Scripture makes so much more complete sense without the immortal soul doctrines. It's also good to point out that Abraham was personally promised and will inherit the land as Jesus shows in Matthew 22v31-32, by God raising him.

Wow I didn't know that Israel had so many different landscapes. I literally thought it was all desert. Also that's so cool that land = earth as a foreshadow/type. Also, I just realized in the past two years that the new heaven/new earth (physical place) is where we're headed to and not just a spiritual new life in a spiritual heaven. Thanks!

Hey, I just wanted to comment. Genesis 1:26 God actually give mankind -Adam and Even dominion over all the earth. And that would include anything foreign to the earth...like the fallen ones. So it is very important for people to know. When Jesus died on the cross...He won that dominion back for us. When God gave Abraham the Land this is when the process of Redemption started. God said to Abraham thru you all nation of the earth would be blessed. He was talking of Jesus who would come out of one of the tribes of Israel and the Redemption by Jesus' blood to restore the blessings the First man and woman lost they had before their fall into sin. The Promised Land (Land that was given to the Children of Israel) is symbolically a representation of Heaven. This is the true Promised Land. This is why it is said that this is not our home. This is why Jesus said I go to prepare a place for you for where I am you shall be also.

Jenni, thanks for the comment. It's good to think about these things. I think your reference to Gen. 1:26 is important, in that in and through Jesus, God's original mandate to humankind to have dominion over the earth will come to be. In John 14:2-3, where Jesus said he was going to "prepare a place for you", he also added "and I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also". I understand that to mean that Jesus will come again to this earth, and we will be with him here. I think the same kind of idea is expressed in other places in the Bible, that is, that Jesus place in heaven is a preparatory stage to the next age. See for example the statement by Peter in Acts 3:20-21, "that he (God) may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, whom heaven must receive UNTIL the time for establishing all that God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from old". I think the apostles saw this in Old Testament scriptures like Psalm 110:1-2 (cf. Acts 2:34, Heb. 1:13) `The LORD said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, UNTIL I make thy enemies a stool for thy feet.' I don't see a place in the Scripture that says "this is not our home" (if you know of something, I'd like to know). 1 John (and other places) admonish us to "not love the world, or the things of the world". But I think that means this current world system that is passing away and needs redemption". But planet earth, indeed creation, is redeemable (see Romans 8:19-21) and God promises to set it free from the "futility curse" it is currently under. Like the Psalmist we appreciate and enjoy and praise God for his wonderful works of creation. Creation, including planet earth, God said, was "very good". Hi@@celloprof Thanks for taking a look. Consider that the word for "meet" in 1 Thess. 4:17 has the idea of going out to greet someone with the purpose of escorting them to their destination. The word doesn't occur much in the New Testament. But see Matthew 25:6, where the virgins go out to "meet" the groom, with the intention of escorting him to the marriage banquet (not stay in the place they met him). Or, Acts 28:15, where the believers went out to "meet" the Apostle Paul as he got near Rome. There intention was not to meet him and stay where they met him, but to escort him into the city. Matthew 24 v 35, 2 Peter 3, Revelation 21 v 1&2, says the old earth and heavens will be destroyed and a new heaven and earth made. The New Jerusalem could not come through the contaminated heavens to rest upon a sinful earth. It will be new. Rosie Higgs
