Hey Guys, just to let you know not everyone buys a vehicle as an investment. I drive my cars into the ground. I did not buy my model Y for the resale value 3 to 5 years down the road.

Absolutely. I bought mine as a car, not an investment. I drive it and enjoy it. It’s just a thing. Not going to complain about being an early adopter. I entered into this willingly and heavily educated, thanks in part to the OOS channel lineup.

Totally agree also cars are commonly bad financial “investments” more functional than anything. The best way to save money on a car is to buy it as cheap and good as you can and never get a new car until you have to. I love my model y and no matter how cool new cars get, I don’t actually plan on exchanging cars down the road. Pun intended.

Won’t any car burn through tires if you punch it off the line all the time? I just hit 50 K on my model three and I’m just thinking about getting new tires.

Totally agree. My entire family, including my 72 yo dad, has concerted to ev drivers. My dad and I wanted the ultimate isolation cars and no ice vehicle under $100k can match the drivetrain smoothness of an ev. My husband didn’t care for EVs and usually drives 3 series, which are getting crazy expensive. He now drives a polestar 2 and loves it better than his prior bmws. We don’t miss going to the gas stations or the frequent routine maintenance.

The good thing is that you enjoy all the fun much earlier as an early adopter.

Such a great video - the title says it all. Many who are so quick to criticize lose sight of the fact of where we are in the adoption curve of EVs. Can you image car-tubers back in the day when Henry Ford was pushing out the black Model A's?? Gosh, who's going to give up the reliable horse and buggy for these new fangled contraptions? Roads are crap; range is terrible; where do you get gas; reliability is terrible, etc... can you imagine? It's a wonder the horse and buggy disappeared. (mea culpa - happy owner of a Tesla with 30K+ miles)

The break even point for most EV from an environmental standpoint is like 3 years in. So even if you guys are buying new cars, the cars you sell used are still working toward that. With thinks like the magna motor that has easily recovered rare earth magnets and improved lithium reclamation that number is going to only get better. Short term depreciation and service costs are real issues. Hopefully this improves as pack rebuilding and recycling becomes more widespread.

Whoa! Tires… I have a 2021 M3 SR+, bought new, with 41,500 miles on it. I put new Nokian One Tyres on back at about 37,500 miles to replace the Michelin tires that came on the car. Not everyone is getting a new set of tires every 4k miles! I do love a spirited jump on the green lights, and tend to drive the twisties in an assertive manner. I enjoy the handling of this EV through the mountain roads around me (Sierras, Coastal Range). I have a good time! Also, for my typical 1,300 miles a month, I pay on average about $20/mo to “fuel” my EV. And that’s here in California (Sacramento). About $5/week to drive about 300 miles/week. I’d like to see some equally capable, sporty ICE vehicle even come close to Matching that. Enjoy.

Thanks guys... Please do a video on EV rental car options... As a Polestar 2 LRDM owner I recently traveled to Boston and was able to rent an RV for $82 for the week. It was a KIA Niro EV. Charging was awful... So slow... 44 kw max.. I think we spent almost 5 hours charging.... We didn't get dinged for returning with @ 60%. Stay safe, Tim

As much as we prefer EVs, I don’t rent EVs on vacations as I don’t want to waste my vacation time dealing w charging.

It sucks in California where electricity is over 35c per kWh but a lot of businesses have charging for free.

I'm so glad you enjoy the tremendous power of your BEVs. Thank you for elaborating about your high expenditures for tires in your cases in which you drive them very hard, but would you please also explain what tire usage is like when driven modestly. Expenses for operating these as supercars (which these essentially are) is understandably higher than for normal.

My wife and I both have EVs and love being able to charge at home. Her model 3 is over 2 years old and we have had no maintenance costs. Just after we got it the prices shot up so I had to wait until last June 2023 to get my Model Y. However, we really didn't "go green" it was just performance and cost savings. In fact we still own two gas cars we handed down to family members and they are driving more miles than we ever did. Because we typically hand cars down we don't really worry about resale value. For us it's better to drive the value out of it.

Early adopters?? Early adopters bought cars with 24kWh batteries and best case 70 mile range. I used a Eaton CHAdeMO that maxed out at 70 amps 😂

Max, love your video series, but I feel like this discussion would have been better served if you scripted out to some level. For example, I don't believe you touched on insurance though you mentioned it at the beginning, and you could have put up a spreadsheet or some numbers highlighting the overall cost compared to maybe your last ICE car. Also, I would have not recommend to that you can use a 240 dryer outlet for level 2 charging since most of those residential outlets are not rated to handle an EV continuous load. Just my two cents I'm building out your channel, and of course, I'm going to keep watching either way. 😁 Don't tell Kyle but I like your channel better. 😅
