If Roman Wilson was as speedy as they say and good enough to wear the #1 then why did JJ never throw a deep ball to him? Saying because the offense seems silly, if you had a high powered tool, you would use it.

Hard to say JJ's performances were "amazing" given the offensive and defensive lines that Harbaugh constructed. How many college quarterbacks would thrive behind Michigan's O Line? Spencer Rattler? Bo Nix? Michael Penix? Pretty much anybody with a lick of talent. Not saying JJ ain't a top prospect, but the small sample size of his passing game is a legitimate issue, along with the absence of game pressure - that is, Michigan was usually winning.

To JJ's defense, he did run a Pro Style Offense under Harbaugh...not saying he's completely ready or polished since this was only his 2nd year as a starter...he definitely needs to continue to develop a bit more just like every other QB...but he's mobile which is a plus & he's a winner...as a Michigan fan, the only knock I can say about him is sometimes he can force a bad throw or make a bad decision but honestly those were rare...he didn't do that all the time...but also he can thread the needle and make an incredible throw/pass...wishing him the best in the NFL & he'll definitely be missed...Thanks for the Natty Title

As a Michigan fan, I am biased towards J.J. McCarthy. I think he's one of the better QBs in this draft. He's a proven winner, can be coached, he can make all the throws, read a defense, has mobility but doesn't depend on it, and has the ability to adapt to succeed within the confines of a game plan even if that means handing the ball off more than throwing it. He also comes from the tutelage of Jim Harbaugh, so I think he's well prepared to play in the NFL.

If you don't know how good JJ is by now, you haven't been paying attention. He's got a great arm and can through a football through the eye of a needle. In almost every game he plays in, he's the fastest guy on the field. He will go top ten in the draft, easily.

I would compare JJ McCathy to Brock Purdy--he might not be the prototype NFL QB, but he is hyper competitive and makes everyone around him better and should excel on a team with offensive weapons. He might end up being the steal of the 2024 draft if he goes in the later rounds.

What i liked about JJ is dude is a complete leader and team player. He was going for victories anyway he could. If that mean't he didn't make any plays with his arm and they had run, he was game. If he continues with that attitude and his work ethic, he could possibly go pretty far in the league.

JJ is an easy top 10 QB. Too many people have a fantasy football mind set. Drake Maye much more careless with the ball than McCarthy - playing inferior competition. Caleb Williams - a pin ball offense in a weak conference when it comes to defenses. Pathetic defenses across the board. What "pressure" throws did Williams make? Never saw him win a big game. JJ - 2 wins vs. Ohio St. 1 win vs. Alabama. COMBINED stats in these 3 games: 45/71 passing, 64%. 632 yards, 210 average. SEVEN TD passes and ZERO interceptions. 13 rushes for 69 yards and a TD. NONE of the other QBs played in nor won any game of the magnitude of these 3 games. Also, any college QB going against Nick Saban, down 20-13 with 4 minutes left in a playoff game - makes 3 of the biggest plays of the drive - 2 crucial passes and a long QB end around - has the "clutch gene" Laughable the amateurs here question this man's ability. Best QB in the draft, does not take him throwing 40 times per game to see it.

Didn’t jump out at you over 4 quarters?? Much of the season he didn’t play 4 quarters! Did you even watch?? Actually watch? Sometimes he wasn’t playing as much at end of 3rd quarters. Where were his elite receivers?? His receivers got it done. 〽️ had 15 wins with a balanced (heaviness to the run game) offense and an excellent defense. All they did (JJ did) is win. He was a great on-field manager. His skills combined with intelligence and grit got 〽️ a National Championship.

I find it funny that most of these ESPN pundits get 20-25 1st rounders wrong ever year single year. Sorry, I’m going with the coach who coached Andrew Luck and 2 very good QB’S in the NFL, and said in multiple interviews that J.J. is at the same level, or may be better, and is the best QB in Michigan history. I’m a data and football guy and will bet that in 3-5 years he will be in the final top 5-10, if not 1-4, of this 2024 draft. Also, JJ is only 21 years old and hasn’t played even a third or half of the games that the other four QB’s have played and here were are debating his talent and draft status. 😂 He is a true Junior. I don’t believe he will go in the top 10,but he absolutely should. I can’t wait to come back to this post 3-5 years from now and repost it. 😂

This is interesting. So JJ's lack of attemps is the sticking point. Don't make the mistake thinking of not asked to throw much vs can't throw much. McCarthy did have enough sample size of throws that you can project his numbers given more opportunity. His QBR is the second highest amongst QBs on the draft board at 90.7 playing the toughest defenses in the country. Is the expectation that his QBR plummets more he throws? Does his arm get tired? Here is a question what would be his numbers in the Washington offense vs what would Penix be with the Michigan offense? At the end of the day his combine numbers will tell. Everyone now is just reading tea leaves. Remember it is about potential vs accomplishments in the NFL draft. Tom Brady wasn't much of a college QB but Matt Linert and Tim Tebow was. What does this all mean? Nothing, if all the talking heads know what they were talking about they'd all be in the front offices..........

Saying there is a huge gulf between JJ and the top 3 is hubris. How many top 3 QBs have been worth it in the last 20yrs.For every Ponder there is a highly touted Zach Wilson.Even after all the evidence about how tough it is to identify franchise QBs people still make bombastic evaluations about them.A year ago Young was the overwhelming choice over Stroud.

The reality is JJ was a pro at handing the ball off. Now we sit here and make excuses about him becoming the guy. If he could carry the team it would've been asked to. No way he's top 25 based on his body of work. What I hear is hopes and wishes which puts in a late second-round or early third-round pick. Just call it like it is, People knocking Penix when he legit carried that offense week in and week out but giving JJ excuse after excuse. BS

These two clowns top 3 picks will be busts. Look for JJ and Nix to have the longest and most successful NFL careers. Williams is Johnny football. He will run around and get hurt. Maye and Daniels can throw to wide open guys because they only play 1 or 2 decent defense a year. Good luck wasting a pick on one of them.

JJ will be another Mac jones in the nfl. He's talented but can't trust him to throw 30+ times a game and definitely can't rely on his arm to win games. He will need to go to an ultra talented offensive team to succeed. If he goes top 10, he will be a backup within 3 years. I beg you to come back to this comment in 3 years

JJ will be the best QB in this class. He has a cannon for an arm. He is accurate with the ball. He can throw the intermediate routes and the long ball. He can run when needed, or on designed runs, and can throw on the run. He can read a defense and makes good decisions with the ball. IMO, JJ is more deserving to be the first QB taken in this draft, and the teams that pass on him, will regret it. JJ is not the toughest QB to rank for anyone that is a Michigan fan and watched the games. JJ has just as strong of an arm as any QB in this class, if not the strongest arm. JJ is accurate with the ball. JJ can read a defense and make quick decisions. JJ can run when needed and can scramble and throw accurately on the run as well. JJ checks every box for what a team wants from their QB. Not to mention, JJ is the youngest QB of the bunch and came from a pro style offense and is NFL ready.

There’s no doubting his talent. He has a rocket arm, is excellent at throwing on the run, and throwing against the grain. He can extend plays with his legs, but is also athletic enough as a runner to have designed runs and run for TDs. He’s also a GREAT leader. He has a lot of Zach Wilson in him, I’m talking about the BYU version of Zach Wilson, the one who got drafted 2nd overall. Very similar type of talents. I think he will get into the top 10 of the draft if he has a good combine and pro day. The only negative I see is, he very rarely was called up to be the guy to win the game. Michigan had a great run game and defense, and they were usually called upon to win some very close games. McCarthy was very rarely the guy that won the game. For instance, only threw 30+ times in a game 5 times in 2 years, and only threw for 300+ yards in a game 3 times in 2 years. He had 654 pass attempts in 2 years (29 games). Averaged 23 passing attempts per game.

Hahah this is laughable because McCarthy won’t be a good nfl qb at all he ran a system that depended on the run kiper is just wanting to put him high in the draft which he shouldn’t go until the 4th round. But kiper is the same guy who said jimmy clausen was a sure fire superstar in the nfl. McCarthy is not even over rated he’s just an average qb
