I like it when games actually turn the steering wheel all the way in the first person cam. The only game I can think of off the top of my head that does this is DriveClub. It’s thrilling to actually see the attention to detail and the driver violently countersteer and turn one hand over the other. Feels more visceral and realistic

Forza Horizon 4 is technically amazing, but it feels like it's designed for kids. The way the characters talk to you etc... Also you get Ferraris etc. way too easily (from wheel of fortune) so they don't feel meaningful like in TDU2 where you had to collect money, drive into the store etc.. The problem with FH4 is the dev team. They simply don't know what they're doing and as long as they're the ones making them, I won't be buying any future Horizon games. I wish they'd bring back the dev team that worked on the original Forza Horizon, but that's probably not going to happen. I wish game studios would focus more on making solid remakes of older games rather than releasing lackluster new games. Imagine a Midnight Club 3 remake. That'd be epic.

It’s not the dev teams fault, all they do is develop the game. It’s the game leads/game directors. They choose what content is in the game which the devs don’t really have a say in

A lot of people forget the first 5 NFS games, especially High Stakes and Porsche Unleashed: Every single one of these, even The Need For Speed in 1994, had cockpit view, real-world performance data & history for the car manufacturers, a 3D view of the real car's interior, and a roster with all kinds of cars: Not just tuners and supercars, but some contemporary muscle cars, concept cars, Australian muscle, luxury cars and such. NFS II+ added performance fine-tuning and night racing, III Hot Pursuit and High stakes allowed playing as police + added weather conditions + FREE DLC + OFFICIAL MOD TOOLS, and High Stakes added damage, 3D interiors for cockpit, animated drivers, upgrade parts and visual upgrades! It's a damn shame most people ignore these games simply because they came before Underground.

tdu2 was one of those games to me that despite being 30+ hours into the game and not even being close to completing it, i never got bored, it had so much attention to detail and especially with the open world that even i had to slow down to like cruising speed, obeying traffic laws cuz the police actually react to certain violations, indicate turn signals, opening the roof while driving, customizing your character and just the amount of stuff that game had. The view despite the graphics not being too great was still amazing to me at the time and the music. the devs really made you feel that you are in control, you earn what you earn, everything just blended well for being a rags to riches type of progression almost

I honestly came in expecting a more objective and of course constructive criticism, but (no offense) I cannot say that I got much of that from this video. I don't dislike the video, but it's not what I'm looking for. Car sounds are like the last thing I would complain about in modern racing games when the majority of them have superior sounds compared to older racing games in general (although my standard spans through a wider timespan into the 90's, where car sounds like hand dryers). Story in racing games aren't really necessary either. If I were to complain about modern racing games, it'll be the *progression.* Modern racing games either fall into 2 camps: 1. Literally no progression whatsoever and you just get stuff immediately without earning it, and 2. A grindfest to sell in-game currency (even worse if it got RNG upgrade system). People loved Gran Turismo because you start with some Toyota Vitz and end up in a Toyota GT ONE, most modern racing games doesn't really have this anymore.
@weonvirtual
@weonvirtual 3 жыл бұрын
@@shira_yone yeah the progression needs to be improved by a lot. Not only that, the innovation also needs to be improved. I’m weird and actually prefer that. I wanna go out and do things my way. I felt restricted in the other Horizon titles, because almost every race served some arbitrary goal that didn’t really do much. Leveling up various festival sites in 3 seemed pointless, as you never really got to explore the festival sites, and the only thing leveling them up did was unlock more races. I really enjoyed it, but I definitely enjoy the open ended freedom 4 gave me to just let me do what I wanted. I’m having as much fun with Horizon 4 now, that I did when I started at launch.

PGR 3 Had a very similar feature to TDU2. You could buy car lots to store your cars, walk around them, move cars around the garage, and there was even a secret arcade game in each garage. Just like you said, we will forget about it once FH5 comes out. Edit: To adress the engine sounds, previous games had better sounds than FH4, some of the sounds are even kept in the game files. If they carry on the direction 4 has took then they may as well remove the Horizon in the franchise's name, the Horizon festival itself has so little meaning in FH4 it may as well not be there at all. I think the term we are looking for here is PERSONALITY. Older games had creative ideas and went with it. Devs took risks, now it more about playing it safe for the sake of the bottom line. Burnout 3 and NFS Most Wanted (2005) had personality and probably wouldn't be made nowadays.

It seems that with the absolute mainstreaming of video games for the masses, has in fact began to ruin the very thing that used to make video games fun. Video games 10-15 years ago were popular and in the mainstream yes, but they weren't made to appeal to every single person on the planet like they are now. They seemed to play to their specific audience and to deliver the best game for said demographic, not water down said genre in order to pull in outsiders above their fan base.

Another large factor is the exponential growth of development costs for AAA games: Think about how much more resources games need now due to significantly better graphics, sound and the expectations for open worlds in the vast majority of them: this is what truly killed off most racing games and discouraged innovation. It was cool because we never really experienced boss in that form before ( and sadly after) FH1, like in a racing game, there is no enemy or attacking, so it's not like you can hit another car multiple times and win the level, it was such a perfect innovation and it stood so distant from NFS(which was the other open world racing game). It gave a new definitions and fields that had never been looked at in games from that lens. Now it's just missing the content.
@roviH
@roviH Жыл бұрын
@@sahandbabaie I don't know about that, man. The concept of a "boss" type character being in a racing game wasn't a new idea-it's just that at the time Horizon 1 came out, racing games in general were already moving away from that type of gameplay element. It was one of the few games to still have it, while also having a great aesthetic, great gameplay, and high production value. In more recent times, boss characters have been making a return in other franchises like NFS. Like in Heat for example. It's ironic how Horizon 1 kept that tradition alive, but then let it die in its sequels; while Horizon's competition became the ones bringing the concept back to the forefront. The examples I gave in my old comment are two older games (from 2005 and 2003 respectively) that heavily featured "boss" type characters, while being arcade racing games.

The "get what you get" aspect of older racing games is really what made beating the game worth while, sure it might discourage people from playing because it's hard but you cant sacrifice the depth of the entire game just to suit the needs of every passing player. The long lasting players will always be around to play the newest releases, and companies just don't think capitalizing on the dedicated fanbase is profitable.

IMAGINE: The first FH5 expansion is one where the player can go to a private island of high stakes. One where you race for pinks on crazy courses. Basically, a location designated for those looking for a hardcore experience. High stakes, and high rewards with its own community based hierarchy... Maybe even little cliques are formed and have turf wars lol. Could be so many neat things you could do with that. It'd make players appreciate their cars and money that much more.

As much as i enjoyed Horizon 4, I always come back to the same question everytime, "why does Horizon 4 feel so lifeless and limited compared to older Racing Games?" And it still sucks, that newer racing games will never be like the older racing games. Games like NFS Carbon, where you fight against every Clan which is based on the main story itself, or Most Wanted list in NFS MW '05, where you have to climb your way up the beat the No. 1 blacklist through races, challenges, speed traps and etc. Game Companies and Publishers these days just doesn't want to take risk anymore. They think by shoving a lot of cars on our faces will gain more money for them, a lot of variety of cars is great and all, but where's the fun and true innovation? Remember the days when we have a lot of racing games which that doesn't need licensed Cars? Games like Burnout, Split Second and etc. they just let their creativity out without worrying too much about expired license deals. Or maybe Blur, a fun arcade-combat racing. Is just sad. But i only have a little of hope for racing games this 2021, and i doubt it would make any difference, we'll just have to wait and see :(

They are programmed to slow down in some corners more than they should. It’s so unrewarding knowing that the only way to beat these AI is through shitty programming and not raw skill. I feel that we're starting to go through a cycle with racing games. First, they start with the vision and make a prototype due to the current technology limitations. Through time as technology improves, they work on the pure mechanics such as graphics and handling of cars. This is where we are and it almost seems like developers are selling their progress by not actually progressing with the original vision but rather building a foundation. Last is the complete vision of where that great story that they once told now followed up with the best graphics and handling they can offer. Developers will have no limits to their imagination and we'll have some solid racing games. No idea how long that'll take but its fun to wonder.

I dislike both of the "The Crew" games because their physics are based on framerate, resulting in a 60-fps lock which is unplayable to most people who are used to a higher refresh rate (like myself). This problem will probably slowly but surely disappear now that consoles have *finally* caught up and offer 120hz options, but it will still take some time. While it was not great to play at 60fps, The Crew (1) was good enough to play through despite being fps-capped. The crew 2 on the other hand... Played an hour, never touched it again. Absolutely hated everything about it.

Also about that stat, I can confidently tell you that the target audience of the crew on PC has a higher percentage than 8% in terms of high refresh rate monitors. The game is harder to run in the first place so people who use a macbook to play CSGO should already be excluded from their target audience since they’d never be able to run it anyway.

Half a year ago I've bought a used xBox 360 and Forza Motorsport 4. Since 2011 I wanted to play it, but had a PS3 and was short on disposable income for a long time. And I can tell - it is still breathtaking. Considering the hardware is 17 years old, it still amazes me. What is so brilliant about it? Well: - The gameplay isn't distracting - you race cars, you earn money and win cars + customization. - No randomized card system - you want more difficulty - just set sliders to he right, and you'll win more, simple as that. - Menus show the age - lack a few options and could be a bit faster to navigate, but it's still manageable. - Menu music (courtesy of Lance Hayes) is beautiful, I still listen to it when driving IRL or when walking to work - it's soothing, relaxing, yet dynamic. Hard to describe. - The cars are the STARS. No distractions, no "cool yo homie" underground stuff or battle royale aesthetic, neither is it a full on GT3 racing sim only for the hardcore. Some may call FM4 sterile, "too clean" - I love it. The feeling that you're in a huge warehouse with hundreds of both exotic missiles and humble grocery getters on opposing ends of the spectrum. And all of the wonders in between. I yearn for a next-gen game like this.

I think the best way to describe Horizon 4 is “empty”. Sure the map is stuffed full of events, but none of them are consequential. Once playground games stops making new events, people will realize the map and world will get boring really quickly. It’s not a game world you want to spend time in just for the sake of it, unlike horizon 1 or 2. And like you said, there’s no story to push a sense of progression or finality. It’s racing game purgatory with no ending.

FH3 in the trailer did not included people or the festival, they made this cinematic. Horizon 3 was trying to sell itself as a spectacle with the cinematic trailer and the hot wheels. The expansions in the early Horizon expansions were realistic and the fast and the furious expansion did not go as unrealistic as hot wheels or speed champions.

The thing I miss most about older racing games is any sense of achievement. It has all been removed from the modern games because they just hand everything to you on a silver platter. I remember in gran tourismo 5 which was the first one I played I started with a gem 1 MX5 and slowly did the cheapest upgrades to make it better until I could finally afford my next car. Then the sense of achievement I got when I went to buy my first Ferrari was so exciting. You look to today and every time you do a race in the two racing games I play GT sport and horizon 4 you get free stuff and too much money. I have nearly 500 unique cars in forza 4 and I probably bought about 80 of them. STOP GIVING ME FREE SHIT it takes the fun and excitement out

I understand that this guy is telling his opinion and everyone has a different view on these games, but regarding the comparison of forza horizon games and as someone who put well over 400 hours in forza horizon 4 i can tell it has been the best racing experience I've tried in racing/adventure genre, and this is coming from someone who played most racing games since 2002 let me start off with the map it is a 4 season changing map that looks absolutely stunning and is different in each season and all cars drive differently with each season, the car collection in this game is enough to fill a dozen car museums only second in this game to forza 7 Motorsport, the game itself is not a grindy mess that cost you many hours of playing to win cars or other rewards. there are a whole lot to do in the game to do like racing events, dirt rally events, cross country races, street races, story challenges like the stunt driver and top gear and drift club, an extensive multiplayer to experience and i could go on all these things this dude fails to appreciate in this short horrible summary, instead he mentions the only thing forza horizon 4 doesn't excell in (car sounds) as a car enthusiast like myself and any other petrol head that played this game i don't care about a story or grinding to feel rewarded after a difficult event i just want to drive all the cars my heart desires and modify or tune them and this game has more than served my need for the ultimate arcade racer game and i can only say good things about it and to say at the end like it's going to be forgettable and no one will care in 3-4 years you Lost me completely. I understand that may be your opinion on it but I've also said mine.

Would just like to add a game to this list that, in my opinion, perfectly showcases just the amount of quality you could get all those years ago. Hot Pursuit 2 (PS2 version). To this day, i still cannot think of a game that has tighter races (honestly one of the few examples of rubber-banding done right), or more intense chases. Even if it's showing its age, a genuine sense of progression as you play through the tournaments, as well as giving you the option to branch out any way you like is very much appreciated. Add to that unique engine sounds, A-mazing track design, a very, very suitable soundtrack (you cannot tell me that "One Little Victory" during a chase doesn't get you pumped up) and so, so much more, and even almost 20 years from now, i still return every now and then to replay it. (also, this is probably one of the better recommendations KZbin gave me recently, it was a really nice video)

Speaking of forzavista for example like what we see in fm4 it's really detailed like...the (openings/closing) doors and hoods sounds!!! and the turning on engine sound with starting engine alerts sounds when u switch on the key before starting and how you jump in the car like real life and hearing the original horn of the car.

I think the biggest curse in the entire VG industry is the shift from single-player focused games to online multi-player focused games. I should clarify, I have literally zero issue with couch co-op and split-screen, my gripes are entirely with online multi-player titles. How the industry is handling and implementing online multi-player is absolutely atrocious. Every online multi-player game is doing everything in its power to sell you loot boxes, or battle passes, or subscription fees to arbitrary content. They don't ever bother innovating, they just want to have the biggest roster (whether it be heroes, or classes, or cars, or champions, or whatever you wanna call them), and that causes the quality to dip down dramatically. They'll constantly lock overpowered content behind paywalls and then put all that profit right into their pockets. For an example, GTA 5 Online has made *SEVEN BILLION DOLLARS THROUGHOUT THE PAST DECADE* and its notorious for having zero quality control and no innovation. Rockstar made their money and they ran with it, rather than putting it back into the game to make it better. Basically what I'm trying to say is that every online multi-player game is trying to be like another online multi-player game (whichever's hot in the moment, usually Call of Duty or Fortnite) and the developers never put their best into games anymore. They just rush them out the door and riddle the in-game store with microtransactions.

Maybe it's because it was designed to high speed races. I started playing racing games back in the 00's and I loved games based on speed like nfs, but today I can't play theses games anymore, after I started playing more simcades games that's closer to reality driving. I enjoy watching Gameplays from games such as Forza horizon e nfs, but I can't play 'em anyone because it feels so unnatural.

And there's more... the tachometer, the HUD that was actually same as the car you were riding, opening the roof of the cars as the Ferrari California, DBS Volante, etc. Sadly that the gameplay got fucked up a bit, also they were losing money because basically every DLC was free for a bug that they never fixed, lol.
