I find it funny how you list conservative as a con. I grew up in NY, lived in LA after high school and settled in Arizona. NY is a welfare pit, LA is an over rated toilet. Arizona was the only conservative place of the three. It was clean, with low taxes and little crime. It took me about 30 seconds to switch to a conservative after seeing how much better they ran things. Now droves of California liberals are moving here to escape California’s failed policies (that they voted for) while continuing to praise their liberal beliefs. Then they still vote Democrat which is causing conservative states like Arizona to start failing. All over the country liberals are fleeing Washington, California, New York, etc. and running to conservative states like Idaho, Tennessee etc. only to complain about the very people who made their state successful. If liberalism is so awesome I suggest remaining or relocating to only liberal places. They have such nice locations too like Detroit, Chicago, or your former town of Baltimore known for it’s low crime rates... oh wait.

For readers who are interested in moving to the Knoxville area: Housing costs have risen sharply over the last couple of years just like they have everywhere else, but housing is still cheaper here than in most places in the north or western US. Also, there are several outlying cities around Knoxville that have full services. A big plus is the two interstates that go in all four directions, so if you live outside of the city but you have to drive in to work, it's relatively easy.
@BenBarredo2 жыл бұрын
Well said, thank you. I have to explain that to someone new everyday. I still get calls from people thinking they can start a small homestead on a $150,000 budget. I'm like, add another $100,000 and you might (MIGHT) have a chance. Its crazy how fast it has grown. Still, property taxes are next to nothing, gas is still cheap compared to most places, and our average cost per house is still cheaper than most places.

About the east Tennessee weather: I spent my first 29 years around Montgomery, Alabama. Down there, the saying is, there are only two types of weather: hot and wet or cold and wet. The heat and humidity start up before Easter, and it doesn't really cool down until around Thanksgiving. By contrast, east Tennessee has four distinct seasons. It doesn't really start getting hot until mid-May, and it begins cooling off in late September. Even with that, there aren't many unbearably hot days, meaning over 90 degrees with oppressive humidity. The two mountain ranges around the Tennessee River valley protect Knoxville from the worst snowfalls, although we do get big snows every few years where it's bad enough to shut down the schools for up to a week. The springtime and autumn are beautiful. The fall foliage rivals that of New England, and the fall season that just ended was one of our prettiest and longest-lasting ever. Today, December 26, it was nearly 70 degrees and I worked outside a little. We get odd warmups like that in the winter sometimes. It's welcome, because it makes for a shorter winter. Things start blooming again around mid-March.

Here you can get a nice little house with a bit of land for $250 000 but the prices are rising because of the high demand. Im very familiar with both cities and surrounding areas and id take Knoxville any day of the week. Nashville is a pain in the ass, traffic is bad, and is one of the most spread out cities in the US. Say you go shopping in Nash and you have a couple diff destinations you wanna go to, it might be a 30 drive between them. In knoxville you can find all the same stuff pretty much and the majority of every kind of shopping or whatever you would want to go to is situated on kingston pike and within a short drive of each other. Gallatin is a pretty nice lil place but the bad traffic of nashville affects its metro area more and more every day. Knoxville is a much easier to navigate city and its easy to stay out of the bad parts. And in knoxville, it wont take you an hour to get in or out of the city for work during rush hour. And there is nothing that notable that ive found in Nash that cant be found in knoxville, and knoxville is better for alot of things ive noticed. Also, Nashville is one of the most popular places right now in the US to move to so its turning into one of those places where everyone you meet is from somewhere else and theres alot of gimmicky, touristry shit. If you wanna live in a club/bar scene, nashville might be for you but if your older and want less stress, plenty of things to do, including nature, less driving, and all the ammenities of a bigger city, Knoxville is the place for you. Also dont listen to what you hear about crime, Knoxville is safer than Nashville, period. Especially these days. You could live for years in knoxville and never lay eyes on a bad area if you didnt want to. The only real attraction in knoxville that you may have to start goimg towards a bad neighborhood to get to is the Zoo, and its still not bad you dont have to drive that far down, but you will notice the difference. From downtown to anywherw west, your golden. Which will be where anything youd possibly be interested in will be anyway. Safe travels

ALL cities are liberal sided. Tennessee as a whole is almost ALL conservative. So it's best to move to a city in a full on conservative state than say LA in California. You can't have both really. Sadly.

My wife and I are looking to move to the Knoxville area from Pennsylvania. This was really helpful as far as the city area, just curious as to what the job market is like for tradesmen there?
@nathangrant67354 жыл бұрын
As one who is looking to relocate to this area and has recently inquired about the piping trades locally, I was told that there are a number of projects still up and going. However, many projects have not panned out as fully as expected and quite a few folks are out of work. Many projects have been cancelled because of this virus, but overall it's been a tougher market for folks down that way in recent years. That said, usually there is a bounce back for the trades following the major economic downturns like what we saw in 2008-2009. I can't really say what the right decision is for you and your family. It's a college town with a major research facility nearby, so if you can find something to get you by until the winds pick up again, you might find it meets your needs. Kinda depends on your trade and the reason you're trying to move there too. If you're going no matter what, then it kinda is what it is...but overall other parts of the country are in a better position, excluding the temporary public health issues. Just my two cents. Best of luck!
@kennethv52504 жыл бұрын
depends on your trade. plumbers, carpenters, electricians and similar trades can pretty much print money. i live in a more rural area and the trades i mentioned are so booked up that it takes a lifetime to get work done. cities will still have a need for the basic trades and getting hired shouldnt be much of a problem. having said all that, the Rona can cause issues for getting jobs, best to call around and ask about your skill area and how jobs are going right now.

The riots, looting, lawlessness, homelessness, insanity on the roads, destruction of our beautiful state and city-I would be very happy to "conserve" civil society as much as we can.
