Telling people that being fat is a condition you can’t work to change is incredibly harmful to society. Absolutely not social awareness. And Brittany is right when she brings up how she’s so quick to call everything racist and participates in the very “communist woke washing” she complains about. She’s incredibly unaware of her own behavior and the effect it has on society.

And I’ve got to add that the critique on how her being obsessed with hating on girls who work out and drink matcha lattes is a personal problem is very valid too. Not too far into the video, but just wanted to note that simply critiquing capitalism does not make someone a 'commie.'... just like critiquing communism wouldn't make someone a fascist. Not only is there a vast spectrum between those two poles, but that spectrum doesn't even capture the totality of economic & political thought. Framing communism and capitalism as an on/off switch makes you sound pretty uninformed.
@jakefromstatefarm5204

Agree but capitalism IS the opposite of communism, not fascism. Fascists ARE socialist. Also, all these so called capitalist businesses structure the workforce in a socialist model nowadays to limit infighting. No more merit raises based on performance and such. Also paid vacation and overtime are socialist principles and I'm not complaining LoL. Yeah it's not black and white, that's why if things worked well, the left and the right are supposed to check each other, not swing back and forth from one extreme to another ✌️

@@jakefromstatefarm5204 Agree with pretty much everything you said, but fascists are not socialist. They tend to nationalize some industries, yes, but they do not redistribute land or try to reorganize class structures in the way that socialists would. @@jakefromstatefarm5204 The socialist part of their name was actually kind of an inside joke among the party. It was helpful for branding earlier in the party's history, when socialism was still popular in Germany. Mina’s videos are “doom and gloom” and that she doesn’t offer hope or practical advice on how to combat systemic issues- that’s because the aim of her videos are to reflect reality with research-based analyses- not to be a self help channel. And the reality is most of her topics ARE intended to be contentious and a critique on modernity. That is usually expressed in her titles. There is an audience for what she does, and it isn’t fact-defying optimism and self-help. You can’t critique her on a genre she is not doing

I liked Mina a lot in the beginning, since I am a vintage clothing collector and historical fashion seamstress. But I haven't enjoyed any of her videos since early 2022? Monolinguals like her are so full of themselves and think anyone who disagrees is antifeminist, racist, etc. and is very nasty in general. I'm not supporting her just because we're both Asian Americans. She loves to drag on white people a lot, but never discusses conflict between other communities. She's Vietnamese and never talks about Vietnamese community clashes with Malay, Cambodian, or Chinese communities. In every. Single. Video. White people did this, white people are 'shameless gentrifiers' so it's refreshing to see someone finally call her out on her attitude with a well done video essay.

14:05 that right there ruined your entire argument on this video. The moment you decide to attack someone else's physical appearance and style choices just because they dont fit your standard for "looks good", it's the moment you show who you truly are. Specially when saying this comment to an audience. Mina obviously drags inspiration from fashion from a specific time period and she does a fantastic job at it, showing she put a lot of effort in it; just like how we all put effort into our appearance and fashion choices.

As a watcher of Mina Le, I have to say I think your criticisms of her takes on "That Girl" is quite fair and I appreciate getting a different view on it, mainly because it was the only point in which you added actual evidence for, but the rest felt very "straw man." You know (or, at least I hope you know) that when she was referring to the cause of fat being multi-faceted, that she wasn't saying "no one can get skinny" and what she was saying was completely backed by science. You agreed with her that forced representation feels weird, but when she got annoyed with the forced representation, you acted like she was contradicting herself when she was literally saying the exact same things just in different ways. I also can't tell what you were trying to say with the whole woke washing criticisms at 5:50, because you appear to agree with her but then started talking about BlackRock and Vanguard as if she somehow was supporting them with her statement? or what? I don't know what they had to do with the woke washing. I guess you were just talking about how they were a bigger issue, as you did with a few other of her issues, but that also feels weird and unnecessary. Just because something isn't the "biggest issue" doesn't mean you can't make a video on it. With that logic, you shouldn't even be making a video on Mina at all since she isn't the "biggest youtuber" doing this kind of content. Anyway, good luck on future videos! It's always good to get different takes on something and I hope you take the criticisms other people have been saying about the fashion-bullying being mean spirited and taking things out of context/misconstruing them to heart and use them to make even better videos in the future :)

@@claire4212 because, aesthetics do not compare to balancing facial features. Having the wrong clothes can positively and negatively affect how one looks and aesthetic has nothing on that. There is a gender pay gap but it’s not due to sexism like most people will have you believe. Most studies are skewed and don’t include specific instances where men are taking higher paying jobs in that field. For example, there’s a big disparity in the medical field with surgeons, but only 12% of women are neurosurgeons, which is one of the highest paying jobs so naturally there’s going to be a disparity. The issue isn’t sexism, it’s more so that as women, out interests just align elsewhere and sometimes those jobs just don’t pay as much in general.
@mahfuzamaisha2213
@mahfuzamaisha2213 Жыл бұрын
@@svetlanaromanov941That's literally JP's talking point. Gender pay gap in the west isn't a simple oh man gets paid less for doing the same shit you do. It's that the pay for jobs that are popular with men gets higher and higher with time while jobs that suddenly shift from having majority male workers to female workers don't have that shift. Corporations have figured out you can have them do the same job for lesser pay. There's also the issue with paid maternity leave and how women that are mothers aren't valued as much in the workplace because of our cultural and social expectations of women being the default parent even when both parents work. JP wants you to believe oh sexism and all that doesn't exist anymore, women earn less because they do jobs that pay less. It's simple and tries to paint people that talk about it as dumb. Whenever a party is doing that, you know they don't want you to dig deeper into the issue.

However, when it comes to the extra woke stuff and the buzz words etc, I tend to zone it out, or just silently disagree and not engage with that part of the video. For some people, I can see how this pushes them deeper into an ideology, as the creator clearly holds those beliefs and they are being shared with and reaffirmed in/by the viewer. I’m the same with creators on the right, or in other idealogical groups too. I can agree with some of it and value the insight but it doesn’t mean I absorb it all like a sponge. Also, this is probably a conspiracy theory of mine but I don’t think people in Hollywood care to make fantasy films of black or African characters/cultures and would rather replace white characters to make characters more interesting and stir up conversation, have a black female role but have her mixed (that’s changing now thank goodness) or make it about race and “woke” topics. You don’t have to agree but again if you asked me, I don’t think they care. And then these popular black film writers either write dramas, comedies, romance or horror. There are black/African fantasy books out their that could be adapted into movies. Also there’s a lack of knowledge on African mythology. All we hear a lot from other cultures especially Greek and they have way more influence in films and books. There are so many African folk tales and mythical creatures that would be excellent in films and books yet are not used or heard of.

@@sunnyblue1244 part of it also is because Hollywood is very risk aversive, they want a quick way for getting money, and that includes only focusing in certain trends, genres, and Titles, why do you think Marvel Stuff became popular? Cuz the trend now is for capeshit, it's like how old westerns were once popular, and dramas in Latin America right now. Fantasy and Sci-fi have their exceptions, like Star Wars and Lord of The Rings, but they really don't get that many audiences or hype, mostly because they're seen as too niche for people to care, and since there's very different ways those genres can be expressed, diffrent technologies, magic and settings, some people just don't like that, and Hollywood will do even less of it because it means spending more on Special Effects, Costumes, Props, and CGI, and not every one of them will be an Avatar sadly

It really is sad to see. Many of them sit comfortably in a first world capitalistic country, ignoring what generations prior had to endure to even give them the life they naively take for granted, all to play the “Racism = white people. Power = white people. White people = bad. White majority countries = capitalism. Capitalism = bad” game … because it always boils down to such when it comes to their reasons for supporting it. Their black and white way of thinking consists of going all out against whatever they’ve been naively led to believe is ‘bad’ and throwing their hat in for the complete opposite. Due to how much they believe themselves to be intellectually superior and ~enlightened~ for being able to see the ‘bad’, they’ll ignore what prior generations experienced because right now, only _their_ experiences matter … and truthfully, all they’ve experienced is life in a first world country. Yet they somehow equate it to being the same (or worse), and as we all know, a first world country obviously equals bad white people shit. White people = power, racism, etc. etc. etc. Modern first world academia has really done a number on these types of people…

Commies are awfully quick to suck up to the most capitalist industries and companies. Designer brands aren't automatically ethical with their production. I watched some of her Met Gala videos since I like to see people ragging on absurd fashion choices. Then I watched some of her essays, and then came forth the incessant buzzwords, "systemic, racist, sexist, appropriation, transphobic, fatphobic homophobic" etc. Hard not to roll your eyes. If your argument defaults to, "This is bad because of X-ism/phobia." Then you need to do a better job of breaking down whatever it is you're critiquing. A lesbian rejecting a transbian's advances qualifies as transphobia, so does that mean the lesbian is a bad person for not entertaining a male with a PP as a potential partner? Declaring something an X-ism/phobia is not a fully formed point. If I don't view something as transphobic, then I will never understand why you're against it, it is a very subjective way to declare something as bad. These commie video essays are not designed to convince people of something they disagree with, it is validation to those who already believe those things, that they are enlightened individuals for seeing CottageCore as a racist subculture where others do not.

People don't even know what capitalism is. I went to college for three years for business administration, and took many courses on micro and macroeconomics. Capatalism is a FREE market based on supply and demand. In capatalism, monopolies are not legally allowed to dominate ANY market. In this country, it is ILLEGAL for any monopoly to dominate any market. Yet, it's not enforced, monopolies literally control EVERY SINGLE MARKET. That means we are not in a truly capitalist society. You can't blame capatalism for all our problems when we don't even have a truly capalist economy. Our government WANTS us to believe we are operating in a capatalist economy, were not.

And I'm very left leaning and critical of capitalism myself, yet it just gets tiring to listen to her constantly complain about the patriarchy and tiktok/fashion trend XYZ being problematic. Sometimes a fun trend is really nothing more than a fun trend and it ain't that deep. Like the that girl trend for example. I personally find the typical that girl routine with the waking up early, doing yoga etc. to be a little bland and basic, however, the term "that girl" in itself can be inspiring to just be the best version of yourself. Plus it's a matter of how you create your own that girl routine and what works the best for you personally, but I thought that's self explanatory. Plus there's nothing wrong about inspiring people to get your shit together and care about your health. With a lot of video essays of hers, I clicked on it because I was curious about her takes but at the end of the video I just found myself empty and bored.

Girl, what I think you missed a lil is a thing called nuance. Like yes, ofc that people should not see themselves as victims to their circumstance (even tho they might be and that's also ok) , and if they have to or want to change sth they sure can, but u cannot deny the fact that after that systematic oppression does play a big part in people's life and that's what I suppose Mina meant. Like who's sitting around saying that they cannot do anything about their situation be it body image, mental or physical health, their finances or their social life, I think that those people are the ones who try to get ahead of said satiation bc they literally have no choice sometimes. Also people can criticize capitalism and still take a part in it, it's literally how the world works and the girl gotta eat, damn. About balletcore- in the same video she also said how black professional ballerinas have less opportunities to do ballet, to be accepted into classes or to be given roles, she also said that they spend extra money to color their shoes with different darker tones bc they are not made in black tones- funny how u skipped to put that in your video. About Mina's eyebrows- I thought we were here to discuss her takes on different topics but I guess u needed to vent about stupid eyebrows for quite a while... About her shopping at actually more expensive trift stores- ok that one I actually agree with.

i used to like mina le when it was mostly about explaining fashion brands' history. but as i saw more of her content, i saw how the fashion was just a gimmick and her main goal was to talk about non-straight people getting oppressed, racism, and fatphobia. while all of those three do exist still (fatphobia in the sense that some asses treat fat people rudely just for being fat), she has a classic defeatist mindset. when you mentioned 'the white girls going to pilates and drinking matcha latte' as white privilege, it was very bizarre. the whole matcha craze actually started in the US by a half japanese woman so it makes sense that even a non-asian person would like it. also i don't think any white person acts racist at someone for drinking...green tea based drinks. i did witness some white students bullying others for brining ethnic lunches (at my school, some boys threw a chinese girl's chinese lunch into the rubbish bin just to make her feel bad), but matcha...? and if some people do bully others for other culture's food, it's because they're assholes. mina should go outside the US and witness with her own eyes of how anything outside of other people's cultures can get the same backlash as the indian students' curry at an all-white school. humans in general do not feel immediately comfortable seeing foods they're not used to. i still can't forget my reaction to the british jellied eel. while the locals there love it, to me, it looked like something straight out of hell.

i clicked on this video expecting to be something at least a little serious and it turned out into a facial harmony class?? and talking about "balance" in fashion?? seriously? i'm sorry to myself for giving my attention and engagement to a woman solely attempting to tear another woman down simply because she doesn't agree with her. if you were already giving bad vibes for half the hideo, lost me at straight up saying "and she dresses ugly". wins the most pointless thing ive watched on youtube for a long time and that's saying something
