One the most common things I’ve helped some people with is their bow isn’t tuned correctly. Cam timing, on your list, is critical. It helps tremendously if the archer is in good shooting shape so as to have at least some decent quality of shooting form. Hopefully, one that plans on killing with an arrow is involved enough to be shooting at least weeks ahead of the hunts. Over the years I’ve seen quite a few guys actually be at the range the weekend before the opening day shooting broadheads and just moving their sight. Yea, this may work and has just for broadheads but IMO, there’s a better? way? Anyway, great video especially for archers new to hunting with broadheads. 👍👍🏹👀

@Dialed in Hunter: any negatives to shooting the bare shaft before the fletched? I usually shoot it first to ensure no pierced fletchings. Def an issue as you mentioned when you lock in the BH arrow with the field tips. Great video, great tune, and great shooting! 🏹

Thanks! No, not at all. Just make sure you're sighted and dialed with fletched field tips before even thinking about picking up the bareshaft. I shoot the fletched first and then the bareshaft because I know the fletched is dialed at that point. The bareshaft is the variable. That's just how I think about it, but either way will tell you what you need to know. Great point about the pierced vanes.

I will say once again that you are living up to the named “Dialed In”. That was pretty slick. I have seen other people do it to, but since I have yet to get around to building my own arrows I have yet to try it myself. Hopefully I will this off season as I get ready for fall season. Well actually I want to take one Turkey 🦃 with a bow 🏹 this spring since I have two tags 🏷 in West Virginia. It starts on April 18th so I better get moving on this soon. Thanks 🙏 for sharing your thoughts and techniques Joshua.

Nice video. I learned something new and I will try this. One question I have is when you bare shaft tune, is the process always done this way in this video or can you get the same results if you shot a bare shaft in paper as a paper tuning process? Some people I watch on these videos paper tune a bare shaft and a fletcher shaft to get a perfect bullet hole. So which way is it done?
@DialedinHunter
@DialedinHunter Жыл бұрын
You can use paper as well, but I like the definitive groups downrange for bare shafting. It's the proof in the pudding that the broadhead is doing what you want. With that being said, I truly believe this whole tuning thing is personal preference. Some guys get great results walkback tuning. Others integrate nock tuning, bare shafts, and play with the length of their arrows to get different results. The end game is what it's all about though. If the broadhead does what you want, which is hit what you're looking at, it's a win. I've recently actually just started paper tuning at 3 and 6 yards to get my broadheads hitting with my field points. In terms of bare shaft tuning though, the method I go through in this video is what I prefer. Best of luck. Hope it goes well.

@@DialedinHunter Is it necessary to strip off the fletchings off all your arrows and bare shaft tune all your arrows or just have one bare shaft arrow to work with fletched arrows?
@bobbydenezza7795

I read 2 articles when I Googled how to bareshaft tune and one article says if you shoot a fletched arrow and a bareshaft arrow and if the bareshaft arrow hits to the right of the fletched arrow, move the rest to the right towards the bareshaft (chasing the bareshaft). And then the other article says if you the bareshaft and fletched arrow and if the bareshaft would hit to the right of the fletched arrow, move the arrow rest to the LEFT towards the fletched arrow (chasing the fletched arrow). I'm confused. Which one is it? I'm guess you should move your rest towards the fletched arrow since the bareshaft is expected to be shooting bad and you're trying to fix it to match the way the fletched arrow is shooting so you can group them together. Which one is it? Thanks.

This is a highly debated topic and it is indeed infuriating. I always move the rest TOWARD the bareshaft. The reason being is because the direction the bareshaft is away from the fletched is the direction that arrow is planing. For a bareshaft hitting right of fletched that indicates to me that the arrow is getting a tail left kick. Which puts the nose of the Arrow right. Which then causes the arrow to go right. It's the same adjustment when paper tuning. For a point right tear, or nock left(tail left kick...), you'd move the rest toward the point, to the right. That's how you'd get a bullet hole. And the same goes for if you're "broadhead tuning." Rest moves toward the broadhead, not away. Guys will argue about this all day and night. I came to the conclusion on what I do based off of my experience proofing these things. And also taking the advice of guys that are light years better than me. I hear ya though man. It's maddening the difference in opinions. Results are what speaks though. Hope that helps clear some stuff up.

I pretty much do the same except I like to BS tune before setting the rest of my pins. 👍🏼 One thing though, a BS hitting left is essentially a nock right condition, so in my head that should’ve been a “move rest to the right” adjustment, but bow tuning is weird sometimes and if it worked it works lol
@DialedinHunter
@DialedinHunter 2 жыл бұрын
So, bareshaft hitting left means nock right, which is correct. However it means you're getting a tail right kick, which then will make the arrow plane to the left. Notice how the arrow is slightly crooked in the target with the nock to the right. On the surface it makes more sense to move the rest towards the fletched shaft, but that would be adding to the tail right kick. The points of impact might come together, but in my experience the bareshaft isn't straight into the target. This will effect penetration. This is a highly argued topic and quite infuriating, lol.

@@DialedinHunter couldn't agree more re which way to move the rest. Why would I get a right tear through paper and remedy that by moving my rest LEFT, only to go out to find that I'm still a bare shaft slight right tear/left impact at distance but the solution is all of a sudden to move my rest to the RIGHT. It makes no logical sense to move the rest towards the fletched shaft because you are doing the opposite of universally agreed wisdom on how to get your paper tune close and you are referencing all your arrows to the one that has training wheels on and is potentially the most wayward. You could have brought the two arrows together moving the rest right, but your bare shafts angle would have gotten worse and worse the closer they got because you amplified a right tear as you went. Like what you showed if you move the rest left then they also come together BUT the bare shaft starts to fly straighter because you have continued to remove any right tear/left impact as you went. correct.

If you bareshaft tune, is it necessary to check your center shot by doing modified French tuning or does your center shot get lined up when you bareshaft tune?
@DialedinHunter
@DialedinHunter Жыл бұрын
I never check center shot after getting bareshaft tuned, broadhead tuned, or paper tuned. At that point it doesn't matter to me if I'm a little out of center shot, because the arrow is doing what I want it to do.
