7:56 In the novel (which I believe is actually scarier than the movie...and the movie is damn terrifying), she masturbates with the crucifix. She doesn't stab her self like this. And reading that was fuking insane.

04:09 / 'The AFI Dialogue on Film' was the only periodical that I've come across that mentions 'laughs'. The question for Friedkin (Jan 9, 1974): " Were you upset when you saw the film with an audience and you had all these laughs?" 12:54 / The vulgarity from Regan (during the exorcism) was said to have been placed there for authenticity. Tech. Advisor Rev. John Nicola (on set) pointed out: " There is no way that a case of diabolical possession can be presented on the screen without the use of abusive and obscene language." 18:27 / I agree. Stick to the original version. Good video!!!

The original cut that was first releasedwas the best one. The complete lack of any soundtrack or musical cues left me traumatized.

I couldn't agree more. Excellent video. The quality is often overlooked due to the viewer expecting to watch 'the most scariest movie ever made' tagline. Shame really as it's a well made film, just not scary especially to an atheist like me. When the reports of people fainting in the aisles or running out in fear was mainly due to blood tests in the hospital.

Not scary anymore? What scares people now? What scared people 50 years ago? Consider the fact that different things scare different people. Also consider the news media that reports what happens in the world truthfully and without bias. What scares you more, horror movies or crimes and wars in the daily news? Even ordinary people can be scary.

this video if mostly forgotten already. The Exorcist is still being talked about 52 years later. I think I see the problem here.................

Horror of the modern world isn't so much supernatural anymore, it's reality. Modern Horror should reflect the pure degeneracy and evil we inflict upon ourselves on a daily basis.

It was based on a bestselling book. I think quite a few people knew bascically what to expect.

I don't find it scary anymore, it can still scare modern audiences but, despite it not scaring me personally anymore and there being scarier horror films but I still and will always be in the opinion that the original The Exorcist, is still the best horror movie It doesn't rely solely on being a scary movie, it's also psychological thriller, has a feel a dread and horror throughout, and the buildup alone is creepy enough before the actual possesion/exorcism. Also, unlike most possesion/exorcism movies afterwards, the main character and focus is on Father Karris, Chris is the secondary main character, hell, Regan's possesion is just the catalyst to bring Karris into their story, the main story is about his struggle with his faith, then he gets involved later on

Exorcist III with George C. Scott and Brad Dourif is an amazing horror film and would've been as good as the first film if studio suits had allowed William Peter Blatty to take it where he wanted it to go. But no, those uncreative morons had to put their collective thumbprint on it and ruin the ending.

there are no problems with the exorcist. for me, scary was never the draw. it's how well made the film is. same with alien.
