bad as her ex in that regard I cringed a few times at some of the things they said, and I had to remind myself that it could be considered funny because it’s sort of a modern way of how the main heather speaks in the movie heathers, but I feel like just the fact that I had to remind myself that was icky in of itself, and the funny thing about some of heather’s sayings (e.g “fuck me gently with a chainsaw”) was that it was original writing for the movie and so out of left field that it was funny I think it definitely did have some memorable parts, and the actress for drea’s (I can’t remember her name😭) comedic timing is great. I’m probably gonna be quoting “I’m shocked” moment for months lol

You should review the woman in the house across the street from the girl in the window. It’s a weird satire TV show based on the girl across the lake. I recently watched it and it’s one of my favorite shows. I’d love to see what you have to say on it

i liked this movie while i was watching it, but the longer i thought about it afterwards, the more i actuqlly hated it. such an unhinged plot about completely uncanny feeling people. not a single character here felt like a real personl

Lastly I agree 1000% that reasoning for Max doing everything, was SOOO WEAK.

They should have just casted "Drea" to be a dark skin black girl bc they way her dialog was set up makes no sense. Constantly referring herself as a "poc" (Latinos have never called themselves that up until hearing blck ppl do it just recently 🙄) and acting like she's "so poor" even though she's being dressed up in Versace outfits 😂
@whyisthisdifferentnow Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I was so sick of her pulling the POC card. Especially since some (a lot) of Latinos use their White looking features to their advantage. Something dark skinned people, especially Black women, can’t do.

I really enjoyed this movie, but the writing was bad I thought… the twist was SUPER cool, but like you said, the substance just isn’t there. Example: the girl Eleanor is interested in is “mad” because El is mad at Drea and doesn’t believe Max leaked the video. “You know he did” she says, as his sister. EXCUSE ME if you know that, fucking turn him in to the police?! It was such a cliche like ‘they have to fight before everything is okay again’. The reason to fight was bad, and the fighting didn’t even have a payoff… There were multiple examples like this in the movie. Questions why people acted the way the acted. Mean girls does this better imo. Still a fun movie tho!

You’ve obviously never seen jawbreakers. Call many Tinga classic chefs kiss 😘or strangers on a train (they even referenced it in the movie, she’s reading the book)
@Sophie_Pea2 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen jawbreakers and there were still parts of this I didn’t enjoy lol. If you wanna do an homage/maybe satire that’s fine, but do a good job of it. Even in jawbreaker they didn’t end up being friends in the end because of all of the stuff that happened. Drea literally got ran over by a car and they still ended up as besties. It didn’t make sense. Also drea just randomly bullying Eleanor about her nose at the party and then them just forgetting about it a second later, it just seemed off. It definitely had its good parts, but I wouldn’t go as far as to say it’s comparable to jawbreaker

I don't really care about the age but I agree it should've been a college setting not high school. I just think the film was so bad and none of the characters were interesting and the dialogue was shitty. I'm still wondering how tf this movie got made. And I hate how the director of the film tries to act like omg she's so woke for having a latina lead when the casting of the film has the exact amount of diversity of any 90s movie and still the only 2 black characters get sidelined with no real characteristics or effect on the plot. Its a joke. Could've been a great movie and I know its only Netflix but even by Netflix standards its pretty bad. The strongest part of the film was the visuals, even the music wasn't great. Apart from the Olivia Rodrigo opening titles...
