sadly these little animals are hard ot care for properly. even if you do everything correctly they could still die young. their genetics plays a big part in that. i have 4 pet mice and i hope ill be able to keep them more than 3 years even if i know it is not likely to happen

Also another reason your hamster could bite you if it is not scared is because your hand smells like food. If your hand smells like any kind of food they may try to bite it seeing it as food. It coukd also just be trying to figure out what you are, and if you are food. They also don’t have very good eye sight so one of their main ways to identify something is to bite or nibble it

Reminds me of when I first got my winter white hamster, Peppercorn, who sadly passed away in 2019. For the first few days she was pretty bitey, to the point that once I was able to lift her off the ground because she jumped up and latched on to my phone case while I was taking a picture. Oddly enough, though, even then she showed restraint when it came to hands. Instead of biting enough to draw blood (like most other hamsters I've had) early on, she'd just kinda... nibble? It didn't hurt, but it was the kind of feeling that'd make you want to pull your hand away immediately because it seemed like she might bite down for real. That stopped happening super often after the first few weeks, but never completely; it felt like a kind of test she was posing. If you didn't yank your hand away she'd stop nibbling and sit on it, but if you did she wouldn't let you hold her at all until you didn't react to it. A test of will. Ah, Peppercorn... she was a strange little creature. Our cats all avoided her cage for some reason, something they'd never done for my rodents before and haven't done since. Maybe they were cautious because she'd eaten spiders on several occasions? We'll never know. Rest in peace, my little gremlin orb.

Well when lm kid around 8 years old my father long ago since around 2004 already give me 2 hamster and they make love and give birth around 8 or 12 baby’s l forgot..at that time l was happy the hamster that l pet same like this hamster... the thing is my hamster’s room quite good have sliding spot when they want to go down from above and 1 more room made of aquarium bigger than sliding room my father’s friend made it for us long ago but at that time l experienced my hamster pass away when l look them become old and more hamster pass away due to my inexperience about treat hamster properly

awe TTvTT i had a little brown and white hamster named, Lily (or chubby or chubsters). She was super cute T^T but sadly she passed away last year of 2020 due to a certain skin cancer. I blame myslef since I didn't clean her cage enough, next time I'll do my best to take care of them! They are tiny and fragile and can be quite prone to illnesses! So I advise you to make sure to take them to a vet before anything bad happens and clean their cage extra extra well. Also hamsters have sensitive eyes (my old hamster Goldie died from an eye infection). I miss them both, hamsters are so cute and precious.

I will just add, if a hammy is biting, you will 100% know if they are trying to eat you or just angry they dont usually draw blood when trying to taste you, but if you accidentally startle them and they bite, it will very likely draw blood

Is your hamster Cage too small? It's a possibility that they have cage rage, stress or just scared. If you are doing well in terms of basic necessity (right cage size etc) then you can use glove to pick it up or let it get used to it so it doesn't hurt! ❤️
