I saw just enough to know that it was some really bad shit going on with those guys. REALLY BAD SHIT. Fraternities are interested in only one thing -- your money. My girlfriend had been telling me she didn't feel safe around some of them, so she wholeheartedly supported my decision to quit. There were maybe about five guys in it who were actually decent people, and they were always making excuses for the others. The only reason I know anything about it is one of my roommates was dating one of the guys on the frat counsel. After talking it over, he was banned for 2 weeks, TWO WEEKS from frat activities including the joint frat/soririty parties. I went to some of those parties, I saw that bastard and had no idea what his reputation was and I would have remained completely in the dark about him. Schools do a LOT to cover this kinda thing up and it's really scary tbh. By the way, he still graduated on time. Idk what happened to two of the girls, but I know that one of them dropped out.

As a fraternity man it is important to remember that stereotypes do not represent the group as a whole. My fraternity focuses on academics (3.8 GPA avg at one of the most prestigious universities in the country), philanthropy (we raised 30k this year and rebuilt a playground for a school who had theirs burned down by vandals), and most importantly social awareness. Our fraternity is known as a safe haven on campus for drunk boys and girls who need a break. Every brother will readily walk someone home at any point. There are benefits and detriments to everything, fraternities are no exception. Yes, fraternities can cause a lot of harm, but they can also do a lot of good by banding together people who are working towards something great.

guarantee people will fail to see the joke and get offended, because people have sensitive bollocks having said that, the video was a bit stereotypical, sure they're not all like that. 1 bad apple spoils the bunch routine

Harry Kelly Well to be fair, it appears that at least have of the guys in this "frat" in the video are generally decent people. And it really appears that Squish and the ringleader (forget his fake name) are the worst offenders that most everyone else was completely disgusted with.
@harrykelly46659 жыл бұрын
I agree, I actually enjoyed the skit and was just talking in general sense rather than of the skit itself. My comment was aimed at the people in the comment section that are inevitably going to start crying over a joke that really isn't something to get fired up over. Like i said, i thought it was pretty funny, made me laugh out loud a couple of times actually!

Campus: "We'll be the judge and jury for this r*pe accusation" Frat kid's parents: "Sounds good. Just so you know, if our son or his friends are found guilty or punished in any way, we'll completely cut off the funding you need to survive." Campus: "I mean... it was kind of her fault when you really think about it... We find the victim guilty and everyone else innocent." This literally still happens today. What the actual f*ck is going on with this country?

The problem with frats is that they exist. They serve no purpose, other than social segregation. Creates the feeling and thought processes of local loyalty and remote distrust in each other.
@ExecratedPlaysGaming9 жыл бұрын
I agree. Sororities need to be banned.
@kobeballer9 жыл бұрын
Neceros Not sure how they "create the feeling of remote distrust" but they do serve other purposes. They are a good way to help people sow connections and they also perform lots of charitable and community work. The bad ones are mostly major division I chapters. I went to a small division III school and the frat was incredibly mild with regards to partying and "hazing" (for the girls I heard it consisted of singing a song in front of their sisters) and they had a required 3.0 or above gpa.

People choose to join Greek Life because they see how much more successful they can be with it. Due to the large Alumni base one can easily find a job plus with all the community service and philanthropy we do, it looks great on resumes. Yet ignorant people only listen what the media tells them and sees what a few bad chapters are like.
@leotamer59 жыл бұрын
Neceros If a frat does require cult-like following, that is bad. But the mere idea of basically a club in college where you can dorm at is not inherently bad as you apply.
@CynicalScientist2618 жыл бұрын
I'm English and Fraternities seem like an awful idea. What good comes from them?
@iateyursandwiches7 жыл бұрын
The idea is companionship and fellowship, connections, and community service. Please don't believe everything you hear about frats and sororities. There are plenty of honors and service oriented frats. There are bad ones but it's really not all of them. Yes they have parties but it's not really all they do.
@drummerboi3574 жыл бұрын

Frats: where some new guys let a close-knit group of guys treat them like crap for awhile so they "earn" friendship of said group, gaining drinking buddies, partners in doing stupid shit (particularly drunken parties), and the opportunity to later treat other new guys like crap. All while hold needlessly secret meetings. I never saw the appeal.
