As a young Samoan kid growing up in the Hood right there where Juws is standing it was definitely different from compered to the outside because it’s Hawaii after all lol but in Kalihi, in the hood it was our own world, it was a different reality for us growing up in there. It wasn’t all sunshine & palm trees lol Before Samoans took over the projects & formed Gangs, the projects were mostly just Hawaiian & Asian families that lived in my projects. When us Samoans migrated from the motherland (American Samoa) the state started placing us in these housing projects in the 60s/70s. The 70s Hawaii didn’t really have a gang problem. The 70s just had only crime syndicates running the show. As the late 70s, early 80s rolled around the Gangbangin got serious influenced by what was going on in LA, The 1st generation of Samoans our OGs formed Gangs & started claiming their projects against other projects nearby. When me & my family moved into KVH I was around 6 years old I’m 35 now. The gangs were already there & the hood was packed with nothing but Samoan families At first but slowly as the years passed we Samoans started moving out or we just got evicted because there was too much crime & violence going on & the housing were blaming us Samoans lmao so they started evicting us lol Love my Hood & everyone we lost on the way.
