Yoshikazu Watanabe / Watanabe Shoten
He is a craftsman who has been making Kyo-tsuzura baskets in Kyoto since 1931. Mr. Watanabe, now the third generation, handles everything from material selection to the finished product. He is the only craftsman in Japan who can call himself a Tsuzura-shi (Tsuzura craftsman). Watanabe Shoten is responsible for the production of "akeni" (a kind of travel bag used to store yukata) used in the sumo industry, and is recognized by the sumo industry, Japan's national sport, as a craftsman with proven skills.

Au pays du soleil levant les Sumotoris ont le rang de demi-Dieu donc pour satisfaire des personnes exigentes il est nécessaire d'avoir un talent . Pour moi cet artisan a un véritable don. La précision, le savoir faire , l'agilité, la simplicité et l'élégance. Mais j' ignore tout des exigences de ces figures emblêmatique Nippones. Il n'y a pas que mon avis qui est important Mais j'espère que ces œuvres plairont. En tout cas j'admire la finesse de son travail.

Beautiful product. I bought some of these about a year ago. They're lovely to behold but holy $%/^ they smell so strongly of chemicals. I don't know if I'll ever be able to put anything in them :(.
