The Problem With the Suicide Squad

Harley Quinn being in Assault on Arkham made sense. The idea was that she was in Arkham for so long as both an employee, and an inmate she has "An Encyclopedic Knowledge of Arkham's Layout, and it's logistics." It's okay to have popular and more mainstay villains in a Suicide Squad mission, BUT they also need A REASON THAT MAKES SENSE. Not only that but the concerns the other characters bring up to NOT bring Harley on the mission bites them in the ass because she joins the Joker by the end of the movie!

I also really enjoyed Hell to Pay, I just think it doesn't do anything to solve the overarching problems of the current squad. It's just a good use of the current squad. Plus Reverse Flash was in it which is A+.

Duela Dent actually was originally the daughter of Earth-3 Joker, which is why she was a good guy pre-Flashpoint. She was a bronze age Teen Titan for a while. But yeah, the New 52 absolutely butchered her character, along with the whole Squad.

Great video, I would like this to became a series of videos kinda detailing the problem with certain comic book characters or comparing certain comic runs. For example, to me The Teen Titans has a really mixed history with their comic runs, 1960s-1970s run: Forgettable, 1980s run: Great, 1990s run: Awful, Geoff Johns run: great, the run after Geoff Johns left: Mediocre, Titans (2008-2011): so bad it became a Deathstroke's run, New 52 run: Just no...., current runs: pretty solid but got screwed because DC events and continuity.

James Gunn is gonna fix all of this; using the John Ostrander run as a major inspiration, having 98% of the cast be lesser knowns and playing C, D and even Z-list characters like Polka-Dot Man and Ratcatcher, going on missions to places like Panomma, etc.

It’s kind of funny how DC wants Suicide Squad to be the next Guardians of the Galaxy so much so that they got the director from that movie. That being said though, I think James Gunn is going the original route of Suicide Squad with most of the characters from the teaser being C-list characters like Javelin, Black Guard, Weasel, Peacemaker, or Polka Dot Man who will most likely die.

The problem with Suicide Squad in the New 52 and DC Rebirth is that the Suicide Squad is portrayed as anti-heroes, instead of anti-villains. Also, they made the Suicide Squad act too much like Guardians of the Galaxy, and the tone of the comic book is off. Thank Goodness Tom Taylor's run on Suicide Squad fixed all of the Suicide Squad problems. You should read the series. I am also excited for James Gunn's Suicide Squad movie.

I’d reboot the Suicide Squad by essentially having all of the people from the New 52 run form the new Secret Six with Deadshot and recruit the newest D-list supervillains and have them do extremely morally questionable things while being expendable. The whole thing with Joker´s Daughter before the Flashpoint, is that she appeared in story as enemy of Robin and she prank him and told she was The Joker´s Daughter. She later appear and help the Teen Titans mention to be another Batman Villain`s Daughter until she revealed that her real father was the Jokester meaning she is from Earth-3 .

Honestly instead of a movie(the movie suuuccckkeedd) they should have made a r rated suicidesquad TV serie of 6 to episodes on the DC streaming and that take place within the dceu continuity, it fit better for that brand since they have rotating cast. They should keep the concept of it being covert op and have fight grounded villains, heck they could even keep the og suicidesquad story in the canon to the continuity since the original squad was in the past. In my head l see it like a mix between the expandable and Deadpool

If I did Suicide Squad I would have the team made up of alot of these Golden Age relate villains with some of the OGs like Deadshot, Flag, and Boomerang, while also keeping in members like Bloodsport, King Shark, and Peacemaker more newer and recent members. I wouldn't really do Harley Quinn, I like her, but she's not fit for the team anymore and has been shown to be more of a Bat Family member and Bruce wouldn't let Harley be on that team anymore. Their missions would have some of that grounded and realism but then sprinkle in some big time villain stuff like something with Vandal Savage or Dragon King or Fourth Reich.

I’m conflicted because I love the more grounded and military-based style of the classic stories, but I also love the wacky edgy modern style. I do think the edgy dark comedy style would fit Secret Six more though. I find them both very fun to read and watch. I do agree that Harley is one of the most strange picks for a squad member though. Also, to be fair, the Oscar that the 2016 movie won was for makeup and prosthetics (mostly for Killer Croc), rather than any direction, editing, writing, or acting lol.

Literally every single of the villains in the main group get their moment of humanization. Bloodsport deciding to save the island, Ratcatcher saving everyone and the "lowest of creatures" speech by Ratcatcher 1, Polka-dot man and his childhood trauma, Peacemaker killing Flagg (a story arc which continues in the tv series), King Shark making friends with Ratcatcher, hell even Starro gets hiz humanizing moment when he gets killed.
