Can you talk about mobile gpus and their evolution, i have a 960m and seeing the gtx 1060 in laptops now makes me wonder if the 9xx series will be the last gen of mobile gpus

Yes, Nvidia won't be making mobile GPU's for now.

RoboCoffee The 9xxm series was the last mobile gpus from Nvidia, as far as I know. There are laptops with 1060s, 1070s and 1080s available and they carry the same specs as the ones used in desktops. I don't know if the chips are exactly the same tho.

Jeremy W I get old Intel dells for nothing, pay less than 50 euro for 550ti 500 GB disk and q6600... if you add a good cooler you have arma 2 at 80 fps 1080p, civilizations 5, etc... nothing beats it in terms of bang for buck. my fathers got a fx6300 with a 7700 1 GB ( basically the Xbox one GPU ) and it struggles to play anything :(
@centurybug8 жыл бұрын
Ben Phone Nothing like used hardware for value. It's sad that value chips like that APU (I'm guessing it's an APU) have such a poor price to performance ratio. I paid about $20 for an old Sandy bridge HP at an auction.. I put a 970 and an i5 in it and now it's my daily driver.
@centurybug8 жыл бұрын
***** really? Where I am it's easy to find Q6600s for around $15. I have an old (ivy) i5 and it's frustrating how many things are tied to single core performance which my chip is weak in .. I think you made the right choice with that Pentium.

z tech & music bruh I don't even have 100 bucks to spend right now I bought a g3258 for 45 bucks and it's still good lmao
@kamitenchi16497 жыл бұрын
I really don't think an x5650 or 2670 is faster than a 4790k when it comes to gaming. The X5650 is old and doesn't have the same level of instructions nor speed. Skylake and Kabylake are also faster with their top i7s. I know the post is old, but even at the time ryzen 7 was superior. So, no your old xeons are not faster. On top of that, they could only go toe to toe with a 4770k in terms of multitasking, not single core performance. So, you are highly exaggerating that.
@zapdust29287 жыл бұрын
z tech & music nah dude, amd ryzen 5 and the intel core i9 can easily beat it

As the user of an e3 1220 and an i3 7100 system, I can tell you certainly that the old xeons are really capable. While yea, against a $350 i7 it is obviously going to lose, it's actually faster than my brand new system.

Another rare chip is the Xeon X5698, a Super Super clocked core i3. It is dual core with HT on LGA1366 and runs at 4.4 GHz stock and boosts to 4.53 or 4.66 GHz with a 130W TDP. According to CPU world, it was only sold to Dell and HP for their high end servers. It pops out once in a while on eBay for an obscene amount of money. I've been lucky to order one on Alibaba for 150 CAD. It will arrive later this month. If you want to do a video on it, I can gladly provide help! Keep up your good work!

IIRC, the i7-880 was pretty rare even though it's showing up on Ebay now for under $150. The best I could do at the time was pick up a new i7-870 to step up from the 750. I was able to get about 3.2 GHz on air in a cramped HTPC box. Been running like a champ for over 5 years even after enduring a lightning strike that fried the Ethernet port. Plopped in a new GbE NIC and a cheap nVidia card, and it's strictly a HTPC.

AMD has a couple of HP-only desktop CPUs for Socket FM2+: FX-670K and FX-770K. They are the same as their Athlon X4 counterparts (APUs w/o GPU), but have the FX branding instead. There is also an extremely rare Opteron 4145 for Socket C32, which has 4 cores clocked at 3.5 GHz. Intel has the not-so-rare dual-core 4.4 GHz Xeon X5698 for LGA1366, and a practically-nonexistent, custom-made 6-core Ivy Bridge Xeon for LGA2011, clocked at 4.6 GHz but without Hyper Threading.

My personal favorite oddity was the Intel Xeon X5698; the 4.4GHz hyper-threaded dual core Westmere chip only sold to OEM builders. The chip isn't mentioned on Intel's website, and seems to be incredibly rare. These were apparently cherry picked 6-cores that had 4 cores disabled. Last I checked, they still fetch a hefty price on eBay when they come up for sale. They were the fastest clocked chip in the world until AMD's Steamroller FX chips stole the crown. For the record, the Intel chip is still faster than the FX chips...

My rarest processor is an Athlon XP 3000+ with a Barton core, but the odd thing about it is that it has an unlocked multiplier. Apparently only the first production batch has that feature, if I read that correctly. I hope so :D
