I feel bad for Zoey in this episode, for her it wasn't about her skin color, it was about a boy showing interest in her; and the moment it happens her friends start hating on her, bad mouthing her behind her back, dissociates with her, and makes her feel like no guy would want to go out with her. I get why they are upset, but they didn't have to take it out on Zoey the way they did.

This. Lets remember that Zoey is considered the least attractive in their group. The show made it quite apparent with how they reacted to each others’ glow up in the first episode and when it comes to Zoey, all she got was some awkward/unsure looks from her friends and just “you got tall”

Exactly that’s why I wasn’t 100% with them. They shouldn’t of went at Zoey like that and Penny should of said something about it but didn’t like how Zoey be doing to her in the past. So it’s like a different perspective and Penny and Zoey’s role was reversed in said scenario. They shouldn’t even of ghost her like that because of a boy, when in fact two of them are currently seeing someone and Michael is just too good for that.

This episode completely missed the mark for me. Yes, colorism is important to discuss, but the episode implies that Zoey is so unattractive that a conventionally handsome guy could only like her because of her race. Especially at the end where she only has Myron to dance with. There were also other white girls in the crowd, in the school, but the guy went straight to Zoey. Just poor execution. On another note, Penny and Djonay are terrible girlfriends lol.
@TonyTurner

That's what I also meant to say ‼ They used Zoey as a plot device and didn't really give her character justice when all she was doing was minding her business in that cafeteria. And Dijonay and Penny should be ashamed for that 😅

Noah was also straight up with Zoey about it. She asked and he was honest. But why was he interested in her specifically. She wasn't the only white girl available. She wasn't the first one he saw. Those questions would have changed the episode in a better way to me. Zoey was right to say they were jealous and wrong to treat her like that. Dijonay and Penny have boyfriends. Lacienaga can get any other guy she wants if she wasn't so focused on messing with Penny. Michael admitted he doesn't have a place in this issue. Maya just seems to be instigating. They just couldn't let Zoey win one time. She rarely ever gets something like this.

Penny did basically thirst over Noah in front of Kareem, it wasn’t just djonay, and she did get upset at Zoe over it but was the first one to try to fix things, she’s not perfect and she’s not fully innocent, really the only one who didn’t do anything wrong was Zoe, and I say that because it wasn’t Zoe’s choice to have Noah only like her, and she didn’t gloat about it, or hold it over her friends that he did, she was just out there trying to exist, and given that she has the more nerdy look and it’s tall and gangly, she probably doesn’t get the attention from guys the rest of her friends do, I get they had penny and djonay crushing for humor and for how they were trying to tackle this issue but they didn’t do it justice they victim shamed the only innocent party then had her apologize for everything, when she hadn’t done anything wrong.

I was kinda confused why they were so mad at *Zoey* right off the bat, because Zoey wasn't even there for the initial "he only dates white girls" conversation. Like, as soon as she heard about it at the party and had time to cool off from the fight she dropped him immediately after confronting him about it. I feel like they shoulda had Zoey actually hear Maya's original comment about Noah's colourism, then choosing not to believe it. They acted like she should have *known* he'd only be into her because she's white, because.... She's obviously not desirable for any other reason? That's actually just horrible. I liked the episode and the themes a lot, the way they took is so seriously, the acting, the realistic conflict... All great stuff! But the way they treated Zoey as the bad guy rather than Noah didn't really sit right. (also what the fuck, poor Kareem?? Like are they dating or *not* jeez lmao)

All while- as he said- two of them have boyfriends??? This was UGLY. The wrong way to tell this story or talk about this stuff. This episode was HORRIBLE, they took out their anger on Zoey who can't control that she's white and only went off of the rumors, nothing was conformed from him until she said he did admit it at the table scene. I do agree that they were just jealous and going off of rumors and took it out on Zoey. LaCienega implies at the conflict scene at the princess party that Zoey cannot get a date at all and that really hurts. Zoey has never had a chance to shine and find a love of her own, she's just some "ugly" girl in the friend group. I feel that Zoey could have found out the colorism on her own instead of her friends shunning her out of the friend group and hurting her for something she has no control over. This episode was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE AND IT MAKES ME SO MAD. Made the woman the villain as always.

A great storyline would've been Zoey dating the boy and gradually becoming disgusted by the way he speaks about black girls and realizing he's incredibly shallow and superficial and doesn't like her for her personality just her skin. He would probably make Zoe really uncomfortable with his comments towards her friends and she'd grow from the situation when she's has enough of his colorist views. The episode should've never been attempted if they were going to handle the situation so horribly. In the end, The POC just seemed jealous by directing their anger towards the wrong person and Zoey ended up apologizing even though she was mostly kept out of the loop. :(

What I dislike most about the episode was how Zoey's friends responded to the situation, with hate. You know I've been watching this show since it first aired way back when and I've always known that these 'friends' aren't really friends. Yet they try to convince you they are but as soon as something breaks the status quoe they instantly jump on each other, I've heard arguments about it being more realistic and I just wonder what type of friends people had when they were growing up because I dropped people that were like LaCienega, Dijonay, Maya, ect. No one should settle for friends like these. Even Penny has her own problems but at least she's likeable! Especially characters like Michael (and Maya) who's supposed to be the gay inclusive but acts like a diva stereotype and then they dress him up as Pocahontas? Indigenous communities have been trying to get Disney to stop using Pocahontas for decades and it's honestly a slap in the face. I like that they want to cover topics like this but the characters all suck, the message is muddled and isn't clear what exactly the problem was. I'm not saying they can't have the others hate on Zoey for what is clear miscommunication, but the problem is that they made it 'her' problem when she didn't even understand what the problem was. Because shes the 'white' girl, she can't possibly understand anything even if we try to explain it to her in a round about way instead of just outright saying why it's a problem that the guy only likes white girls. They just dumped her like they didn't care at all. They didn't even apologize! I get what they were going for but the episode missed and was messy.

Not because their skin is a specific color, etc. After all, Zoey dating him would've been a complete loss for her. Since the guy wouldn't have cared about who she is as a person. I mean, did you see how fast he jumped to the next person on his list? Absolutely no hesitation, which means he didn't like her that much. And Zoey deserves someone who will actually love her. Plus I'm proud of Zoey, she at least had the courage to ask him. Obviously he chose her. he had choice of other girls with white skin, so he found HER attractive. Why would he jump to the next person if she rejected him for no good reason? What is he supposed to do? Mope? They didnt have a relationship. Any normal non stalker would basically do the same. Like "Youre not into it, some else will be" I suppose at least she did ask him. While colorism is a serious issue that we as Black people have had to deal with on many levels, it feels like the episode could've done things better. First off, it's understandable to be attracted to a celebrity, but Penny and Dijonay were wrong to push Kareem and Darius to the side to get with Noah. Lord knows if the boys had done something similar to that they would've been called out on it. Secondly, Maya shouldn't have been repeating something that for all they know could have just been a lie. And thirdly, it was so wrong for them to dump on Zoey because of Noah's behavior, which again they could have been wrong about. While Noah did turn out to be someone with preferences that are wrong, Dijonay and Lacienga treating Zoey like she just doesn't get "it" was just wrong and they come off blaming the victim card and hurting a friend. Honestly, this episode was emotional rollercoaster that could've done better. And another thing that's frustrating is that no one calls out Penny, Lacienga, and Dijonay for their behavior or even Noah, who was just a plot device, for why he dates white girls just for being white.

While I commend them for trying to do a episode on colorism, there were just way too many problematic things that drowned out the message. First off, colorism is the discrimination against those with darker skin tones, typically among people of the same ethnic or racial group. A colorism episode would’ve made more sense if Noah only liked light skin girls. Secondly, Penny and Dijonay had boyfriends. Boyfriends that were into them and actually darker in skintone than Noah. So it made them look very unrootable and hypocritical to be angry at Noah for not wanting to date them(when they already had boyfriends). This made no sense. And lastly, Zoe was not told that he only date dated white girls. So for them to be mad at her more so then the guy made no sense. If Zoe had been in on the conversation, but still wanted to press on thinking that that wasn’t the case, then I could see. But she was not.

This episode would have been so much better if Zoey was the one with the conflict. Like, Noah casually says something disparaging about Black girls to her. And she's taken aback. But she's also conflicted because she likes getting attention from this handsome celebrity because she normally feels ugly and undesirable. And then her friends hear about it somehow and are angry at her FOR A VALID REASON because they're hurt she let Noah's comments slide. This would have allowed the conflict to happen without making all the POC girls look like jealous jerks and without demonizing Noah simply for choosing Zoey as his date

Penny and Dijonay have boyfriends. If they were concerned that some suspicious guy likes their FRIEND, they should talk to her and not get angry at her. They in some way offended her, saying that she has nothing to bring in the table other than her skin color, since she is not as pretty as them. They made it look like they are just jealous of Noah, when the episode should focus on the problem from a real perspective, not some teenage dating drama. Zoey hangs out with them - as the only white girl in the group. They should already guess that she might be naturally into who they are - a non-white man. So, this actually makes it look like she was the one liking Noah and they felt that "their man" was taken by someone who is not them. But it's Zoey who is with them and not that actor...

Penny is basically the unintentionally unsympathetic trope (this applies to both Suga Mama and Trudy as well). The show wants you to feel sympathetic to them but it's hard due to all 3 being extremely toxic. Then there are character's like Oscar, Papi, and Zoey who the show wants you to dislike and view them in the wrong depending on the episodes narrative but that falls flat when all three despite their individual flaws seem to always get unfair treatment. Papi (Suga Mama needs to learn about boundaries and that no means *NO* and be called out for her abuse and not it be sweeped under the rug as some poor attempt to be like "See! She loves her son deep down but is hard him to push forward!") which all know is completely nonsense.

This episode is a perfect example of my feelings towards The Proud Family as a whole. I can see the writing team's passion in the way they're perfectly willing to address topics like this without a filter on. But the execution just drags it down real hard for me and prevents me from actually liking the series. For a show that gets as preachy as this one, it's way too comfortable treating other very serious topics like child neglect, toxic friend groups and physical abuse as entertainment fuel. And it expects me to take take the side of characters who are honestly awful people. I'm just not gonna feel bad for people like Dijonay and LaCienaga when they are consistently terrible. And Sugah mama often being presented as this wise cool grandma never sat right with me because she has been established to have been a terrible parent towards Oscar, constantly favoring his brother while neglecting, belittling and beating him all his life, and yet somehow we're often meant to laugh at Oscar getting disrespected and beaten. Similar issues plague this episode. It paints Noah as the bad guy for only dating white girls, but he never actually goes out of his way hurt anyone, he's never mean or even dishonest. His biggest crime is being shallow, while the gang except for Penny were constantly shit talking Zoey and planned to kick her out of the group behind her back and have constantly done terrible things in the past themselves, especially Dijonay and LaCienaga. It's good that Zoey stopped going out with Noah, but realistically she should have also cut ties with everyone in the group except for Penny.

Honestly I'm not sure what to make of this episode. Yes, Nolan only dating Zoey because she's white and nothing else (not even caring enough to go to a dance alone suggesting he really didn't care as much as Zoey) is wrong. A type or a prefrence doesn't mean dating just a skin color but a type of personality and person. A guy can have a thing for red heads but still likes a girl for who she is in addition to looks. However, its BS none of the girls are called out for blaming Zoey for the situation. They should have asked Nolan and if confirmed, than tell Zoey so she can make her own choice. Zoey did nothing wrong and was subject to something shallow and narrow-minded yet she's the one ganged up on by her supposed friends. It's cruel. I will say though, colorisum is such a touchy subject because rather we want to admit it or not, most of us do have a prefrence to a skin tone. Personally I've never dated a person of darker skin tone and don't know if I ever will simply because they aren't whom I immedatly gravitate towards. Same for our darker peeps. Most of em do tend to date close to the same culture simply because it's familiar or what they feel drawn towards. Nothing wrong with that. But if only dating white is colorist, than only dating your ethnicity is too. So.. yeah. It's a subject that's hard narrow down simply because we all do tend to like onec type verses another. Still, I love the show tried to address it so future girls can be aware of it.

I think a lot of people really missed some things in the episode even what you’ve pointed out. - Hating on Zoey only caused a divide in the group. Under normal circumstances no one is going to stay in a friend group if they all designated you as unattractive. - Penny and Dijonay had WHOLE BOYFRIENDS and ignored their existence for the actor and was pressed over his preference which is something a lot of people are guilty of. I’ve actually retired from the whole talking point simply because whenever I’m in talks with women desirability politics is brought up and it looks like you’re settling for someone outside of what you really want and let’s be honest here, those are the first to jump ship at the slightest opportunity which is why a lot of men prefer to disengage in desirability politics in general. - Colorism is often an annoying topic because it’s more so about dating, but a lot of darker skinned people grew up being called ugly by grown ass adults.

This might be a bit long here so bear with me. Nothing is wrong with not being attracted to people of your own race/people of a specific race. My main issue is when the person with their racial preferences displays blatant racism towards not only other races they aren't attracted to, but their own as well. Here though, that isn't really the case. Noah did not outright disrespect Penny and her friends. I also think that Zoey did not deserve the treatment from her so-called friends either. It's even worse knowing that Dijonay and Penny have boyfriends. Zoey deserved better. If this episode wanted to tackle colourism, they should have focused on Penny and Trudy maybe...

I really hated this episode because it absolutely fails at its attempt to educate about colorism. It blames Zoey for Noah's preferences (which goes along with the sexist trope that girls are responsible for the behavior of the boys around them). The flaw with that logic though is people are allowed to have preferences even if you don't agree with them, Noah was never rude, he never said "no thanks I don't date dark girls", he just asked out the girl he had a preference towards. Elephant in the room, but notice Michael also shot his shot with Noah at the start "I'm Michael and I'm the baddest bitch", yet no one is demonizing Noah for not being willing to date a boy ... because that would be silly. Noah does not owe anyone a date to prove he's not racist. The girls had every right to feel hurt over being rejected, but not to lash out because of it.

That was something that also I kinda hated about the OG show as well. When it came to Trudy talking about celebrity crushes, it was all fun and games. But as soon as Oscar brings up his or even makes eyes at another woman, it's a problem. Take the episode about Thingy, for example. Penny spends the whole episode thinking that Oscar was cheating on her mom, and at the end it's revealed that's not the case. And then Trudy states that the love between her and Oscar could never be compromised, and jokingly says "Unless Denzel needed a private veterinarian", and they all laugh at her statement. But then, Oscar jokes about getting with Halle Berry if she wants his Proud Snacks secret formula. How does Penny and Trudy respond? By giving him dirty looks and dropping his not fully casted, broken foot on the floor and leaves him to suffer in physical agony. The double standards there still gets on my nerves to this day.

She really deserves better. I understand the girls reason for being upset, but they were taken out on the wrong person. Dijonay was definitely in the wrong for uninviting Zoey at _Penny’s_ party and drawing her as Maleficent.

The implication that I got from Noah's TV interview about wanting to go to the dance with a "perfectly normal girl" was that it wasn't just a "preference" for white girls that he had, but that he specifically had a problem against black girls in general. Of course they never expand upon this at all, because he doesn't get a speaking role for the rest of the episode. The way that they put down Zoey for what is essentially a rumor that she doesn't even KNOW about until the princess party is dumb too. All in all, it feels like they wanted so many topics to be discussed that they forgot to hone in on one consistent moral and stick with it.

Colorism is an issue, but the episode does not feel like it covers it very well. We don't get anything on Noah directly until the end of the episode, and even then it's just Zoe confronting him about a rumor. The party ends with "He only like you because you white. You're just jealous. You don't understand." I understood what they were wanting to do, but they didn't explain anything properly. The group was broadly acting like Zoe was unattractive and that the only reason Noah liked her was her skin tone. Zoe obviously feels uncomfortable hearing this fact, and brings up Myron when asked if anyone had asked her out. Zoe being defensive makes sense when you see that she is the whitest girl around when the show is a majority of People of Color. Her family barely shows up in the series as well. She even asks Myron if he only likes her because she's white. Zoe is going to have that question floating in her mind after this. I have sympathy for Zoe because she was made the target of everyone's feelings about Noah. They uninvited her because of what someone else did. Not to mention they took Maya's word as the truth and looked no deeper than that. And her source was her cousin. They never tried to give any actual reason as to why they believed Noah was Colorist. They went "We believe this new friend more than we care about you." Why are they giving Maya more clout in their group when she's almost always reading a book while around them, and the newest member of their group. They turned on Zoe so quick just because Maya says "Noah only dates white chicks". This friend they've known for years is dropped because a guy likes her. Zoe deserved more consideration than "This guy is Colorist, that's Zoe's fault". If it was a jealousy focused episode, it would be a bit better. Penny and Dijonay would still have Boyfriends, but running on the Jealousy of Zoe being asked out by a Celebrity would have been better. It also feels like what the episode was about and the Colorism was put in after. I mean Maya just saying "He only dates white girls", Noah's absence even though he's the issue, everyone attacking Zoe for no reason and the ending break-up seems so odd. How to improve the episode? Make Noah a bigger presence and show that he has the preference for white girls, and make the girls more concerned about how this would affect Zoe if she ever found out. Again, Zoe is the nerdy, white girl in a school of People of Color. She might start thinking the only reason people like her is some form of Colorism, and could harm her friendship with the rest of the girls. But those are just my thoughts.

This episode is more about interracial dating than it is about colorism. Colorism is discrimination against darker skin tones, normally within the same racial or ethnic group, like within the black community. Dijonay even said that Zoey cant understand colorism, so why use Zoey as an example of colorism instead of Penny? Its automatically assumed the guy only chose Zoey because she's white, they just met the guy and dont know his dating history. The show ends with their assumptioms of predjudice being true, he only liked Zoey because she was white. So, what was the moral of this episode? When you see a dark skinned guy with a light skinned girl we should assume its because of colorism, and always blame the victim?

My experience with "colorism" came from being one of the only white looking girls in school. I was bullied and called racial slurs and accused of having a better life than the other kids therefore I deserved hate.. When in all actuality I was worse off than a lot of those kids. Living out of a motel or the car with my mom. Not eating at home, wearing gas station flip flops and no jackets for the winter months. Being told by kids with new clothes, phones, and backpacks, with new haircuts that I was a problem. That I didnt know their struggle. And I'm not even white I'm just a light skinned Latina. They just assumed. Kids told me they weren't allowed to hang out with me because I'm white. I didn't even know what that meant. I was taught about race this way. And a lot of the black kids I asked about similar things happening to them said they had never been spoken to the way I had.. Don't teach kids this stuff. Don't teach kids to view the world as victims, don't teach kids to view themselves as less than. Because that shit sticks.

Heck, I'm a white guy and I was hated on by a number of kids at a middle school I attended just for being what I was, even though I acted very kind toward them. It got so insane that one black kid told me "You better be scared of us *plural version of n-word* whitey boy!" I was HORRIFIED. Growing up, that language had NEVER been tolerated in my family, for generations (my grandfather as a young doctor in the 1950s actually went out of his way to care for minority race migrant workers). Now this black kid was using that horrible slur like it was some term of power for his people. There were a couple other incidents by black students toward me that I'm not sure would be fully appropriate to share here, but were likewise awful and frightening. Until going to this particular school, I had NEVER had problems with black kids (although it might be noteworthy they were better off economically than the kids at this one), and I do not for a minute blame black people as a whole for how I was treated (thankfully though my parents got me out of that school after one year). There is however, definitely racism within at least part of the black community that REALLY needs to be addressed (at a couple of other schools I attended, the black and white kids got along great, but both of them would sadly draw insensitive caricatures of Mexican and Chinese folks and make jokes about them either being fat or wearing stupid hats). Racism or racial insensitivity is wrong no matter WHO it is aimed at.

Colorism is a serious issue, but I do not believe this episode addresses that issue (and if this was an attempt, it was done poorly). Like others have previously said, there is a difference between having a preference and being full on prejudice against someone based on their skin tone (or a colorist). The fact that this idea of preference is briefly mentioned and rejected in the episode let's me know that this is a one sided think piece. I don't plan to watch this season at all, but I hope the other episodes are effective.

I was really excited for season 2! While the original Proud family did talk about topics like colorism, racism, to name a couple, I believe the revival really dived into topics like that more and more. When I saw the episode about BeBe being on the spectrum of autism, I felt that one spoke to me. When I was around 5 years old, I was diagnosed with a learning disability which at the time the doctors I went to named it mental retardation, something I'm still sensitive about years later as an adult. But thinking about it now, autism wasn't talked about a lot in the early 90s. It took me years to realize that maybe I am on the spectrum.

The topic of this episode was colorism but it low key felt like it focuses more on toxic friendship. It’s no secret that the group has had a history of being bad friends to each other. It’s really messed up how the entire group disregards Zoey as their friend and leave Penny in the middle to try and reconcile things but ultimately giving in to peer pressure and cutting Zoey completely out. I’m not surprised to learn that the producers could possibly be colorists (most of Hollywood is) but I am surprised they went this route for the episode. I would’ve preferred that the group confronts Noah on his preference, colorism, and behavior rather than have the group blame Zoey. So much untapped potential for this episode. If I was Zoey, I wouldn’t have apologized for nothing. She didn’t do anything wrong.

I don’t understand why this is an issue for people. If someone finds black or white people more attractive then that’s what they like, you can’t force someone to like you just because you think they should. Gay people don’t like a certain gender, we can’t help our gender. Obviously if it’s become more of a feti** then yeah that’s an issue and yes obviously racism is bad, but someone being more attracted to lighter or darker skin is just a preference much like liking v’s better the d’s.

This episode tried to have an in-depth dissection about colorism but it totally missed the mark. The main issue is that all of Penny's friends criticize Zoey and the episode treats them as having righteous furry for doing so. The problem is, if they are trying to discuss colorism *they should have been made at Noah, not Zoey.* The episode has the gall to treat Penny's fiends treating Zoey like dirt as a commentary on colorism when Zoey didn't do anything wrong. She was asked out, she didn't know why Noah liked her, and all of her friends turned on her. The episode completely missed the mark here, it's blaming an innocent person for the crime of colorism. And the worst part is, the episode thinks Penny's friends are in the right. They say Zoey "doesn't get it" and later Zoey agrees with them, as if the show is trying to say something about white fragility. But when Zoey learned about this, she went and talked to Noah as a good friends should. Zoey was not in the wrong, but the show treat her like she was. I think this episode does more harm than good. The reason a lot of people aren't vibing with modern social justice movements is because they feel like they are being blame for problems outside of their control. And they feel like that because some people really do blame them for things they have nothing to do with. That's what happened here, the writers earnestly think Penny's friends were in the right and so the moral of the story is flat out wrong. That false moral reflects the false way the writers are view real social justice issues and they are doing more harm than good because instead of solving those issues, they are blaming and alienating people. That just creates more enemies and fails to address the real problem. Like in this case, if the girls were really mad about colorism or Zoey only being dated because she was white, their chief concern should have been Zoey. They should have been like "You can do better than him, he only cares about what you look like". But instead, they are all just made as Zoey because she was chosen over them. That's jealousy and it doesn't help that Dejonay and Penny both have boyfriends. So why are they so upset? They want something that they can't have anyway, care about a loser who doesn't even care about them, and blame their friend for the loser's actions. Dating someone for their color is wrong. But newsflash, what Penny's friends did to Zoey wasn't right in the slightest either. They blamed her, excluded her, and insulted her behind her back and to her face. And in a lot of ways, hearing that from your "friends" probably hurts more than being mistreated by a random celebrity. This show failed hold Penny's friends accountable and didn't talked the issue of colorism properly. All this speaks to the writer's own flaws and biases because it were those flaws and biases that leaked through in the moral of this episode.

At this point I think that it's pretty damn clear that the writers hate Black women. They not only did Zoey dirty, they did Penny, Dijonay, Maya, and Lacienega(ik she's not Black but still) dirty as well, because instead of talking to Noah about it or telling Zoey to ignore him(or Penny getting him cancelled lol, which would have been nice to see), they just made Zoey the villain in their narrative. A lot of Black men who only date white girls hate Black women because they think they are angry, ratchet, aggressive, and masculine, and are jealous of white women's beauty. And that's exactly what's going on here. Because despite the fact that Zoey is drawn as the "ugly" friend while the rest of the girls are more conventionally cute and attractive, it still feels like they're trying to say that Black girls are just jealous that they can't be as pretty as white girls and get "picked" by Black guys. And let's not even get into the colorism of Penny and Dijonay ditching their darkskin Black boyfriends for a lightskin dude. And I can't believe they had that line with Maya and Dijonay's boyfriend at the end. Yes, because Black women who question the "preference" for white girls from Black men are just bitter and violent and aggressive! Of course! That just confirmed it for me: the writers hate Black women.

Given how the episode was presented, I say the message was very muddled. Like Kareem, I asked why everyone was so upset over a rumor? Up until the moment we found out the rumors were true (at the every end of the episode mind you) I agreed with Zoey that the other girls were simply just jealous Noah did not choose them. Poor Zoey did not deserve that kind of treatment from her so-called friends. Not to mention no one even tried to explain to Zoey about the situation and how they felt about it. They just accused her of “stealing” Noah and immediately dipped from the conversation. How was Zoey suppose to understand if you do not even attempt to explain? We also never get Noah’s thoughts and feelings on the subject. For all we know, he is not against dating other types of girls, he is just more attracted to white girls. Or maybe he had a few dating disasters and it has affected his dating preferences. Or, off chance, he probably thought Zoey was the prettiest girl in the room to him. Again, we do not know! Noah is not featured outside of the initial scene he was introduced. The shows presentation of the subject on colorism, was ultimately mishandled and presented poorly. the core friend group mistreated Zoey for no good reason and everyone’s worst traits were on display, no one even tries to talk or have a civil conversation, we never explore Noahs physiology on the matter, everyone was mad over a rumor that was never confirmed until the very end, and why was anyone mad anyway?! IMO, Zoey needs new friends

I mean it literally was jealousy they were feeling towards Zoe, Bitter-Jealousy. Like at first before Maya had to open her big honker about the rumor and fuck things up like she usually does, it would have been more "I'm kinda annoyed with you Zoe but I'll get over it", but the rumor just dialed everybody's toxicity up to 100 and it turned into "How come the black guy isn't dating me, a black girl? He shouldn't be dating you, the white woman." Which is text-book jealousy. Even when handling the situation on the colorism aspect of things.

I was so happy to find out that the show was getting a continuation, but I have to admit that I’m really disappointed at the fact that a lot of it is also just a more updated continuation of a lot of the less spectacular stuff that happened on the OG version too - especially the continued fact that Penny really needs new friends and Zoey still not really having a backbone. Dijonay’s thoughtlessness and selfishness was a big reason for why she was never high on my list of fav characters and LaCienega… oof… Look - I’m Latina and the girl rubs me the wrong way so much that I’m surprised I don’t have bland spots. Granted, I do remember episodes from the OG where they learned something about themselves or owned up for their bs behavior and I know it’s the same for this renewal too, but I just feel like this behavior is a lot more blatantly obvious now what with the show incorporating a lot more of the modern elements that is really common with pre-teens and teens today. Does that make sense or am I the only one feeling this? Anyway regarding this episode, I really like when shows - especially animated ones - touch on serious and uncomfortable topics, but even then that’s kind of a… I guess I would call it “Russian Roulette” sort of move because it can either be done amazing and honest way or shows just the ugly without any type of positive or healthy lesson/growth and just goes more along with unhealthy stereotypes or social views… This episode, in my opinion, was definitely a mix of both of those and I’d say my heart goes out to both Penny and especially Zoey through out it. We all know for a fact that Zoey is not the most secure girl and that’s something that’s been obvious since the original series - sure she happens to be best friends with three of the most popular girls at her school, but that’s not gonna stop the fact that she certainly sticks out from their friend group, and not just because she happens to be the “Nerd or White Girl”. So you got to imagine what that must feel for her to hear and see her friends reacting so badly to the fact that this big-name celebrity who - happens to also be a really cute guy - is interested in her instead of her much prettier and outgoing friends… and all because she just so happens to be White? That has to hurt…

I think its peculiar because if the roles were reversed (only liking black women) no one would care. I have been rejected for having white skin but no one sees an issue with it. I think if you are going to see an problem, see it from all sides. I don't know how they would've handled it if the roles were reversed so no hate to this video, I just wanted to mention that it is a huge problem for everyone.

Amazing they're all terrible friends. They all laughed, including Zoey, at Penny when make up boy was making fun of her, and now they all, including Penny, just excluded Zoey because they were rejected. Dijonay just exposing Maya and her brother for having two dads and 0 consequences for her, just Maya and her brother. I really want to like this show, but how they all terrible and doesn't seem to realize that it's bothering me.

The whole episode irritated me they all hated on Zoey like it was her fault he only like white women. Also Penny and Lacenia always get boys. We never really seen Dijonay with a boy until now. It’s funny how Penny never realize her lightskin privilege. Then it irritated me because how does Dijonay and Penny both have handsome boyfriends but are mad about a boy who doesn’t even like them.

They couldn't replace Zoey with a black girl because she is a red head, so they had to done her dirty with a guy that finds her cute, but couldn't work out. And what was his sin? He just finds white girls prettier. Over a prefference. They make such a big deal about a guy that has a prefference it almost feels like a spitfull black woman was devastated that her crush had a prefference for white women and called that racism for whatever reason wrote this episode. What is gonna be next? If someone doesnt want to date women they are gonna call it sexist?

People are allowed to have preferences. We shouldn't controll people's sexualities (unless it's illegal) But society does play a large role our preferences. The way we can fix this is just having diversity in who pop culture calls beautiful and attractive. If there's equality in pop culture/environment then the preferences are down to genetics, and we can't control that.

As a white person I watched this episode with a higher empathy towards zoey's point of view. She didn't show any real interest in this guy until he showed an interest in her. Then all of her freinds sh!+ on HER becouse of his preference. She's not just white she's also really tall, ginger, glasses, and braces she duesnt have alot of guys coming to her door. Then a guy finaly walks past her more pretty friends to her and says she's the prettiest. That had to feel good for her and for her freinds to make her feel bad for it has to hurt. That last scene of her alone made me hurt. I half expected that last minute confusion she said he made was a lie she came up with cuz she chose her freinds over him. I liked how the show addressed the colorist issue and I can appreciate how the rest of the girls feelings were hurt. But it only gave a passing lip service at how Zoey would feel from being treated badly becouse some1 els has an opinion about her skin color. Would it have been any worse if he only dated tall redheads with glasses.

@{The Autumn Wind} red hair is fun and I'd gladly play conect the dots on any girl anywhere she wants me to but it's the teenage boy who's secure about himself enough to bring home a girl taller then him that's guna be worth a damn. Props to Miron for climbing that hill like the future CEO he is.

I kinda hate how the rest of them tell Zoey that she only had white privilege and she's not pretty enough compared to them And CLEARLY enough that Zoey was always insecure about her look, just one time they could have at least tried to not bring out that. They straight up said that she has white privilege , that's so fake af

Imo the message is to go where you're wanted. If a guy doesn't like you for what you are, he's not worth it anyways. If anything he's missing out. Know your worth ladies!!
