Love this fella from Norwich. And it is really good to learn how it all works. It does make you wonder whether any external investment should be allowed at all. If they were all operating off the same budgets then philosophy and organisation and quality would win out. As it is, it amazes me to realise that Norwich are the only club in the PL without external investment

I agree, how is anyone okay with their club being owned by business men who only care about profit or a human rights abusing state? I think fan ownership is the way forward, even if it means a drop in quality, football should be about community, passion and solidarity, not just who has the most money

Yeah ban premier league investment sounds great in theory but in reality the quality would drop like a stone and some other league would use the premier league as a tuck shop
@antony5582 жыл бұрын
@@jimboslice4468 that's my point, I would prefer the quality to drop if it meant football could be owned by the fans and was actually about the football rather than who has the most money. Let’s hope this continues to age like milk! Big difference since this was filmed, especially in the last couple of games, is that we are now playing a 4-4-2 and not trying to play through the lines in possession (in fact, we are probably the most direct side in the league atm). Sargent playing wide in defence but joining the front two when we are in position to attack.

I think JJ nailed it at 20:47 but they didn’t really elaborate on it. The defensive midfield ‘6’ is so crucial to not only a newly promoted team, but a team that wants to build from the back. Norwich replaced alex tettey (Norwich legend) and Ollie skipp (3rd best player last year, now starts for Spurs) with normann who’s looked good but couldn’t stay fit, and gilmour, who has quality but lacks the physicality and defensive nous to play as the deepest midfielder for a team that doesn’t have the ball for the majority of the game. In terms of breaking the cycle, yo-yos don’t go up and down forever. If norwich got 2-3 consecutive seasons in the prem, they’d suddenly be a very attractive option for potential investors. If norwich got 2-3 consecutive years in championship, without parachute payments there will be 14-15 clubs with bigger budgets than theirs, and they could require another 2018/19-esque miracle to break back out. For this reason it’s understandable why they didn’t mind being a “top 26 team” even though that aim has since changed to “top 17 team”

McLean definitely not Prem quality, struggled to get in the team in the championship, suits Smiths longer ball style but not a long term solution (from a frustrated Norwich Fan)
@hughtube51542 жыл бұрын
JJ's an Aberdeen fan and still thinks of Mclean as an attacking mid because he scored a lot of goals for them in that position in Scotland. Norwich, for going on three years now, have used Mclean exclusively as a central midfielder. In the championship he was a box to box midfielder, able to do more attacking because Skipp was there covering the defence but now in the prem Mclean's contribution is largely defensive because we don't have an out and out DM.

Would be really interesting to see a video what kind of model a club should adopt if they're looking to get promoted from the championship and then establish themselves in the prem. Fulham and Norwich's models (quite different) seem to mean that they can't string together a few years in the prem and just swap around between themselves, Middlesbrough splashed out a few years ago and were dreadful, Watford just try and sustain success through new manager boosts... What approach could actually be sustainable and successful in the long term? Villa spring to mind, but they have owners who are quite happy (for now) to sink as much into the club as they are allowed - what happens when FFP prevents investment (Everton), or they get bored/fed up with pumping money into the club for it to not work out?

An Edge of Tomorrow reference on a football discussion about Norwich? Sign me up. And it is hard to sustain a club model like this, but spending a lot doesn't guarantee PL safety also. Fulham's destroying the Championship currently, but they were also pretty rubbish in the PL last time. I think Brighton has the right balance, but even so, if it's true that Norwich's budget is THAT significantly lower, then it might be difficult to even do things like Brighton. Winning the Championship every time you get relegated is pretty fun though.
