The composing in the DLC is absolutely phenomenal and always delivers for these bosses. The promised consort Radahn’s OST is such a powerful and divine soundtrack especially with context behind the character and the boss when you play the game and fight him. The composer truly knows how to make these osts unique and fit their character

the little interlude with the female vocals is only played in the cutscene that happens in the phase transition of the fight. The part at 6:10 is where you actually start the second phase and regain control of your character

In Elden Ring "Consort" is the title of someone who sits at the side of the God of the world and wields their power in their name. The first half of this song is Radahn, promised consort of the next God, fighting you with his own might. In the second phase the newly ascended God descends to grant him his godly powers, effectively turning him from "promised consort" to "consort" in the middle of the fight.

Midra, Lord of the Frenzied Flame is an absolute banger from the DLC!
@Orion_Mr.Starlight4 ай бұрын
For some context: In the first half you are fighting the greatest champion of the lands between restored to his prime, bending gravity itself to his will. When the female vocals come in, the person who revived him had asended to true godhood and now joins his consort in the final fight, raining down heavens light upon every strike.

Promise Consort, Radahn. Rahdan is the son of Lord Radagon, Champion of the Erdtree and Queen Renalla, of the full moon. Radahn was born into the Carian royal family on his mother's side, while his father was a part of the Erdtree lineage. He idolized the first Elden lord and first consort to Queen Merika the Eternal, Lord Godfrey. Radahn is adorn with red and gold armor with Lion images to honor the great warriors Lord Gofrey was. He was the ruler of the land of Calelid where he would learn Gravity magic so that his massive body would not crush his beloved steed Lenord. Radahn was greatly feared umong the other demigod children for his formidable strength. One such demigod took notice and formed a pack with him, so that he would become his consort. Miquella, the unalloyed had hatched a plan for him to assend to Godhood and with that bring his promised consort, Radahn, with him. The fist half of the song is the player coming to confront Miquella but finding Radahn standing guard before the Gate of Divinity. Upholding his vow, Radahn attacks, unwilling to let anyone interfere with Miquellas plans. In the middle of the song is when the player defeats Radahn. A brilliant light shines from the gate of Divinity as Miquella steps out, having been reborn as a God. Miquella climbs onto Radahns back and the fight begins again, now Radahn and Miquella both fight against you.

Fun fact about the language; while "inspired" by Latin, it's generally gibberish. I think the main idea, iirc, was to not take away from the experience by enforcing your own rigid interpretation of what the music is - this, in turn, is how most of the lore is, generally leaving massive holes for players to speculate and engage with. In other words, both the music and the story tend to work on the principle of "more is less"; there is a quality of it's own in unanswered questions and great mysteries that go unsolved, unconfirmed. Sadly, we never get any official lyrics (save for a sort of leak for the "Final Battle" OST in the main game, in which one can easily see that the lines SOUND Latin but are in truth total bogus). Typically, the only time we know the lyrics is when they ARE in genuine Latin, which people then try to transcribe. Else, it's made up lyrics thought up by the fans. Specific examples include Elden Ring's "Song of Lament" (a beautiful acapella sung by one specific yet seemingly randomly picked enemy) and the Bloodborne tracks, which are all confirmed to be in genuine Latin, leading to a few fans trying to transcribe them. Another fun example, though likely misheard, is how many fans detect the lead singer in the second phase of "The Promised Consort" mentioning "Marika Aeterna"(lit Marika the Eternal), one of the central characters to the plot of both the main game and the DLC. I won't yap too much about it because I could literally write an entire essay on just her, as well as FromSoft's genius in how and WHEN they present a character, and in which circumstances do they choose to _change_ our perception or, perhaps, _reinforce_ it, but just know that (assumedly) Miquella calling out to her in the OST is pleasantly surprising. Only one other instance exists where someone refers to her in song, and it's the aforementioned "Song of Lament" which is actually sung by the enemies, rather than being *just* ambiance. When present in an OST, it feels much more like something, heh, Greater acknowledging both Marika's impact on the world, as well as Miquella's attempt to right her wrongs.

The second half of the song still gives me chills. I come back to it regularly. Of course it's more enjoyable when you know the story that goes along with it, but it's beautiful nonetheless

I have an idea for you guys. You should (at least during video game song reactions) watch the cutscenes for these bosses bc they're supper well shot and will help you put the music to said boss or person in said game.

That sounds like a great idea. However, I’m gamer illiterate, what’s a cutscene? Is it the song played along with gameplay? That would be super helpful.

@@DavidBraileyLive cutscenes are basically little movie-esque videos played before, after and inbetween gameplay, usually to establish the respective scene.

the second phase vocals imo always struck me as miquella singing. it sounds both feminine but also enough like a choir boy that it it could realistically be him. and compared to radahn's "army" theme as he's fighting you alone in phase 1, the phase 2 vocals are gentle, which is miquella's entire thing. Kindly Miquella. Tender Miquella

The Promised Consort Radahn, champion of the Interregnum, a giant with a gentle and proud soul, is brought back to life and reduced to a puppet by Miquella, a demigod or ‘empyrean’ destined due to a curse to be eternally a child in both body and soul, in order to begin a new reign that will bring ‘peace’ and ‘kindness’ to the world, things longed for by Miquella to right the wrongs, persecutions and wars that the Goddess Marika, his mother, has inflicted on the world, bringing it almost to ruin. To achieve this he must become a God for good. In the second part of the song when the white voices start, Miquella appears before us to help Radhan and to carry out his plan, and has finally becomes a God, but at a very expensive price: he has given up everything, his body and his feelings, love and pain above all. We do not know if he was aware of the consequences of becoming a God, but how can a being without feelings have empathy? In fact, his ‘Gentile world’ is not a choice, a negotiation, but a mental imposition akin to hypnosis that will make everyone enslaved and incapable of self-determination in order to have a world of ‘peace’. That is why as players we come to fight them, to have a world where we can freely choose our own life and destiny.
