Why you didn’t get a nice soft top like trektop black twill with a cage and your tent on top of the cage. The weight would be so much better. I agree with you for the tent I would never buy a roof tent that doesn’t just go up easy 😂I know the struggle

Great video Lucas. We always considered a roof top tent but ended up building a trailer to tow behind the TJ.

Thanks for the video man. I just got a hard shell pop up tent a couple months ago, and the cons are similar except for the time it takes to set up. Also, the hard shell pop up tent is quite long and is almost too big for the TJ, but it works. With the soft-top and hard shell pop up tent combo, the soft top flaps super loud (could be the crappy rack I got from smittybilt, large gap). Other than that the tent was comfy with a memory foam mattress, and built in LED lights. If you do get one, when you close the tent it can take a little longer then setting up, as you have to make sure you stuff everything in, and the air will sometimes make one side pop out again. Also things need to be cleared from the joints on the inside otherwise it won’t close all the way, my head lamp kept letting stuck in mine.

My camping set up is gazelle tent t3x and hammock. TJs already sit pretty tall so i personally dont like the look but maybe a thinner rrt might look better. I’ve look into the Go Fast Campers (superlite roof tent) & they look sickk! ⛺️

I agree! The GFC superlite is badassss!! And it’s only 80lbs! I have really considered it as my next tent. The waiting period for one I believe is into 2022 lol.

Only other cons I can think of besides needing to pee in the middle of the night is insulation or lack there of. I have a Yakima tent on a TJ which is like 40# lighter and is only a 3 season tent I think. Also if you camp with a medium to large dog. Easy to put one up in it but getting it out is a different story. But the pro is its a platform to sleep “in” your tj since the interior is so small unlike a jku or something. What are your thoughts on a small off-road trailer?

Definitely haha needing to get up to go to the bathroom is never fun. I’ve thought about a trailer and came close to starting the build on one. It’s definitely not off the table but not in the plans at the moment. I don’t think my Jeep would be able to pull it well but idk! What are your thoughts on it?

Colder sleeping on the ground more animals on the ground looking for food. And for most tents these are alot easier and faster to put up and take down. Those are my main reasons. Merry Christmas
