Of course safety and security is the biggest reason ......I love singapore.... Just 6 more months and I'll be back......

I lived in Singapore for 8 years. It is diverse, fun, expensive and add all the pros you mentioned. You can chew gum but you cannot sell or import them. As a person of colour you will face racism in Singapore as a con. And city keeps on getting expensive especially real estate. Post covid the entertainment had been severely curtailed in the city compared to before, so its a bit boring now I guess.

It's interesting what you say about racism. I've heard it's very pro diversity and it's history was founded on inclusivity so that's very interesting. If I can ask, what kind of situations did you face?

Racism? LMAO. Probably the last thing you’ll ever experience. You only think of that because you think people are all up on your business but it’s just in your head LMAO. U missed a couple of things on the Con section. SG dont ban chewing gum. SG bans the import of chewing gum. U can come from any other country, chew gum on our streets, dispose it correctly. No problem with that. The american kid was caned not only due to graffiti. He was charged with more than 50 counts of vandalism. And he pleaded guilty to vandalizing the cars in addition to stealing road signs.

After he was back in the states, he was cited in Florida for a number of violations, including careless driving, reckless driving, not reporting a crash, and having an open bottle of alcohol in a car. Later, in 1998, still in Florida, Fay was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, charges to which he confessed but was acquitted because of technical errors in his arrest.

@sadistmy
@sadistmy 4 жыл бұрын
@@Looloowa74 , just to add on. The act of chewing gum isnt criminal. But back in the days, most of us were irresponsible in disposing those chewed gum. And that had caused a lot of issues on hygiene but most importantly the maintenance and repairs of public places. U see, we had our first Metro/Subway in the mid 80's. With that in mind and the usual problem with gum being stuck on the escalators, causing an insane amount of money to repair for a mere gum is not feasible nor effective. So to prevent more maintenance and repairs to our Metro/Subway, we ban the import of gum. That was the reason behind it. Nothing mythical or draconian.
@musty9479

Lamma Al-B. Now you know, you just can’t import chewing gums but can chew gums. You just can’t find anywhere in Singapore that sells Chewing gums, and most of us go to other countries to buy chewing gums.

Nice video. I’ve never worked in Singapore, but I have visited several times. I’m not sure that the suggestion that Singapore relies on expatriates is true (unlike, say, Dubai). Singapore’s universities and schools are excellent, and my feeling is that a generation of extremely well educated and entrepreneurial Singaporeans occupy most of the jobs. (Exceptions might be in the hospitality industry - hotels, bars & restaurants - as I think a lot of employees there are Malaysian.) Also, Sentosa island wasn’t a prison - it was part of the British defences of the island, as it overlooked the main harbour.
@CHICVOYAGE
@CHICVOYAGE 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments. Yes I agree well educated locals but they are a bit coddled by the government and I've been often don't occupy the leadership of management roles due to a collective or group mindset. Clarification on Sentosa. Formerly used as a British military base and then a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp
@tomburke5311
@tomburke5311 3 жыл бұрын
Fair enough - you’ve worked there and I haven’t. Thanks for the clarification re. Sentosa - I wasn’t aware of the Japanese aspect. In fact, before I visited the National Museum there I was pretty ignorant of what happened to the local population between 1942 and 1945 - education in the UK tended to focus on what happened to the British military prisoners of war. Then I learned about the killings of Chinese Singaporeans, and the suffering of the population during the occupation, especially in the last year or so of the war, and was duly humbled.

Our Govt is not a control freak and we are not stupid people. There are Singaporean in management role too. I find that your knowledge of Singapore are very basic and you don’t know much! Singapore’s universities and schools are excellent, and my feeling is that a generation of extremely well educated and entrepreneurial Singaporeans occupy most of the jobs I would agree with this statement. What I do worry about is on one hand Singapore says they want global talent but then other hand they don;t offer a Point based PR system! without job offer in hand! So they are competing with Canada and Australia ! AUS has a 2 tier system, a 2 /4 year Work permit ( similar to Singapore) but at the same time you can apply for PR without needing a JOb offer in hand , The Self sponsored Employment pass that too not renewable in Singapore required you to earn atleast 18000 $ per month in your last job and they sya there is no pathway to PR after that!

It seems that your cons are a few more than your pros. I love going to Singapore! Love it! I wish Australia was just half as good and safe as Singapore.. I wish Australia's tax rate was as low as Singapore's. Instead Australia's tax rate is a ripoff. If one doesn't like Singapore or find it "boring" one has obviously not read up on Singapore, and really should give it a miss. Singapore does not sell its daughters and wives like Thailand does. I've been to Singapore around 7 times. I feel right at home there, and love the strictness! Religions intermix in marriage. Malaysia is also a wonderful country, but one cannot claim Malaysia to be anywhere near as safe as Singapore.

Singapore’s Tax is lower because it’s a city-state, Australia is one of the biggest continents on earth, and managing 25 million people inside it costs big money. Roads, infrastructure and environmental management are incredibly expensive. I do envy Singapore’s efficient government though! Easily one of the most intelligent and effective governments in the world.

The gum law if my favorite. Gum chewing is one of the most annoying habits people can have. Smacking lips like a cow, clicking it every few seconds and spitting it out on the sidewalks or public places. The biggest reason for me however is because I have misophonia so, certain noises extremely bother me to the point of anger and anxiety. Think of it like someone scratching the chalkboard with chalk. The fight or flight response kicks in and you'll either have to get away or block out the noise by covering your ears or wearing headphones. The specific voices that really trigger my misophonia might only bother the average person slightly but they can put up with it for a while before it gets really tiring, but for someone with misophonia its like being tortured....

I wonder how safe the food is if Singapore is importing their food from China. China food standards have gone down the tubes with additives. It’s gotten to the point where the athletes in the Beijing Olympics are warned to not eat certain a food. I don’t think Singapore has vast lands to raise crops or farm produce.

I don't think the chewing gum rule or the no vandalism rule is strict at all. Imagine if these 2 were allowed, Singapore will no longer look the way it looks. Does anyone like sitting on some train/bus seat to realise you sat on a gum? Or walk on the pavement and have gum stuck to your shoe?

The cons that you must notice.. 1.For riders or convoys of big bike, there is no way to do that in singapore! There is no highway to ride.. the distances were very short everywhere. 2. For raw materials of food, you must get from neighbour state/ country, johor bahru...its far cheaper! You can see tonnes of singaporean crossing the border every weekends to get it. 3. No mountains, jungle, lake and river.. how you can live without these 4 natural beauty? It's way too far to compare to thailand and indonesia and other nearby countries.. malaysia is not big enough but still can get those 4 .. 4. Government will scrapt your car after 5 years.. Singapore is great country to visit but not for living'. sorry my english! So, those are the things you must consider before moving to singapore... tq (im honest, don't get mad of me)😌😉👌 ♥️♥️♥️

@@Mr.2GD give it a try yourself. Probably more opportunities than other asian countries due to the friendly international business climate and english speaking. There is more competition for those jobs as there is limited space. Good luck.
