It's a good thing I was hesitant to buy the game recently because it's on sale. So my 70 bucks (if it's not on sale) would be better spent on an iRacing subscription than on this bug-fest of a game😅

I’m just speaking from experience here but most of the NFS games that I played I actually had a lot of fun with them and there was only a few games I didn’t really like. My first NFS game was Prostreet. I first played that back in 2011 on the wii. I wasn’t rich back then and I was super late. But I liked it, had a lot of fun with it, and it made me get into the series. The newest NFS game at the time was The Run. So I got that game and ever since then I played every NFS game up until the most recent one which was Unbound. And I gotta say I had a lot of good fun playing all those games for different reasons. There was 3 games I wasn’t a huge fan of. It was 2015, Payback, & Unbound. Reasons why I didn’t like these games 2015: Online only, bad physics, boring gameplay Payback: Upgrade system, generic map Unbound: Terrible optimization, toxic fanbase I still had some good moments with those games but me personally they just weren’t all that fun for me. But the other games I did play I had such a huge blast playing them. And the reason why I wanted to share my story is because I wanted to make a point here that most fans forgot about. And that point is that these games are just supposed to be fun little racing games at the end of the day. Do they have problems? Obviously yes? But that doesn’t mean it ruins the game completely or that you can’t have fun in them. In my opinion I feel like the NFS fans have criticized/hated the supercar games too much to a point where literally one bad thing ends up ruining the entire game for them. Which makes it hard for well… anything and everything. This might be a personal thing but when it comes to racing games I’m not super critical like how most fans are (unless if there’s multiple issues). I’m just looking for a game to have some fun in all around. I’ve always had this mindset since I was little and I still do to this day. And just to be clear I’m not basing my reasons of off nostalgia because I did grew up playing both the “Golden Era” games like Prostreet and the “Supercar Era” games like The Run. There was only a few games I didn’t like. But the other games I did enjoy them for what they offered at the time. I loved customizing and making designs for my cars in Prostreet and Heat. I loved running from the cops, the open world, and the soundtracks in MW2012 and Rivals. Also I thought the concept that The Run had was pretty cool. Despite all the issues the games had. For me they all offered pretty solid different gameplay experiences and I still had a lot of fun with them. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I just wish there was more people like me who weren’t always super critical and just enjoyed the games for what they were during those times. Also at 5:55 I just wanted to say THANK YOU for pointing this out. I don’t know why people say MW2012 has no progression when there’s literally locked upgrades and cars you cannot get right away. Yeah it’s not as good as the older games. But it’s not like they hand you everything at the start. Man people really overreact over every single thing.

Although admittedly when playing back Hot Pursuit 2010 I didn't get the same satisfaction as I did when I was a kid, as I did miss the customization I had been spoiled on with Most Wanted and ProStreet. Still, I feel like Unbound is just a different direction for the game, and is in an era of dystopian crazy bodykits. I'd argue that if they can work on not having cringy dialogue and having a more diverse soundtrack (some metal and dubstep wouldn't hurt), it would practically be perfect. Hell, I wouldn't mind leaving open world behind for a game in favor of a more professional racing scene.

That's why I'm sad that we may never see a concept car or any new rare cars anymore in a need for speed game. the themes that the vocal fans want, those who grew up in golden era, are street culture with low-end mass-produced cars and a focus on characters more than cars. They forget that NFS is primarily a "car showcase" video game, a part of it's identity that I don't want to disappear. Criterion brought back that essence with Hot Pursuit 2010, with fast supercars and a narration that praises the car as if advertising it. Imagine a need for speed with a car roster of asphalt 8, we could have cars like Citroën Suvolt, Pininfarina Battista, or even a revival of Ford GT90. Does anyone even remember Isdera Commendatore 112i? I still do, thanks to NFS. We couldn't have that anymore since what's important to the fans right now, is tinkering the car instead of appreciating the ones that the car designers and engineers worked hard of perfecting.

I think you’re not pointing out obvious issues that this era had the soured people to it. HP 2010, great game, but it was too short and got stale quickly due to a lack of event variety imo compared to HP2. The Run, was just way too short. MW 2012 is the problem child. It was a game that didn’t appeal to any NFS fan, and played more like Burnout than an NFS and probably should’ve been titled as such. Then there’s Rivals. An incredibly fun game but with a ton of bugs that still to this day can be a problem like an infinite crash cam, or the world failing to load in leaving you stuck and unable to move and possibly crash the game.

i've once found an instagram reel about 2015 and its music, i've went to the comment section and... people were calling 2015... UNDERRATED?!?? i can't believe people would genuinely choose 2015 over other games in the nfs franchise because of the "look", that stupid "gta 5, 4k ultra HD always wet roads graphics mods" graphics, the unberable handling, the lacking story, the stupid cops... hell even the cars are a quite little small choice... and this is underrated guys. i genuinely have no words for this community anymore

I grew up during the golden era, and these games definitely have a special place in my heart, but my all time favorite will always be The Run. I'll never say it's objectively the best, it's just the one that speaks to me the most. Also the challenge series in that game were AMAZING.

For me, the Classic Era is the actual Golden Era and the Supercar Era is a close second. The Blackbox Era had a few truly great games in Hot Pursuit 2, Most Wanted, and The Run, although the first one is based on the Classic Era, while the last one fits into the Supercar Era. The Modern Era has been so bad, that I've lost interest in the series.

This video really sums up my personal issues with the NFS community. These games got so overhated for not being NFS MW 2005 basically. The sense of speed and graphics and car sounds of HP 2010 and the remaster are phenomenal. It's one of the few games that I've 100% completed. And the weapons give Hot Pursuit that extra kick to make the Cop Chases more entertaining and terrifying. Most Wanted 2012 had some of the most fun events and one of the most fun open world maps ever, but people don't like it because it has the name Most Wanted attached to it. At a certain point these complaints from NFS "Fans" have gotten so convoluted that they end up going back on themselves and it actively stops companies from doing something new. They hated the graffiti effects for being too cartoony yet a lot of people enjoyed NFS Nitro for its cartoony boxy style. They hated any references of LGBT people or politics in Unbound and Heat that built the background characters of the city and progressed the story and complained about wanting an escape from reality and yet the weapons of HP 2010 were too much for them. The music of NFS Heat and Unbound has been criticized even though they're purposefully crafted to fit the theme of the game and theme of the location just like the grunge metal and rap music of MW 2005 and the electronica of NFS Carbon. NFS has rarely ever strayed far from its formula (besides NFS Shift which was also fun but I digress) and yet somehow people still find a way to hate on anything outside of the black box or classic eras. It's genuinely disappointing.

This is funny to me because reading your comment also sums up my issues with the NFS community. I mean literally everything you’re saying is true. The fans go back and forth here way too much it’s honestly insane. MW2012 is a pretty fun racing game but fans hated it just cause of the name. People complained about the stories from Heat and Unbound and want an escape from reality but draw the line at weapons from both HP2010 and Rivals. People complained about the cartoon effects from Unbound yet they gave Nitro a pass. And the music from Heat and Unbound was definitely overhated for no reason at all. It was just curated to match the themes that they were going for at the time just like you said. And me personally I never really cared for the music anyways. I might not like them but it definitely didn’t “ruin” the game for me like most people whined about. I just turned the music off, got over it, and went on with my day. But yeah it’s just insane how these fans are today.

NFS MW 2012 had extremely well designed cutscenes before racing or to introduce the Most Wanted cars. This is what I remember most about this game, the designs around events in general were really well thought out. It's far from being the best NFS of course, but it's even further from being a bad game.

Hot Pursuit 2010 (and the remaster) is definitely in my top 3 best Need For Speeds of all time, and I hate when people try to label NFS as ONE thing.. When it's been soooo many different things in different eras over the years. All of which were good in their own right. It's just the blinding of nostalgia that keep people hating on even the newest Unbound that's LITERALLY updating the game with features from previous NFS titles this year. Crazy.

90s and early 2000s NFS "Classic Era" is still the greatest. I loved how NFS Hot Pursuit 2010 and Rivals brought back that classic era of NFS, the open roads, dynamic weather changes, driving sports cars, supercars, hypercars against the police, was fun! The Underground fanboys ruined it. We need a NFS Rivals 2 or a High Stakes 2, or even a Hot Pursuit 4 type of game!

You know what the supercar area sells for me? its the fact that you start fast, it just give you a salection of fast that are sicking fast and then lets you unlock even faster ones, while dosent bother with the whole upgrading and work your way up sinanigans, making every car valid and fun unlike the old ways where you start what is arguably a pice of junk in the end people play racing games becuse they love driving fast cars in video games, and the super car area knows it, it allready give you a supercar and just let you have your fun without restrictions, while offering the best roads to drive on

I disagree with the point of loosing inovation. Yes the Run had some parts that looked nice and felt good, but in the same game you get a campaign that takes no longer then 2 hours and is filled with quicktime events and useless cutscenes. So inovation is there but it gets overshadowed by other factors. Also i myself dont want have action scenes that i can just look at i want to play it. If i want an action racing game with interaction i play splitsecond velocity. Its Better in everyway in achiving this movie feeling and you can actually interact with it. Most wanted was cool in its driving, but it was never a need for speed game. Its burnout. Finally my problem with the supercar era was the missing bond you get between yourself and your car. NFS for me was always a story of you, a racing driver working with your car to reach the top. Repairing your damaged car in NFS 4 and Porsche, tuning it until you can beat the next race in Underground or even modifying it in underground 2 because you have a photo shooting event. A Supercar is exaclty that, super in almost every way. Good handling, good looks and very good power. What kind of bond is there to be made? I already have all i wanted right out the dealership.

Growing up playing NFSU2 and NFS Carbon, when my parents finally bought me a PS3 and eventually NFS Rivals, to me it was just extremely shocking and disappointing. The game isn't bad (and I've grown to like it) but to me, coming from Underground and Carbon, it just wasn't Need for Speed, it was not what I thought I was going to get from a NFS game. Because the tuner culture NFS are some of the most popular and brought the series to the top of the charts, I think that when they switched themes they were bound to lose some of their fans

Now I actually like NFS Rivals for example but at the time I felt differently lol. I don't think they were bad games in general and they were arguably even more true to the name "Need for Speed" because of the origins of the series, but since NFS peaked around the Underground era, a lot of people associate NFS with something different than what we got with Hot Pursuit, Rivals etc.

As a first: I can see why they needed to shift their focus to supercars and hypercars, as the focus of the tuning scene was already diminishing since Most Wanted 2005. They added Supercars and Hypercars in there as well, and in order to give the tuning more depth, they introduced autosculpt in Carbon, which was a good addition. Plus, the supercars era was a direction back to the roots to the oldest games in the series. I wouldn't say this in itself is controversial... it's the games, in particular one single game, that brought them into the downward spiral. Hot Pursuit: It was an okay game. I wouldn't say it's a gem, I wouldn't say it's outstanding, but it certainly had its charm. I'm not too much of a fan of the Burnout drifting for real cars, but I can see past that. It also had lots of Supercars in it, just like Hot Pursuit 2 had. It's a legitimate continuation of Hot Pursuit. The Run: Haven't played it too much, it was one of the first NFS which I skipped, but I'm interested to play it. The story honestly looks interesting. Most Wanted 2012: Hot Pursuit, but worse in every way. It had nothing to do with the old Most Wanted except the Blacklist. Again, I can tolerate the drift model of the cars, but having literally no story, very little normal cars, no real progression system, searching for cars in the city instead of deserving the right to use them/buy them... Yeah, you can risk things, no problem. You're allowed to take risks. But in my opinion, EA/Criterion failed with each risk they took. If they would have called it anything else than Most Wanted, it could get more fans behind, but when you're competing against one of the most loved NFS parts, if you make a legitimate successor, then don't release such a hot mess where only the name reminds of the predecessor. And then the scenes where the police cars stack behind each other and build a giant wheel... No thanks. Dear devs, I don't know what you smoked, but don't smoke it anymore. Rivals: Another "Meh" game. It's not a bad game at all, but it's not good. IMHO, Most Wanted 2012 is one of the reasons why NFS is dying a slow death. That game was so fucked and such a disappointment, NFS would have needed to have absolute bangers afterwards to redeem themselves. However, not a single game was a banger. The last ones were probably Hot Pursuit and Shift. They really try to freshen up things with every game, and still they fail. The series has been on life support for 10 years, and it's not improving. As for my part... I'm not surprised in the slightest.

I’ve always had a soft spot for this era of need for speed as the first game in the series that I ever played was most wanted 2012. My favorite of the era is probably rivals. It is one of the need for speed games that I wish could get a sequel. I’d keep the dynamic map and Weather system, but also expand the map a little bit and more visual customization. personally, if there was a game like this made in the future, I’d prefer that it had a mix of supercars, tuners, and everything in between
