I'm sincerely curious how any highschool got to do this musical. It's got so many potentially offensive characters and situations ; the theater department must have compromising pictures of the entire school board. A+ for balls out bravery . Great job all round.

I doubt they had to have blackmail to do it - LOL The show itself having been written by Mel Brooks is considered an insult not to Jews, etc. , but to the bigots and haters who still believe that c**p about the Jews - or any ethnic group. Considering the amount of talent - vocal/dance and TAP!! that was shown - I have an idea this could be a performing arts HS ... all the videos of this production I've seen so far have been amazing ...

The whole point about the show - original movie, broadway musical and movie remake - is to make fun of the nazis. everyone and everything but especially the nazis. If people laugh at them no-one can take them seriously so they'll never be that powerful again.Mel Brooks himself (birth name Melvin Kaminsky) is jewish and also served in the last few years of ww2.

For a high school production, that was way above what I'd have expected. Professional actor here for nine years, lots of drama, comedy, and leads in musical comedies, so I speak with confidence when I say they (especially the two major male roles in the piece) were acting, singing, and dancing way above their pay grade. :)

Everything seems to be going right here - the sets are fantastic, the costumes properly gaudy, the smiles and swastikas, and Roger deBris camping it up. Toss on a heaping dollop of high school energy and this is utterly fantastic. To top it all off, this is one of the big showpieces of the whole show, and it has lived up to that demand here.

My schools stage program was going to do this but some PTA BS put the breaks on it. I got involved in the backstage program just for this show, still glad I did it. But man, I would have loved to work on a thing like this. Their crew must have put a lot of time into that set, and it looks magnificent. The lighting is spot on as well, and the performances tie it all together. I'm glad I saw this, I'm gonna see if I can get our school to try it again.

The talent, the choreography, the sets, the costumes, the orchestra...the amount of work put into just this number must have taken hours of rehearsal. The teens are talented. This is a great production. Money helps. Most of the homes in Summit are worth over a million and the mill rate is 20+. Many households pay over $20,000 per year in real estate taxes.. I doubt the young people in this wealthy suburb realize how lucky they are, since there are even wealthier NYC suburbs nearby. Wikidpedia has a nice entry about Summit, NJ.
