People say that old Apex is better because they weren't tired of it. I personally hated it's randomness when it released, tried it again and was overwhelmed by it's complexity in S14, and then I started again in last days of S19, at release of S20, and it was perfectly fit for me. Classes helped me understand the game better, I liked the new shield EVO system and upgrades, I liked every season afterwards (except S22, maps sucked ass). So, when I came back to Apex I saw in 2019, I immediately remembered why the answer to every whine of "old apex was better" is no because it's nostalgia speaking for people, not their experience.
@VoidBeLike8 күн бұрын
I kinda always loved apex. Every game mechanic was fun to me... But not caustic. Caustic is trash. Stormpoint was okay back then, but people get more sweaty every season so they only drop in 3 spots on the map, making it hella boring to land anywhere else and extremely dangerous to land with them. I hate to say this... But the players are the problem sometimes. Respawn not fixing the matchmaking also kinda pushes casuals off, so only the hard sweats are left who are addicted, while also hating the game... But i play on console, so... It's more chill without all those cheaters people talk about.

@@VoidBeLike i play on PC and don't think i've ever saw a blatant cheater either, though i don't play ranked. But yeah Apex is pretty good, I don't get people being unhappy cause there's no content or whatever... If there was more content changing gameplay it'd be unplayable cause it'd change too much and too fast, and if they care about more cosmetics something is really wrong with em lmao. Overall i feel like those people's biggest problem isn't the state of Apex but the fact that they spend all their free time playing one single game.

Coming from a mostly Overwatch player (and occasional Apex enjoyer), OW also has a "classic" mode going on right now. A lot of comments on this video hit the nail on the head in regards to how I feel about the throwback. It's fun for a few games, but overall with the balance and QoL we've gotten, it's hard to say what is "more fun". Can I reasonably say that the past was more fun or are the feelings of newness/freshness what I'm really thinking of? It was fun because it was new and fresh and because we didn't know how it could be better. (Lucio feels like a sack of bricks in classic. You can't tell me he's not more fun these days.) I miss learning a game and slowly falling in love with it, but I also appreciate the changes that led us to where we are now. This all applies to Apex too. I quite like how Apex is now, but do I miss the time when I first started playing? Of course. But that's the point of these throwback events. To maybe get some nostalgia back, but to appreciate what we have today. (Another great MooreOver video as always. I hope you continue to grow! You deserve it ❤)

Yeah but if you give the choice to play any mode at any time, itd draw many people from the main game mode, which is what they actually work on. And seeing just how much (most) of the og legends have improved makes me appreciate current apex a bit more. Octane was completely unplayable, and that's coming from someone who has been maining octane since my first ever time playing (shadowfall event) the ltm really helped me not take current apex for granted bc at its core, it's still apex
@The_Fuse_Maestro118 күн бұрын
Me and my personal answer I prefer new apex over the old. For starters love the video cause you nailed it exactly on the head on how we feel. For the first day or 2 I was grinning ear to ear playing the original apex legends experiencing what we had from goofy combinations with a 3x on a smg is bananas funny. But day 3 im not only over it but sick of it. What we have now is so much better but that being said its changed a bit much with how survival kits are a must and especially this season someone or all 3 on a team needs to play a support character. I feel like why people say older apex is better is because of the monetary and the cheating. It’s gotten way out of hand with these new store fronts called “milestone events” which is a cancerous tumor that begrudgingly stuck to us. Then the cheaters. I’m on console so I’m fortunate enough not to run into the bat shit crazy cheats that PC ppl gotta endure but with strike packs like Cronus/Zens for console players it’s as bad or worse most days. The question I ask myself on a daily basis is “why am I still playing this game ?” And I remind myself that the universe this game is set in is fucking awesome like I loved TF/TF2 and how fluid the movement felt it took me back to the golden days. Another reason I stay is for my favorite character to probably ever exist in gaming is Fuse. Just the typical one eyed Aussie who likes to blow shit up is always fun and to boot I have a mullet just like Fuse which I might cosplay as Fuse for a convention whenever they come to my state. And beyond all it’s the friends I’ve made along the way. The laughs we shared to hearing daily problems helping each other out while playing a game of apex or talking in the firing range. I really don’t want this game to go down the shitter it’s such a big part of what I like and enjoy and I’d rather play this than Fortnite or Warzone 12 out of 10 times. If you somehow read my comment MooreOver thanks for taking the time to read this. I just discovered you like 2 weeks ago with your “Uninteresting details in apex legends”. And hope to see more in depth videos on that. Maybe cover planets the legends are from would be a good watch. Stay cool bro 🤙🏻

I think people generally have this sense of nostalgia, and then exaggerating the feelings of the past, than what it actually was. I miss season 1 apex, but I did not enjoy it. So I left after seasons 2. The later seasons have been able to keep me here since ss19. Maybe cheating in EU is less, idk why but it is an enjoyable experience for me.

All I hope for -- tools to make your own custom servers. It has so much potential to keep casuals from boredom. Team Fortress 2 is still alive thanks to this. But Respawn won't do that because someone is definetely gonna make a server-side skinchanger and thus EA will lose money. I know about R5 but it's still community-only project with little to no support from the actual developers of the game. It takes time to adapt to changes and with game service they happen rather frequently.

After playing the new mode I just kept thinking of different seasons they should bring back as LTMs. S3 for Charge Rifle. S7 for OG Horizon. Etc. I like the private lobby change but w/ a battle royale it’ll be impossible to fill unless they did LTMs. Maybe a dedicated “Throwback LTM” playlist?

This is a pretty good video. I started playing Apex in season 3, and it was all i could think about for years. As of 2024, I've lost that spark. It might have to do with burnout, or it could be something else. Another reason why I fell out of love with Apex is the complete rework of my favorite character, Revenant. I've mained him sinced season 4, but ever since they've reworked him, he just doesn't feel the same anymore. Sure, his kit wasn't the best, but I'd rather have a bad and unique kit rather than a mediocre one.
@matteorusso40018 күн бұрын
Personally I agree about the constantly changing part of live service games because that's how they are: the first few days after release are always the best times for casual friendlies for players. After that, players immediately start trying to optimize everything and start to see cracks in the armor of balance. This is why the best time to play is always the first two weeks, after which everything will start to change for everybody. I can't say either that Apex was better before or now because Launch Royale showed the simplicity of the game, net of the balance problems that over time they tried to balance but created various layers of difficulty, but as I wrote it was predictable given the constant changes and the power creep that is gradually created. In the end, as said in the video, the answer is subjective for each of us, but I also agree that it would be correct to give players the options of choosing which moment of they loved live service games to recreate to have more fun.

@despacijoe8 күн бұрын
My answer is similar to what you went with the video. It kinda depends on what you say is better. I joined apex around the end of season 7 and the beginning of 8. So I have been able to see this game change. The main stuff I remembered around this time was extremely high highs and extremely low lows. The gap between the best legends like Horizon and bottom feeders like Rampart were night and day. I remembered how much sheer joy I felt playing op Horizon and how hype it was if I got a cheeky knock with Shiela with Rampart since she wasn’t a “viable” character. But I also remember how much frustration I have when some Horizon just black holed and grenaded me and when playing Rampart about how useless she felt sometimes. Modern updates put the gap between the best and worst between the two to be closer but I no longer feel that rush of power as Horizon, I no longer feel like an absolute GOAT when I get squad wipes with Rampart because she is kinda playable now with the buffs to her abilities. But I now don’t feel frustrated or helpless whenever I see a Horizon black hole. I’m always having fun with Rampart cuz she’s playable now even if I don’t have a “David and Goliath” moment anymore. I could go on with similar stories like finding purple evo off drop, OP weapons and fast ttk, super hotdrop zones where I stood out victorious among everyone, and snagging teammates banners out of the 4 team 3rd party within an inch of my life since that was the only way I’m getting them back. But the story is still the same, old apex had more special moments due to unbalance but it also had more frustrating elements as well. I can’t remember where I heard or read this interview with an Apex Dev but they said something along the lines of this about Skulltown. “We had to remove Skulltown for the health of the game. We know players will have special moments for when they emerge from Skulltown victorious but not all players are gonna have that. Some one is gonna get knocked in 2 seconds because they got bad loot, the teams that didn’t land in Skulltown are gonna have to wander for 20 minutes with nothing to do until they get rolled by the Skulltown team. We’ll let the players have their fun and moments, but we have to take it away for the health of the game and all the players in Apex” Modern Apex is a lot more balance and less polarizing than before which leads to less frustration, but there is no longer that drive to have “that moment” anymore since everything is so balanced and safe now. There is less reason to leave the game (other than sbmm but that’s a whole different beast) but there is also less reason to pick up and play the game out of the blue. No one is gonna pick up Apex and say to themselves “Yeah, Ima have so much fun whenever I defeat the 2 whole teams that will land with me at Relic town in Kings Canyon.” People are always gonna wanna have that same high of 3rd partying 4 separate teams in Skulltown because they only had 20 health and make it out alive out of the 15 teams that landed there. TLDR: Old apex had better individual moment or games to that are due to the unbalance and janky mechanics like op characters and weapons or fun but unbalance POI (Skulltown), but they gave out more frustrating moments to the players on the receiving end of those experience. Modern Apex has better games overall due to balancing and less frustrating moments and mechanics. But also doesn’t provide that same high rush old Apex had as much that we miss so we just feel kinda numb now.

My favorite iteration of Apex was its season 7/8/9 version. It was in that golden era all live service games experience, where the game had grown healthily and added a lot of great features, but before it becomes unwieldy or bloated. It felt like OG Apex, but with all of its flaws ironed out. Modern apex is good, but I think they've strayed too far from the simplicity that Apex used to have. I think if they removed health bars, class passives, and tuned down some of the more overpowered new legend abilities, the game would be better for it - that stuff unnecessarily complicates the game.

If I cannot physically travel back in time to be with those same people, doing the same content (for the first time) and learning everything over again- I simply will be walking through a museum of memories. I can't play those old games anymore, I just don't enjoy them and I see through the veil of nostalgia into what it's become. I really like the conclusion however- give us a choice. Let us run private/custom lobbies with variable properties and old/custom maps. We need that in Apex so badly and the only way to it so far is playing 3rd party, r5reloaded.

There are lot of things I prefer objectively about older Apex. I don't like most of the newer legends, and I've been luke warm on every map added since Olympus. But I love the crafting system as it stands now, I love the quality of life features, and I absolutely love that there are more ways to get back in when you go down. But old Apex had a simplicity that I really miss. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I actually don't like Evo shields. I much preferred having to upgrade by finding or fighting. I'm still salty about the addition of Sniper Ammo as a discreet type. It makes switching to a new weapon in the late game when snipers are less viable really frustrating, because now instead of just swapping a weapon you have to swap your weapon and all it's attachments. But honestly the number one thing I miss about old Apex is feeling genuinely good at the game. The player base has been distilled down to just the hardcore fans at this point, and while I used to happily hang out in Gold tier in ranked, these days I'm struggling to get out of bronze. You used to be able to make mistakes and still win, but these days it feels like unless I'm totally locked in the entire game, I'm just screwed.

I started playing just after Valk came out, I think the game was a lot better back then, but just my opinion though. There's been lots of good changes and some quality of life updates for sure. But current state of the game is overly sweaty and competitive. Its easier to pick up league of legends than this game tbh. Atleast in league you have laning phase to slowly learn champs also aram. But in Apex when a new player is hot dropped into a fight with 9+ legends firing off abilities and being shot from 6 different angles at the same time, its pretty much a recipe for frustration lol

The game file size would be HUGE if they decided to keep the old version of the maps tho

The legend balancing is a big one imo. They should’ve never nerfed any of the legends that were strong back then. They could’ve just made them perks and not nerfed them. They didn’t have to change little things about their abilities like how they nerfed the slow down effect of Caustic and the movement speed buff for Bang

Gameplay-wise S0 absolutely sucked for me. The randomness and the only way to revive was so dumb. However I remember fondly how the game wasn't stacked with monetization options... although that might be a discussion for another day.

I think the mid seasons were the best seasons 7-14ish (8 is my personal favorite)

Season 1-6 was peak apex for me, the old old battle pass, no sweats in my game, just fun vibes and having fun with friends, I miss those days

Already have my answer to this question from the first frame of this video. Why? - It was the game it was meant to be, a Titanfall battle royale & not whatever they've made it into today with flying medics who can immediately teleport their drone 50ft with a light push.

I didn't even need to play OG LTM to know that it's worst. I still vividly remember playing day 1 Apex and it was fun, but I do not miss the old looting days and unluckiness of fighting with a 3 shot mozam or having no guns as there was 3 white armors on drop. The only thing people actually miss from the old Apex are the either some of the old renditions of OP weapons and the amount of clueless players to feel that dopamine of dominating a lobby.

idk i really think apex was in its prime 2 or 3 years ago, maybe that was just because i was obsessed with running worlds edge and arenas but still thats definitely when i had the most fun with the game

I do prefer new apex, but i do miss the times I had back in the day, that’s nothing to do with the game and everything to do with who I was and where I was in life back then.
