The Promise of Climate Justice | Michel Gelobter Ph.D. | TEDxMarinSalon

Michel discusses how Justice and Climate Change are inseparable, and understanding their unity is the key to transformative solutions. Michel Gelobter is the co-founder of the Green Leadership Trust, a coalition of the people of color and indigenous board members of US environmental organizations. He is the managing director of the non-profit Reflective Earth, chairman of Cooler, inc. (the Climate Change API), and the author of Lean Startups for Social Change: The Revolutionary Path to Big Impact. Michel co-authored the first reports on how climate change disproportionately impacts communities of color in the US and around the world. He also was instrumental in crafting the California Global Warming Solutions Act as well as the carbon fee mechanisms for 11 Northeastern States. Yet another person who isn't tackle the main culprit of climate change, agriculture. Literally over 50% and no one wants to talk about it. Lets talk about fossil fuel, which is only 18%. I know numbers are hard, but getting paid by the agriculture industry doesn't make the problem go away. It's starting to get extremely pathetic that everyone who has been talking about climate change have no balls to mention agriculture. Yep, keep focusing on one the smallest contributions to the climate, rather than the largest one that would make the most impact. Makes complete sense. The worse part, agriculture contributes to so many more problems that focusing on it would have such a HUGE impact not only on our lives, but the planet's future. smh

We literally have more than enough food to feed our current population and then some. How is turning 80% of land used for agriculture in to only 18% worth of calories sustainable?

Actually if you combine the totals of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide, the list goes like this.. 1) Power stations 2) Industrial processes 3) Transportation fuels 4) Agricultural byproducts 5) Fossil fuel retrieval, processing and distribution 6) Residential, commercial and other building sources 7) Burning from land use and biomass 8) Waste disposal and treatment. Certainly agricultural produces the greatest amount of methane *and* especially nitrous oxide emissions. But carbon dioxide is about 72% of the total greenhouse gas emissions, with methane at about 16% and nitrous oxide about 9% (the remaining 1% is made up of the left over fractions from each type of gas).

Very interesting and thank you for well organized toast. However, I don’t agree on the term fossil! They are Flammable Fuels and are just commodities that may scarce one day or rises just as other minerals. The concept of sustainability is very noble but it should not be enforced as they are the only solution for communities to live! Again enforcing laws and applying unlawful taxation for impacting climate could not be useful for neither communities nor government since most of taxation goes for the law developer unfairly.

With all the recent violence and riots we are beginning to see major problems with people living too close together. It seems to be that the problem is not a police issue or even a race issue, but an urban issue. People who live in more rural areas generally get along better than people in dense cities regardless of race or ethnicity.

The studies have even shown that if you instill a feeling of safety in conservatives, they are far more likely to concede to leftist views, whereas if you instill a feeling of fear in liberals, they are far more likely to concede to right wing views.

And isn't carbon dioxide something that is needed by all these trees I have in my yard?
