@panboi7490 is the problem the people buying or the people selling it not making enough? If lego would just do what they know is right then it wouldn't be a problem. They KNOW WAYYY more people want this wolfpack minifig than someone in a hamster suit. But they made equal amounts of them. If lego makes enough of the sought after minifig then it doesn't matter if someone buys 30 of them. They need to come up with a better way to sell them.
@danielmcbride64135 күн бұрын
My problem isnt with the CMF line; my problem is the absence of alternative options. CMF is not as bad as gambling, but it certainly isn’t designed to be an army builder. Lego creates 12 minifigures that they think are really cool; contrary to popular belief, they don’t create the train kid or the Olympian to upset castle fans. They create a cast of characters in which most kids can buy a box, be surprised by what’s inside, and have a cool new figure for their collection that not all of their friends will have seen before. They can add them to their Lego town or build something to go with them; I used to do this as a kid. AFOLs, myself included, have taken to using CMF as a means to army build cool characters, but if you look at the characters they include, they are meant to be unique one-offs. Frightening knight was meant to be a mercenary, but if you’d bought Lego Kingdoms sets at the time, he was a great compliment to your army. Black Falcons were in two sets and on PAB online before the falconer was released, and look at that hair piece! The intent is that you have one CMF falconer to go with your army of knights. The black Raven knight is awesome; I have five, but he is explicitly called a tournament knight. He’s not one of many knights in an army; he’s landed or unlanded gentry fighting in a tournament, which is why he has such bright colors. And at the time, pre the pseudo revival of castle in 2021, Lego couldn’t have predicted his popularity five years later. The orc is awesome, but even as a GM for TTRPG, unless I’m trying to kill my party, I don’t need an ARMY of orcs. I need a few orcs and many more goblins. Now, to the beastmaster: yes, he is cooler than the Wolfpack character from the medieval town square, but he is not the only way to army build Wolfpack. He is specifically a beastmaster, maybe the leader of the faction. The idea is that a kid would be STOKED to pull him at random and an adult could get one or a few and put them in their larger Wolfpack faction. The fact that people are scalping them is a difficult issue to solve when you can’t stop people from buying a certain quantity in retail stores. I think the solution is not to remove exclusivity from the CMF line though. Let kids still get cool stuff from the cmf line, and adults too, but as a compliment to a greater army. I believe the solution is for Lego to introduce a proper castle theme with battle packs. If they sold battle packs and other sets for various factions with other cool characters, scalpers would have to choose which to purchase. But as it currently stands, child, scalper, and Castle AFOL alike have one option to get castle figures outside of PAB online, customs, or massive Icons sets: CMF. And so the supply is low and the demand is high.

@mikes9753 Not really; I build armies with the minifigures that came in LEGO sets. @wesandell4 күн бұрын
@@dylanwhite3383 when it comes to "knock offs" there is a range of quality. If the bricks are sourced from manufacturers like Gobricks, then they are pretty much 1-1 identical with Lego. They have minimal mold markings, they have that "softer" feel that real Lego has and the clutch is excellent. Other than the lack of the Lego logo on the stud, they are almost indistinguishable. But, Gobricks are more expensive (though not as expensive as Lego). Then, there is the medium grade which will often have more pronounced mold marks. The quality is...decent, I'd say 80-90% Lego quality. The clutch is usually okay, but sometimes it's off (particularly technic has issues of either too tight or too loose). Colors also are sometimes not as consistent with this grade. Then you have the lower grade which you find at dollar stores in the US. These are the crap quality bricks that give alternative bricks a bad name. They break easy, are very hard plastic, the clutch is terrible, etc., etc. The irony is that the better quality brands are often cheaper or at least the same price as the dollar store brands if you source the better quality ones straight from China through online vendors. When it comes to figures, the same is true. There are pretty high quality ones that are...90-95% of Lego. Some of these are amazing, though face prints can sometimes be a problem. Then you have a majority of the off brand/knock off figures which are decent quality, probably 70-80% Lego quality. The joints/clutch of heads/legs sometimes have issues of being too loose, face prints aren't often good. Then, you have the lower end brands, which have the same issues, but more often. Newer knock off figs are usually much better quality than older ones (alt figs have improved significantly in the last 10 years), but sometimes newer figs have issues too.

This issue can be fixed very easily. Lego has to stop promoting gambling to children as a sales tactic, it needs to start selling the figures with the picture on the box. If there is the picture on the box then they know for sure which are the figures selling and they can make more and so increase supply and this issue is solved. It is the gambling sales tactic that is causing this problem, with normal Lego products if they sell well they make more but if there is no sales info on which are selling because of the lack of a picture on the box then they cannot make more.

I disagree that lego would make less money, as shown by the DnD CMF line. Because everything was good (except the lady of pain, still can't figure out what to do with more than a couple of them) a lot of people just like myself bought 2-5 sealed boxes to get as many of all the minifigs as possible. Now imagine Lego would sell the CMF packs as a known quantity. They would just produce as needed (and as the orders go for the castle CMF) and make extra money. The other CMFs will sell anyway, but slower. You can't use too many cat boys or astronomer kids, but there are people like me who might go for 100 of the castle CMF if it wasn't such a pain in the A to find them. As things stand now, only the scalpers are getting a benefit, while lego is annoying everyone else to be honest. I am having quite the issue with the Wolfpack warrior, and I think I might just skip it (will get a box, not bother getting more than the 3 in there and be done with it). That's money lego isn't getting from me, a customer that usually adds to his purchases to get the GWP of the month when getting these and while they are getting money from scalpers, Scalpers are disloyal beasts. They won't buy CMF series 28 if there is no extra lucrative CMF in it. a satisfied fan would.

I don't agree the tournament knight is in the same category with the rest of these. The reason its price is high is mainly due to the color scheme. if you look back at Lego Castle from the 80s to now, we always get red or blue figures being mainly a dragon or lion faction. This figure was completely unique having yellow/black and a bird that while similar to Black Falcons, a different pose and very cool looking among those colors. Also, its older/retired which is more 'justified' in its inflated price. The aftermarket has recently seen with the wolfpack and dnd paladin, where these figures that should only cost $5, are immediately going for 3x, which didn't used to be the case. I understand as figures become older and more rare, the price is likely to rise, but to see the starting point so high for something readily available is insane. But its us castle fans that are to blame as we encourage scalpers by paying them. Look at Bricklink's purchase history and you can see people buying 50-100 of them at $20 a piece. This isn't going to get better until that behaviour stops. The reason the frightening knight is not as popular is because the bear does not look that great. For anyone who had 2010 Castle with the green dragons, this torso/legs were perfect, but it was not very popular at the time of release. The only thing keeping its price high currently are those shoulder pauldrons in that titanium metallic color since they are exclusive to this figure. Next, the fright knight, not popular at all and could be had on bricklink for same as msrp at the time of release. I think what makes figures popular is their overall appearance and this figure was lacking, likely due to the choice of helmet and the head. This figure had truly amazing print detail on the torso/legs and is very usable as a generic knight that can be used in any Lego castle faction. I think its price spiked because of the Series 25 newer bat knight.

The CMF series does have a problem for any Johnny-come-lately like myself. Not that I'm new to Lego Castle. But, I went through a phase where I couldn't justify keeping up with the latest trend in certain Lego themes. Whether it was due to personal income, or space limitations, I missed out on a lot of things between 2010 and 2020. And, I don't want to exactly army build factions. I probably don't need more than 6 to 10 figures of a uniform at most. What I'm interested in is variety for roleplaying adventures, like in DnD or pathfinder. The customization possible with Lego Minifigs and their being readily painted makes them a great source for PCs and NPC enemies alike. So, I want a variety in just enough quantity. The Orks, or earlier fantasy trolls, combined with the goblin micro-figure statuettes from Heroica, or the fantasy skeleton army, or maybe something outside like the Nexo Knight enemies are all out of print and hard to find. But they would be nice to have in some quantity for filling out a dungeon or encounter. And, what I wish they would do is keep certain torso/body prints, well, in print. There was a generic 'chain/scale mail' torso print from the nineties that they used to populate both Black Knight and Lion Knight troops. There are the different peasant and forest man torso prints that could, when put on different colored torsos, be used to build peasantry and civies. (Minifig.Me used to do a bespoke program. If I could afford it, I want to propose those prints to them.) But, a generic armor body print that they perpetually kept in print would be nice. A friend had mentioned how Magic: the Gathering maintains a 'core set' of cards that are always in print and work with a wide range of sets in a run. Lego could do well with something like that.

The main reason the bear knight isn’t more expensive probably isn’t that people weren’t into castle when it came out. The figure actually matches the green kingdoms dragon knights quite well, and I’ve seen lots of people build big armies of it because of that. I think the reason it’s not more expensive is that Lego put the torso and legs in Build a Minifigure a few years ago, so people were able to amass hundreds of torsos and legs.

It’s just not that great of a colour either compared with the tournament knight for example

The problem is that these are meant to be highlight characters but since there is a giant Vacuum of castle products released they become the parts that build factions. If they made some more Raven knights then yes like you said would not make this one as desirable. I did take some beast master arms and legs and put them on some of my vintage and other prints to fill out the faction, and I must admit, my wolfpack looks like my most complete faction now, and almost all to a cmf level. And a pack of wild wolves for the forest... So its also a nice solution to be able to use some of these parts.... which I have unexpectedly used many cmf parts even in minis I was not seeking.

This is indeed the problem, castle figures are scarce so it’s no wonder everybody eats them up when theyre so readily available and cheap

@@Brickbandito It is so nice to have them in the CMF line! they have done wonders to enhance my collection. CMF is kinda the best thing lego does, my favorite is actually the Muppets.

It’s very disappointing trying to find the Wolfpack guy. Just like the D&D CMFs, employees of stores are holding them in the back, buyers taking them all or straight up stealing them. Markup online is insane and LEGO refuses to put these on Pick a Brick. The smart and more profitable option for LEGO is to put the torsos and legs as well as the wolf familiars on Pick a Brick six months to a year after release for decent prices. Folks can buy in bulk and LEGO makes more money.

In Magic The Gatheting we call it reprint, in Lego I dont know ho to say it.. remodel it, remade it, remold it... you know what I mean

Timed exclusivity, they are in stores in CMF for the Traditional price, and then $7 on PAB 5 months after the CMF release where retailers are done. Keeps it down. Add to that if need be, Lego should start doing crowdfunding of battlepacks, or Minis for Castle, SW, etc etc for things out of print, or for specific ones. If people preorder to a threshold, they all get made, if they don't crowdfund, then they don't.
@diatonicdelirium17435 күн бұрын
Agreed, battlepacks are the way to go. Couple of months after the CMF series ends, and Lego knows for absolutely sure what is hot. Kills the scalpers, feeds the army builders and Johnny-come-late.

Why would Lego want or need to keep prices down? They thrive off a booming secondhand market and inflated prices

I have a question, what machine do you have to UV print on your figures?
@tmybsfh5 күн бұрын
uv printer, but the quality is not as good as the pad printer, lego uses the pad printer, the cost is higher

My issue is Lego overcharges and under delivers. A small bundle of plastic from China should not cost five dollars or anything close to that.
@Brickbandito3 сағат бұрын
If you break everything down to its base parts you can make anything sound overpriced. Lego is very reasonably priced for what it is, and especially so if you properly adjust for inflation
@samkerr60295 күн бұрын
I don't like that the solution should be to offer customers new figures at a lower quality. As others have suggested as with all original sets the parts should be added to the PaB a few months after their release.

Great video I made a similar one about this issue last week. At the end of the day the core issue is a supply and demand mismatch between how many of the cool new castle figure fans one and how LEGO produces the same amount of that figure as the other 11 not as sought after figures. I like your idea of releasing a cmf along with a castle set that has a similar figure so even if you can't find the cmf you can still get something similar. You have a good point with the falconer, imagine the black falcon parts were never made or put onto pab she might be like a 25 dollar figure now if she was the only way to make black falcons. Also nice tournenament knight army!
