I think my biggest gripe is that no matter how hard I try, there's no practical or fast way to utilize the modification stations and spaceships. They're just there (as is cooking), and you never have the necessary resources to utilize them. You can also just find modded weapons as you adventure, defeating the purpose of learning to mod your own. It's just a mess of systems that don't all mesh together fluidly enough.

I'm with you on that, they're super inconvenient. It is better if you build a house and start hoarding materials to craft with but it's still annoying.

Nailed it. There are lots of separate elements to like, but I think it suffered majorly due to overhype by both Bethesda & also from fans(which comes down to how early it was announced). With it being announced so far in advance of its release date, players have so much time to dream up & theorise gameplay mechanics, with the final product never having a chance to live up to expectations.

im impressed youre able to make a cohesive script in a matter of days since mentioning thinking about doing missed quests on stream

I don't explore just to explore. I explore to find the best locations for my manufacturing outposts and then I take a look at anything interesting I find along the way. My manufacturing outposts generate cash and a ton of XP. All that XP then leads me into the Perk Challenges. I am bouncing around between manufacturing, exploration, perk challenges, mission boards, ship battles (Boarding and stealing ships and contraband) ship design, outpost detailing, minor quests, faction quests, but I don't grind POIs. I start a game by getting my income and XP sources set up, upgrading my ship, and building up my character. Once those are established I start working in the quests. I am having a great time with the game despite it's faults. The new features from the latest update are a welcome addition, but should have been in the game from the start. They were very much needed and will make my approach to the game much more enjoyable, but I really need that land vehicle.

Nailed it with this, man. All of the grievances you have with game, I share the same sentiment. Good video man!

You nail how I felt about crafting and outposts. It sounded awesome in the pitch but the reality was… it’s pointless.

Oof, it really sounds like the game needed more time for development. I kept thinking that maybe mods could help some of these issues a little bit, but even modders have come out and said they can’t fix some of the inherent flaws in the game like you laid out.

I don't think games need more time in development. They need more pressures and less scope. I'm currently enjoying star ocean 2, it's ambitious for its time, but is a fantastic game. We are asking too much out of games and this is the result, nothing is polished

Awesome video, Bill.

The outpost links give most of the resources and money you need to craft, you can buy any resources from places like paradiso and the key to name a few but maps will help with this for new players. The legendary mods can be taken to a bench and then the gun can be built around the played needs. As for ships and capacity, most people need to try ship building, extra thrusters and cargo holds is the way to put that up, but you could just drop stuff in a unused room weight free, or mule your 7 characters. What is more important is we will get more vendor credits, custom habs with chests for storage, and focus on survival with food and drinks becoming relevant if you like that sort of immersive element and more player storage... Later on they have exploration as a focus, but I will say the variety changes as you level up, lots of people don't know because they didn't hit level 10 or finish the main story because it's easy to think the first couple of planets are like every other...it's not true at all. But the rover, some exploration based quests and more environmental hazards should spice it up....I'd also recommend adding a few more random things in the early systems to make a better first impression to get players into that story and on to further and more exiting star systems.

My biggest gripe about Starfield is how nothing is explained. I'm around 30 hours in and haven't touched the ship building or base building. I didn't even know you could build bases until I accidentally put down a beacon, it was a while after that before I even figured out what I did or what the beacon was for. I ended up just getting irritated and played it less every day til I finally got bored enough to drop it and play something else. Serves me right for going in blind I guess. The next update better be a banger

You made a good point about something I feel like will become a mod in due time. If we had the requirement to use fuel for space travel, then we would be required to land in a random planet every now and then in the way to the quest to gather fuel from minerals (if we hadnt restocked somewhere else, like in a city). This alone would be a huge boon for the game against the argument that exploration is pointless, specially when coupled with survival mechanics that make environment hazards more of a thing. So, just make warp jumps to other systems cost fuel, like in mass effect.

I was incredibly disappointed by this game. I wish they would just release elder scrolls 6. Bethesda has always been best at fantasy rpgs (in my opinion)

Very good and detailed review

You should try No Man's Sky if you like flying and fighting. They really nailed the space travel in that game.

The audio is messed up , I love walking into a room of red dots on my screen and they don’t do anything, leveling up makes no sense, no point to build custom ships or outpost or upgrade anything bc you lose all of that stuff , and then the new updates make no sense except for the land vehicle but how long will that take you to build or how much resources will you need for it . And I love when I die I have to uninstall and reinstall the game bc of audio issues, but hey I can decorate my ship

I'd agree they're all encompassing. There wasn't a part of Starfield that felt or looked good to me. Glad people were able to squeeze joy out of it, but I feel they had to bend over backwards to convince myself they did.

Really hoping creators club and DLC/future content and overhaul will salvage it. I really like the game, but it made a big pond that was very shallow. Would have been better with only a 100 deeply crafted planets, with different terrain, stories and locations or facilities

Great video Bill! Never played the game but what I saw of the game and heard was what really turned me away from it. Glad I didn’t spend the AAA price point for it

We had super different play throughs. I joined the porates right away and now any time I enter any planet I get jumped by 10-15 ships trying to kill me.... hit level 100 really fast and always sstole the last attacking ship, then sold them for insane money. I have like 8 or 9 star destroyer sized monsters lol
@thekittenmancer469725 күн бұрын
I also never play with a crew and only use melee weapons. I think I'm level 115ish and am still on my first play through

PLAY NEW VEGAS! please. There's a lot of filler in this one... Maybe play Eternal Darkness on the Game Cube. It's like a Lovecraftian Resident Evil. It's pretty cool.

Excellent review! I agree that starfield seems very... Empty. Pretty tired of paying $90 for an unfinished game
@skrunklyOwO25 күн бұрын
The game just tries to do too much at once which results in some systems being under baked. I still love the game though even with the flaws. So,etimss it’s just fun to relax and walk around a planet just to look at the different animals lol. That could just be me being easily entertained though.

I wouldn't say that. It's a solid 6.5 or 7/10. It's just a shame some features are impractical to even use.

8 months later and people, are still talking about Starfield. Definitely the game of the generation. I enjoyed Starfield a lot more, then so called "Game of the Year" games. Examples: God of Walking Simulator Last of us walking simulator and Baldurs Gate 3

The character development is definitely neat. And I'm still impressed by the dialogue programming.

Skyrim had awful skill trees too, which many forget. I mean, mods to correct that flaw showed just how bad they were. So, Bethesda has never been that good with RPG mechanics in my view.
@GoodOldDaysGaming27 күн бұрын
Yeah, the Smithing skill was useless kind of like this game's research skill.
@FloraJoannaK27 күн бұрын
@@GoodOldDaysGaming Yeah. Enchanting was bad too, and the attack skills just had flat boosts with minimal synergy. Pity, because it wasn't hard to improve...
@tbennin26 күн бұрын
It seems like Bethesda has good ideas, but never gets the execution right. For Elder Scrolls, smithing could have been super cool if you could make weapons that were much stronger than anything found in loot. And creating unique combinations of enchantments could be cool, but we could only put a max of two enchantments on a single item, and that's all the way at max enchanting. The ideas are good, but they aren't done in a good way. Same here for Starfield. Watching Bill's playthrough/hearing this review, it's clear that some of the stuff that sounds really cool on paper just wasn't done quite right. And it's a shame.

Alright. Only a few seconds in and you're very very wrong. It was more gender fluid than it ever was a solid game. Which of course is the same as saying the entire game is BS.
