AWSOME video and we all appreciate the inside scope. I applied for Lufthansa here at Bush intercontinental airport in Houston Texas. I've always had a fascination with airplanes and the workings of an airport. I have till tomorrow to fill out the forms to set up orientation

Ya, it sucks with the BID... When I was there, my supervisor said when he was at IAH, he had a crew of ALLL Law Enforcement!! But with us it was hard to drop hours, so I couldn't do 24 hours with United, and then my LEO job... But glad you're having fun and enjoying your job with United.
@TheBohemianTraveler7 жыл бұрын
Steven Lam wow that that would be an interesting crew-all law-enforcement! I am really thankful that my station is so small and the way the flights are spaced, our hours are pretty minimal. We could always pick up as many hours as we want. I know one guy who works 50 hours a week by picking up everyone's shifts. But most of us have other jobs, so we just work our minimal hours. I'm thankful it's all working out. The best of both worlds. Thank you Steven.

Shirley Sands Great video idea! I will try to do one. But in a nutshell, the pros are you don't deal with angry passengers. The cons may be that you're dealing with other people's germs. However, with gloves and the right supplies, you will be able to protect yourself. Congrats on your new position! Thanks for watching!

Aww you're so kind. I hope you get it! It totally depends upon your training schedule and where you classes fall during the week. I worked for Delta before and thankfully even with another part-time job, I was able to make it work. Hopefully you can too.

It's very interesting to see and learn how things work from the ramp point of view but I'm wondering if sharing some of the things you do are a security concern. Ramp is definitely not for me, I've been at the reservations level for years and would like to have something else to do. Don't want to give up free travel but just don't know where to go next. Thanks for sharing videos.

D A Lewis My main concern is making sure I don’t share anything confidential or breach security. I just show my day in a very general way. I enjoy ramp. But it’s definitely not for everyone. I know it’s really hard to give up free travel. Thank you so much for your comment

Did you took a pre-Course for the ramp agent job and how my question did yall get
@TheBohemianTraveler7 жыл бұрын
Damian Junior we didn't have to take any pre-courses or anything. Everything was on the job training. Most airlines train you. From ramp to customer service, to flight attendant. They want you to do it their way.
@heatherkimbrel12875 жыл бұрын
Hi! LOVE YOUR Videos! I just got hired for customer service ticket/gate agent. I’m not exactly sure what area of the airport it’s in. Do you have any idea if that’s when you enter the airport or the boarding. I haven’t had my training yet so not exactly sure about anything yet. Also I’m ready reserve seasonal. Do you know anything about the ready reserve?? Thank you again!
@TheBohemianTraveler5 жыл бұрын
Heather Kimbrel congratulations! That is so exciting. Yes, I know what ready reserve is. I was that with Delta. I loved it. I worked about 16 hours a week. Customer service/ticket and gate agent is all the same. I do it all. Ticketing, gates, and baggage services. However, at larger airports, they tend to keep people in one location more. Congratulations again!
@heatherkimbrel12875 жыл бұрын
The Bohemian Traveler 🙏🏼 thank you. I absolutely love your knowledge as I’m so new to this new adventure but so excited. Thank you for your quick reply. I’ve got one last question, does ready reserve basically give you the option of job dates to choose from or just call you when they want you?
@TheBohemianTraveler5 жыл бұрын
Heather Kimbrel For me in my experience it doesn’t give you more options, but you work less hours. And you bid with other ready reserves. I don’t know about on call. I know that RR DGS is on call. I would schedule ahead of time.

very important question i need to ask. whats the training like ? do you have to know all the airport flight abbreviations? what kinda test are you tested on? thanks
@TheBohemianTraveler5 жыл бұрын
Val Thompson every airline is different. But when I did have to do the airport code test for an airline, they gave us a list of ones that we needed to know. They were the stations that the airline actually went to. When I worked for major airlines like United and Delta, they did not require us to have that test. But, if you do have that test, just study and study and study. You’ll get it. Congratulations!

How much do you typically get off for hotels? I'm about to work for an airline
@TheBohemianTraveler7 жыл бұрын
Morgan Costa Great question. It totally depends. I've gotten from 10% to 50% off of hotels. You can call the hotel and ask them if they do airline discounts, or on your airline employee site there also hotels that you can reserve. Also, whenever you're in an airport always show them your ID badge because you're always gonna get 10 to 15% minimum off on the food that you buy there. Good luck! And thank you so much for watching.

How soon.can u pick up.or give away shifts after getting hired with ua?
@TheBohemianTraveler7 жыл бұрын
James Hamilton when I was a United airlines flight attendant, we were able to do it right away. With the airline that I'm in now, they had us wait 30 days so that we could finish training. So, I'm not 100% sure about United ramp. I know Delta changed their policy make ramp agents wait 6 months before trading shifts. I have a lot of agents at my station that actually work for United as well. I will ask them the next time that I see them. Have a great day!

The Bohemian Traveler yes I got a job offer in a city, and the shift trade thing maybe a deal breaker for me. By the way between ua and aa who do u think is a better company to work for or are they both the same?
@TheBohemianTraveler7 жыл бұрын
James Hamilton congratulations on your job offer. I don't think there is too much of a difference between United airlines and American Airlines. I think they pretty much have the same type of job satisfaction and routes. The airline that stands out to me that has been the best company that I've worked for is Delta Airlines. They treat their workers really well and they get many incentives. Hopefully, you'll be able to do lots of trades right away so that the job will work for you. Even if you have to wait 30 days, if after that point you can personalize your schedule, it may be totally worth it.

Question how long did it take you to land your first Airline job . The reason why I’m asking cause I want to work for a commercial airline so bad cause working for a contractor company is not all that great and wanted to know
@TheBohemianTraveler5 жыл бұрын
I've applied so many times. I've worked for 4 airlines.Sometimes I got things right away. The longest I've applied between jobs was like 5 or 6 years. I kept applying and waiting for something to open up. If I was willing to work at LAX, it would have been much sooner. However, I needed something closer to my house. Don't give up! Keep trying. The fact that you have experience in the industry will give you a leg up. Oh I didn't read the question correctly. My first job in the industry was a flight attendant. I think it took a month or so.
