I think people in Gville don’t go to the beach as much because the springs are right there!
@LivinginGainesvilleFlorida Жыл бұрын
That's true, having the springs nearby is very convenient. Thanks for watching!

You forgot to mention the army of homeless panhandlers on every intersection in Gainesville!

The funny thing you’ll hear is “ your two hours from everything” yes true 🤣 but you ain’t gonna be doing a 4 hour road trip for a day trip especially with kids. It’s just isolated in the middle of a flat swamp.
@LivinginGainesvilleFlorida Жыл бұрын
Yea, pros and cons to day trips. We can do Busch Gardens in a day or some shopping in Orlando but when you add in packing up tents and all the stuff that goes along with a beach trip it can be a lot for 1 day. Thanks for watching!

100% I was there for eight years. This place is terrible. I’m so glad I got out.

Looks like near UF , up 441 or near I-75 is the best Largest amount of crime is out near the airport, I am guessing that is where most of the homeless camps are located Thanks for telling us about this crime stats website I worked at the airport 10 years and lived in a hotel in Waldo and went home to Tampa on the weekends. Didn't really explore Gainesville much but I think it's a good college town

Donavan Do you and your family ever go to the Gator games. If so, do you have any insider tips on these huge events?
@LivinginGainesvilleFlorida Жыл бұрын
We usually go to a few football games per year. Most of the time my wife doesn't go so if we are not tailgating she just drops us off right before the game and picks us up mid 4th quarter to avoid the traffic. We like going to some of the smaller sports because there are less people and they are easier to navigate. I did this video a while back, it may help - kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2iodIyEm5mMptE

I would proudly like to announce that I will be moving from the terrible city of Gainesville, Florida on August 17, 2024, and never, ever returning. This has been the worst, most stagnant, two years of my life. What a waste. I can never get that time back, but I can move forward.

The never really going to the beach thing is also true after a while for a lot of people near the coast too.

Yea, I'm sure we take it for granted but we just don't go that often.

I think traffick should of been #1. Ridiculous inflation is expected in every industry and every city and town in the country. Gville is misleading because of the size
@LivinginGainesvilleFlorida Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Robert! Yea, traffic is up there but I didn't think to put everything in order or priority.
@AuspiciousTarot8 ай бұрын
Yup. The traffic is worse than South Florida. People here sit at green lights and go 20 miles per hour in a 45.

As someone who lived in and then left Gainesville, I'd say that the wildlife was one of the absolute best things about living there. Granted, I'm a northern, so many of the critters are quite exotic and beautiful. Also, we regularly would sneak off to a beach whenever we had the chance. Sure, it would be nice to be closer, but access to the beach without living in a touristy area was clearly a plus. For me, the dismal walkability of Gainesville is one things that made it quite unbearable. We lived in the Duckpond for our last couple years, and that was better than living in Suburban Heights, but still, the car-oriented design of the city and general disdain for any sort of urbanism made it clear that Gainesville would not be a place I could stay very long. It's funny, I currently live in a very densely populated neighborhood near Center City Philadelphia, and I hear less traffic noise than I did living in the Duckpond. I have some fond memories of the place, and I still think it's better than almost every other place in Florida, but I definitely don't miss it.

All of the US except some major cities are car centric. Can't really dock Gainesville for that. Plus, whole town has a diameter of only six miles which makes it very walkable. Essentially only 3 miles from most things from most places.
