This premise is definitely a breath of fresh air to the shonen genre and it reminded me a lot of a dystopian fiction, 'never let me go' by kazuo ishiguro. But i am hesitant to pick up hyped manga, fearing that I would be disappointed, haha.

Use the hype simply to watch the show, not set your expectations of it. if a show is getting hyped up don't think of it as a "great series" right off the bat but more of a show worth at least checking out.

I've been reading this manga since the first chapter came out and it's definitely worth it. Very interesting moral concepts, fairly realistic characters, and TON of plot twists. And so far the lore is unraveling itself. This manga is a an easy long-runner.

The Promised Neverland is my favorite new shonen jump manga in years!! I think for years they tried to preserve what they had from the early 2000s, but they finally realized they have to bring new ideas to the magazine, otherwise it would die.

Hi. Thanks for telling me about this manga. I think that your idea is a good one. I have made the mistake of buying some series, only to find out that either the print, art, or story drove me crazy.
@TH-hr5yw6 жыл бұрын
You have quickly become my favorite manga related youtuber. There are tons of great channels on this site but your taste lines up almost exactly with mine. If you highly recommend something I feel confident to buy it off that and if you hate something I feel confident that I don't need to check it out for myself. So, I will have to check this series out. I love this series Idea and look forward to more videos like it. By the way, have you ever checked out Otoyomegatari? The relationship aspect can be off-putting initially but it is handled appropriately. I just mention it because I think it is the best slice of life I have read and I haven't seen it on your channel. I really like historical manga and things that are a bit ponderous without being pretentious and fits this bill really well. Also, Lone Wolf and Cub is amazing and I would love to hear your thoughts on it. However, as you noted in another video, the Dark Horse releases suck a ton of enjoyment out of the series. I bought the first 6 super cheap and ended up selling them without buying the rest because the quality was so poor. I really hope we get a decent release.

For me personally? Yes, it is. I won't be able to buy it until vol. 4 or 5, but then I'll buy it in bulk, while also reading online. One of the best manga I read in years! 2018 is gonna be the year I focus on mainly manga, because there is so much of it that just never gets animated. Probably because all of the ones I'm interested in are heavily for adults- Goodnight Punpun 20th Century Boys Promised Neverland Berserk REAL A Bride's Story Emma: A Victorian Romance Vinland Saga Billy Bat Pluto Jojo's Bizarre Adventure My Hero Academia ......And many I have yet to discover, but I'm really excited to read!>:)

It is soooo worth it. I consider it a well written masterpiece. Ever since I borrowed the manga from the library to give it a try, I could NOT put it down. I got sooooo addicted to it. Plus I'm a very picky person and hard to please, when it comes to mangas and animes. This one is on the top of my list with Fullmetal Alchemist manga. I finished one vol within a day or one hour. Today I bought Vols. 1 - 7. Can't wait for it to arrive. Since I couldn't wait to read the rest of the books in physical copy in the library, (due to placing them on hold from other libraries to arrive to my library) I started continuing reading it online. It was that good to not miss any reading time and suspense. I loved it. I have no regret in buying them. ❤️ It. P.S. I read all the Vols before I decided to buy them physically. Plus I wanna support the series.

Kong Fuzi The artbook is absolutely gorgeous. Very detailed art, in color, and in a unique style. Just be aware the book is as high as a Viz Signature manga, and square. It’s not a big book but if you don’t mind that, by all means: buy!

The Promised Neverland is one of the best manga, especially of the new stuff coming out, in Shonen Jump. Boku no Hero and Dr. Stone are the only manga on its level atm of the newcomers and as someone who is caught up with it I would highly recommend it. It stagnates a bit after the first arc but recently seems to be headed in a great direction. Volume 1 should be a thrilling read and have you antsy waiting for more.

IDK, it didn't live up to the opening arc but I wouldn't say the quality 'nose dived'. Maybe just a step or two backwards, before regaining it's momentum.

@InsidiousSwede6 жыл бұрын
Well the best thing about The Promised Neverland is that it doesn't feel like a Shounen Jump manga. It's similar to Death Note in that sense. Now DN is significantly better, but the Promised Neverland is still worth getting, even if you generally don't buy shounen manga.

This is another question which is the same as the one about the last Berserk video about the Golden Age arc. Why are you talking about it when there is not enough substance to back your claims? There are only 6 volumes available in Japanese, let alone the English release. Instead of recommending to buy it I'd say you should make it a recommendation to read it because you like it so far. Messing with people's wallets without enough data is not very nice and/or professional. I would personally not recommend anything to anyone unless it's complete and I've read it to completion (in terms of spending money on it), because series that fall at the end really make the previous purchases less worthwhile and tap into bad buying habits that are akin to lootbox gambling. I'd recommend making this a series for recommending to read manga and not to buy it, ESPECIALLY when it's incomplete or you have not experienced all of it.
@Emma-R6 жыл бұрын
SiMe A recommendation to read IS a recommendation to buy. How else are you gonna read it? And a lot of manga readers want to follow an ongoing manga series and not wait until the whole series is complete, which may take years. (And builds up the risk that the older volumes are gonna be out of print/hard to get). Also, I don’t think bad volumes diminish the worth of earlier volumes at all. The ‘good’ volumes can stand on their own. One arc can be absolute shit, but does that mean you suddenly can’t enjoy an earlier arc anymore that you thought was phenomenal? I beg to differ.
@SiMeGamer6 жыл бұрын
Mar Rastapopoulos That's not true. It's not the same. Recommending to buy a manga means showing your appreciation for the work itself and *in addition* the worth of the physical book. You can read it on the internet on some website or app. You can check it out like InsidiousSwede did in scanlations and then decide for yourself if you want to buy because: 1) You enjoy collecting physical manga 2) You hate reading online 3) Support the creator Yes, if it takes years to release, it's hard and maybe even not smart to wait with the recommendation, but one to read, not to buy. This guy has influence and can impact some of his viewers wallets, because they revere him much higher than they probably should. As for series becoming disappointing, it is a thing. If Naruto for example, becomes trash (which in my opinion it does), 3 things might happen: 1) *Regret* - You are frustrated that you've spent this money on this product and wish you'd've spent it on something else. 2) *Throwaway money* - You have already spent so much on this series, how can you not at least finish reading it and have all the volumes. (this is the same as spending a ton of money on lootboxes and saying you've already spent so much, you might as well get the thing) 3) *Your opinion* - a person makes a smart financial decision, sells everything or only what he/she doesn't like and everything is good with the world. The chance of option 1 and 2 happening are very high, especially with younger people and others who have no idea how to manage their money. Is it their fault that they don't know how to do those things? Most likely not. In my case for example, I was disappointed in Naruto, Nisekoi, Twin Star Exorcists, Freezing and Real Account (you can see me explaining some of that in my latest Sustain the Industry video). With Naruto, I loved the first 27 or so volumes, and I really disliked almost the entirety of everything that came after. But I am still going to rebuy Naruto in better quality volumes because I plan to reread some of it and use it for analysis and I can't stand reading from a screen. With Nisekoi, I loved the first 13 or so volumes and from there it was going down hill. I'm going to buy the last 25th volume next month because I plan to make a big analysis piece on it and I need it for that. With Twin Star Exorcists, Freezing and Real Account, I'm going to buy the next volumes to see if they keep going downhill or not in order to make a final decision to not bother with'em (choice 3 from the list). What if a person buys it and it turns to sht and they are not me (or you)? What if the series goes on an indefinite hiatus and now they are stuck with money spent for basically a *partial* experience, when they could've had a better *full* experience instead? I'm the exception. I buy all the manga I read because I hate reading from a monitor. To form an opinion on a series I'd buy a volume of it. This is not financially problematic because I can easily sell it if I dislike it (as I did with a whole bunch of manga already). But a lot of people don't do analysis, have a problem with reading manga from a monitor or know how to manage their money and their lives well enough. So it's not about me. It's about those people who will fall for a blind recommendation by Swede (despite how good or bad it is) and might later regret their decision and fall even further. This is a minute number of potential "victims", but it's easy enough to do the same content and not involve them in it. Not manga you should *buy,* but manga you should *read.* Simple as that. P.S. If he were to talk about the physical benefits of the product, I'd at least understand that, because he gives a REAL incentive to buy it rather than just read it. But he doesn't do that.

Hm, I’ve waited with high expectations for Promised Neverland after buying Demizu’s artbook, but after watching this video I must say I’m a little underwhelmed by the art. I didn’t expect the same art as the artbook of course, but I did expect more unique artwork with excitingly original and detailed backgrounds than what I see here. But as you say the story is worth it, I’m still gonna try it.
