That said, Rome was a military and engineering colossus; in terms of culture, at best it largely merely stole from and aped Greece, it produced next to nothing in terms of original art forms. The Renaissance looked chiefly to classical Greece for inspiration for a reason.

I am 100% certain that the anime "influence" is only there because anime is mainstream popular now. Many soulless western corporations have tried to latch onto anime's popularity without understanding that anime is defined by more than an art style and a collection of tropes. That's why there is so many westernized trash "anime" nowadays. Things like the Rick and Morty "anime", the Castlevania "anime", and the upcoming LotR "anime". When it's written by westerners and produced under the ridiculous constraints of western entertainment companies, it's not really anime even if it's animated by a Japanese studio. Plenty of American 70s and 80s cartoons were animated in Japan. Those were about as much anime as these modern western "anime".

Because they are massive, they hold onto good IPs, they got a lot of resources, and IF THEY JUST got the right leadership, they could make really great stuff. But everything within Sony is going upside down. Neil Druckmann aside, Sont is pushing hard on DEI (as per their 2024 corporate report) and they're still in business with Sweet Baby inc... This is why I wish these companies would wake the hell up and stop while they're still standing. Of all the things in the trailer, I think its actually the last scene with the robot that gives the biggest red flags. The hyper realistic style they went with just doesnt work for the kind of action the seem to be selling. The MC moves so slow and her movement lacks the stretchiness to sell the impact of her swing. Just compare her with the flow of the anime characters in the same trailer and it becomes a lot more obvious. More than the design in the game, its the art style that doesnt work for what theyre doing.

If they were really inspired by popular anime then why not have the protagonist look cool like one, hell even a side character in an anime looks better. There isn’t a world where they went through more than a dozen concept art designs until deliberately making one so unappealing, the designer probably like “yeah we can make her super cool and badass, she doesn’t need to be sexy” and then the designs shot down by Druckman so the designer basically thought “ok, so she can’t have a cool design that looks practical like Isaac Clarke’s engineering suit, or Samos’ suit, and even though we’re anime inspired she can’t have something overly designed like with frilly hair because that’s too feminine? So basically create something unappealing that seems contradictory like a Jedi wearing normal modern day clothing.”

Back in the 80s anime boom, if an artist at an animation studio showed this character design to his bosses then he would have been fired. Iconic sci-fi anime has characters like the Knight Sabers from Bubblegum Crisis, Kei and Yuri from Dirty Pair, Motoko Kusanagi from GitS. Even modern sci-fi anime has interesting character designs.

I miss that we used to be so good at creating appealing games. Did they forget we like ESCAPISM? Have they forgotten tons of game genres exist? Did they forget different art styles exist? I swear the game industry is so fixated on realism, ray tracing & 4k resolution. More actively recently yes, but ever since the Tomb Raider reboot it's been apparent, and I see that Lara as a middle ground between the Jessica Rabbit exaggeration she started as and the Netflix wooden board she ended up as. Let’s not forget that for all their pushing to have minorities as MCs in games, there is little to no innovation in the cultures within these games. It’s still typical contemporary, future or medieval stuff that are so boring these days. Look at the Orishas, the gods of the Yorubans who have some awesome esoteric traits compared to other known ancient pantheons. ZERO use in modern gaming, except for 1 character in Genshin Impact (and that may or may not be a coincidence). Black people are more than just their face, they have a culture (gods, ideas, food, past times, social traits). Frankly I don't want any Hollywood actors in my games (mainly their faces, but also their voice acting), it's so distracting and immersion breaking to see their highly recognizable faces plastered all over game characters, because not only are you constantly reminded these are based on real people but also because of the uncanny valley which makes the experience far worse, which is not something that happens in live TV shows and movies. My worry is that Hollywood actors might be insisting on their faces being slapped on these characters before they agree to voice them, that would be even worse, I'd rather have unique original characters designed by artists and not tied to any real life celebrity, whom we could wake up the next day to find them embroiled in some shameful scandal, and now everytime I look at that characrer I'm reminded of them, fuck that.

She would have looked better styled like the actual person. She sounds crazy, but her skin is smooth, green eye shadow and blonde hair demonstrate a very specific sense of style and tells you more about her character. The actress has more style sense than the character designers.

The protagonist is the last problem of this trailer. It was a tiresome mess, an uninspired sequence of images, dialogues and stuff. Awful characters with zero gameplay. Does not even seem a videogame.

You can say that you dont like the jared leto joker Design or the Paterson bruce wayne Look and Nobody would accuse you of anything, despite the fact that both of them are actors. If you say the same about abby or this Woman you are suddenly all kinds of things. They can't fathom that you,maybe just maybe, just dont like the design. It's a tactic to discredit others and absolutely nothing more, they themselves dont belive that you are actually all these things they accuse you off but it worked in the past to defend the Ideology , so they just keep doing what they are used to.

This is the video we needed. No hand holding. Just hitting with straight facts. Were tired of the forced pandering and we don't care to entertain *YOU* with praise for your game. You all are supposed to be entertaining us. Showing different perspectives and offering new ways to explore real/metaphysical concepts that we can play through and decide *FOR OURSELVES* what we want to get out of the game. Instead now its, "I have moral high ground and you are all beneath me and my gaudy, pretentious, first world ideals." We're tired of it. No one is impressed. We're just losing the last bastion we could call a safe haven of escapism which is the video game platform and we will not be bullied in to caring for garbage.

Imagine if the game will be actually awesome but they'll lose millions because they decided to go with this character design. Character design is important. Personality is important. First impressions are very important! The first impressions for me is... not so good. Main character looks so bland. Well, we'll see. But mark my words, the game won't succeed. It'll be better than Concord by far. But they make sure it won't be as successful as it could be. They deserve it.

What really gets me about the buzz cut, is that if the leaks are right, and the 5 Aces pan supports it, she shaved her head as a disguise because the 5 Aces were notorious in some fashion. Except as we can see in the 5 Aces photo her hair was already incredibly short and she has very distinctive tattoos and continues to wear the same jacket. That means the character is not only smug and unlikable as revealed by her interactions with rule 63 Snake Plisskin, she's also a complete idiot. And if the leaks are not true, because her hair was already shown to be so short we didn't need a shot of her buzzing her head and giving a satisfied smile to her reflection like it was purely to virtue signal.
