I know this is an older video, but has anyone delved into the CANBUS to find the circuit that get activated when all the conditions are met for pre-conditioning? In my imagination there a few AND gates that activate independently (SOC > 20%, POI charger selected in NAV, distance to charger within X miles, & maybe more) that then allow the circuit for the pre-conditioning to start. If someone were to be able to find that circuit...hardware (or software) button to start without having to give up Carplay or Android Auto. I've seen a video on a new circuit board add-on for walk-away door locks, so I imagine that it's at least possible, but I lack the necessary skills and tools for tracking through the data. Just wondering if anyone else is attempting this.

With my Kia Niro, when I want to precondition my battery for maximum charging speed I need to use the Niro's own navigation system, select the charger I want and set it as a destination at least 10-20 minutes away from it, so the battery cells are warmed to optimum temperature to take a charge. My question: How do you use your ABRP via CarPlay on a USB connection and then switch to your car's native navigation 10-20 minutes prior to each charging station stop? Do you have to unplug ABRP/CarPlay and turn on the car's own navigation? That's pretty clunky and not something I would do while driving.

If you can program the key yourself, thieves can program new key themselves. That's it. Volvo and Polestar has this advantage that no magic device attached to a car would allow to program new key or run the car. I'm a long time Volvo user and never had a problem changing battery in the key fobs. And believe me I changed a lot of batteries over the years. And yes, if you damage the key fob or loose it, it will be costly to replace them.

If you're using 48 amps, and you're further than the 24 inches away from the panel for the hardwire option, you need to use a #4 wire for non metalic wire or #6 if you're installing in EMT electric metalic tubing, the ev charger (ev supply system), the system is considered for continuous use and must be calculated at 125% of it rating, so 48 amp by 125% is 60 amp 40 amp by 125% is 50 amp.

I’ve had my pack fail on my 2021 model Y manufactured in Fremont, February 2021 , I received it March 2021 I had 77,145 km on it. Yes I’m in Canada . Fully charged brand new. I was getting about anywhere from 393 to 400 km showing on the range just before the pack died anywhere from 383-390 km fully charged. That being said when I got my pack replaced and picked it up. It only showed 340 km max range to a full charge. I asked him what was going on. They said it was replaced according to Tesla standards. Here over two months later finally getting them to do a test on the battery pack and they say everything’s OK again telling me that it’s pulling 141 A I said the amps have nothing to do with it. How big is the battery pack? With hesitation, he told me they put a 50 kilowatt hour battery pack vehicle came with a 60 kW battery pack hence the 55 km range that I was missing. I question them for over two months. my car currently sits in the Tesla service department at Langford British Columbia. Canada contacted someone at Tesla and they said they’re going to have a supervisor talk to them. Should be interesting. What happens next

My Chevy Silverado EV has a manual preconditioning option which I like in case I’m not using navigation to get to battery chargers. My wife’s Rivian does not have a manual option yet but hopefully in future updates.

I think EVs are not designed to be easily repaired. You can do almost any repair on a gas car at home with basic tools or free loaner tools from your local auto parts store. One time my van was having trouble when I was traveling on vacation with my family. I was able to Google the problem and discovered I had a failing throttle body. So I stopped at a near by Autozone. Swapped out the part and was back on the road within 2 hours. You can't do that with an EV. If an EV dies, then there is no way to fix it yourself and you will have to pay to have it towed, sometimes at a very long distance, to a shop that services EVs. This is one of many factors that keeps me from owning an EV. Since they are giving you refurbished batteries under warranty, it makes me wonder if the batteries were brand new when the Tesla was as brand new. How would you know?

In 2024+ models, the Mach-E CarPlay using Apple Maps also includes the charging stops etc, where to stop within the Ford charging network including Tesla super chargers, Electrify America and many more on the Mustang Mach-E.

For anyone watching this in 2025, note that Ford has insanely good lease deals on their ‘24s, and their pricing for the ‘25s has been reduced significantly. If you get the Mach-E GT or GT with Performance package, which now both have Magneride and a much better ride than the “old” pre-Juniper Model Y, you can get those on a lease that’s cheaper than the Model at LR. And you don’t have to be associated with Elon Musk and his neo-Nazi antics.

GT with Performance is now 3.3s 0-60, and with lease deals that beat the Y. With that said, they’re all quick enough.

FYI i leave all over... there is a known bug that has to do with the Battery Conditioning mode. IF you use the app to change your scheduled time of charge, or state of charge, etc... it has the undesired effect of turning OFF the Battery conditioned mode. So... whenever you go on a trip in the cold and will be navigating to a charge, make sure that is still clicked. (I got caught because of this a few months ago, and I just checked yesterday when I changed the schedule with the app and it still did it.)

40 000 miles a year on EV ? From my calculation, he's at around 250-300 full charges a year (I stay conservateur on that number). That's with a brand new battery and everybody has a cell phone so everybody knows what happens to battery life over time... After a year, you need to constantly be watching your autonomy and where the next charger is... That's not a roadtrip, that's a chore. That stays in the realm of possibility (I believe he did it) but man... If it's done with coal electricity, I don't see what the gain is for the famous ''planet''. I'm affraid we're supposed to be told that we are barely extracting the current oil demand and that there are more important use than for our car. At least the electric grid is largely based on coal and gas (unlike our cars). That's the only reason the incentives would make sense.

Here we are a year later and still problems if you don't drive Tesla. I live in a big metropolitan area of almost 3 million people. And the Tesla chargers anywhere near me do NOT support anything other than Tesla. Apparently Tesla doesn't like upgrading chargers so they are the older ones that don't work with the adapters.

Ass much ass I always like the Q8 etron.... The EQE iss the way I'd go (though my choices would bbe the Sportback etron and EQE Ssedan). FOr me, etron is very , very good, but The Mercedes would take it to me do to its reliability on charging, confort, tech, and also, Looks (controversial opinion, but I do like the EQE sedan look). BBUT, where the Benz really wins for me, is on its efficiency. People at this price range may not care about how much a road trip would cost, or charging at home, BUT, if you do care a bit about where the pwower comes from (not likely form solar or wind, but rather coal or natural gas), the MB may be a bbit "greener" due to its amazing efficiency and slippynes. Always been an Audi fan myself, but between this two (granted, I'd be happy with EITHER vehicle), if I could pick, I'd schosose a MB EQE 350+ SSSedan, opt the quadra ssteer, and a couple of featuerss, bu tnot much, and I'd go with that. On charging, I'd give the MB and NACS is sHUGE for my choice. Knocked out cheaper cars that I was considering. Oh, The Fat etron :)

I would stay away unless you want to understand the long-term implications of EV ownership because there will be implications when owners live in near or sub-freezing climates where lithium batteries cannot be charged at low temps without permanent degradation or a battery mgt system that needs to use power to heat the batteries before they can accept a charge reliably.

Despite 5 degree AM temps the Mach-E predicted a 202 mile range on a 90% charge. I set the car to precondition the battery and cabin while still plugged in. I need to get the NACS Tesla adapter tough. Im

$250 to un-marry a key fob from a car is outright robbery! My experience with key fobs with ews or any modern security are just another way for dealers to charge an hour of labor for 20 minutes of actual work. Key fob for my 19 audi was $500 at a "discount" A 2012 Lexus I used to own, a new fob was $300 (back in 2015 at "dealer cost"). My 2014 BMW's were around $250 a few years ago (2019). I left a key for a leased Ford Exploder in Cancun - that costed $300 in 2015.

I purchased a used prestige Oct 23 for 32K before taxes etc. My one has been a pretty good vehicle, it did have a massive sunroof leak which was remedied at my local dealer. Mine does suffer from the cold brake shakes, keyless entry anomalies, the rear door windows make a crinkling noise, front passenger door rattles and worst of all is the pathetic miles per KW. After a little over a year of EV ownership, I cannot wait to go back to ice power.
