I am so happy for Daniel Radcliffe that his career didn't go the way of so many child superstars. He not only has multiple talents but he puts the work in and goes for it. He briefly had an alcohol problem, and he beat it young, and look at him now. He's a role model not only for keeping youthful success going but for overcoming your own demons.

Fun fact: this presentation was less than a month before the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, pt 2 premiere. He wrapped up filming for the movies in December 2010, and immediately started rehearsals for this musical, which opened in March 2011, and he stayed on the show all throughout the release of Deathly Hallows, doing press and premieres for the finale of his lifelong saga. Basically doing Potter by day and Finch by night for several months. Just before Harry Potter was over, he was already looking to move past that role, which is probably why he succeeded (without trying?).

@@sherryduggar8821 see I disagree. He is certainly not a singer along the lines of Jeremy Jordan, or George Hern, or Mandy Patinkin. However none of the actors who have played this specific role have been amazing singers. They can carry a tune and stay on pitch but they aren't really known for their singing voices. I find Daniel Radcliffe's voice to be on par with that. And I do think he has the charisma for the stage, I think he shows that in this video. He's never gonna star in Dear Evan Hansen or Book of Mormon, but he is right for these kind of shows, in my opinion. It’s called training and stamina. You have to understand, musical theater people are just like athletes. They train for years with dance classes and vocal training in order to be able to be able to sing and dance like that. It’s hard work. Anyone who says differently has never performed in a show. You think this is impressive, now do it 8 times a week. And if you’re in the ensemble you also not only need to learn your track, but also a few others. Back to watch this again! I saw Matthew Broderick's version on B'way ages ago, so it was a treat to see him co-present this. Loved it when it first aired, and it still gives me joy 12 years later. Daniel cemented his cred as a Triple Threat with this. His singing is on point, but his DANCING really blew me away! "Harry the Hoofer" he should be called! BRAVO Daniel and the cast!

Robert Morse created the role to perfection and he's hard to beat--his face, voice and mannerisms were just perfect! Daniel Radcliffe however has already demonstrated his prowess and versatility as an actor in the short time since he stepped away from the Harry Potter role in movies like Swiss Army Man and A Young Doctor's Notebook. I was impressed by his ability to sing while dancing...very difficult. (PS I agree with MissSmoochPooch about the choreography.) I like him more and more the more I see his work.

I confess to seeing this show twice on Broadway and Radcliffe was excellent but the King of the Brotherhood, who died today (Robert Morse) will never be surpassed. RIP, Mr. Morse.

How these guys can dance in suits incredibly is a wonder. And the choreography is both athletic and intricate. Big kudos to them all! Standing ovation
@martynnotman34674 жыл бұрын
The secret is the suits are not suit fabric. Extra stretchy dance costume material!
@DisasterAuntie Жыл бұрын
Hi, former quadruple threat (sing, dance, play instruments, act) here, and a performer off and on since 1975. The suits are made from a stretchy synthetic, very akin to the business suits I used to have to wear in the 90 and early 00s. The same fabric is used for some athletic wear; it's just cut to look like a suit, and it's a little looser so that it doesn't cling. The suits aren't impeding their movements at all! Nor are the shoes, which are the same idea: ballet shoe leather (very strong, but thin and flexible) with a small heel, cut to look like business shoes. The woman's shoes are what we call character shoes, and are basically just heeled tap shoes without the taps installed. Very sturdy, and very comfortable in comparison to most heeled shoes. They definitely deserve respect for the dancing, though! Just because the clothing isn't an impediment doesn't mean they're not awesome for doing it all. The choreography is pretty simple, actually, but being able to dance *while singing* (or playing an instrument) is one of the hardest things you can do as a performer, and every person on that stage is nailing it. Especially the soprano -- is that Rachel York, I wonder? -- who is not just singing, but singing in a range that is clearly audible, ringing out over every other voice, so if she makes a mistake or can't get the power to her voice, everyone would hear it unmistakably. The slightest waver would ruin her performance, but she doesn't make a single one. She hits and holds every note so solidly, more solidly than most non-Broadway-type performers can do even when not dancing. And of course, Radcliffe. That young man accomplished everything the others did, but he was doing it for the first time in his life, and working through dyspraxia as well. So many admirations for him.
