For most the history of Maine begins with the Missouri Compromise of 1820, however another Maine existed long before. This Maine would be split in two, one half becoming New Hampshire, the other becoming its' forgotten sister colony of New Somersetshire. All the while, the owners of these Colonies, and members of the Council for New England were bent on the destruction of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.

My mother was born in St. George, Maine, a town that's just opposite Matinicus Island. For years we vacationed there during the summer. Therefore many of these places that you mentioned are familiar to me. Nevertheless, you revealed a HUGE amount of historical information that was new to me. I appreciate your researching and organizing all of this information. Great job.

WOW! You are SUCH a history teacher that I've just realized I've been cross referencing 90% of everything you say by googling it for more information. Now I've started taking literal notes on paper in class. 😂

Great podcast! I was concerned by the chronology of when the authority of the Virginia Company of London and the Virginia Company of Plymouth began and ended? Also, when did the Council for New England overlap in ownership over the Virginia company?

Love learning about these times. My ancestors came into Plymouth and settled in Bristol. This ancestor was a man of the cloth and had a falling out with the King of England. Later one of his descendants mixed it up with the Greenshirts under Ethan Allen who plundered his home. Needles to say we have never been New Hampshire people

15:30 IT RUNS DEEPER: At the beginning of this episode, I was thinking, it's weird all my search started because of my 9th great grandfather living in Saybrook and fighting under John Mason. And my 11th great grandpa may very well be ""Sir Richard Egerton". But no other Edgerton wants to admit that. Now my tree with documents and DNA proof says I'm descended from a Levitt as well ... 😮😮😮😮 My 13th great grandfather: John Levitt 1510-1569 East Sussex, England m. Joan Eve Adams 1526-1586 Blocking, Essex, England (Her father was Sir Richard Adams of Gloucestershire, England) Through Levitt, I'm also descended from the line "Whipple," which I've heard you mention before, but I don't remember why. There's a "Captain John Whipple 1617-1685" in my tree. I had a 6th great grandmother Hannah Whipple, who married in 1752 a 6th great grandfather William Harrison, in New London, CT. Their 2nd great granddaughter would marry my Edgerton 3rd great. grandfather. 31:00 Thomas Morton had a brother: John Wills Morton (1650-1717) m. Mary Ring (1658-1731) Ebenezer Morton (1696-1750) Mercy Foster (1697-1782) Seth Morton (1732-1810) Hephzibah Packard (1733-1820) David C Morton (1770-1842) Mary Poly Snow (1785--1875) Hiram Morton (1820-1902) Amanda U EDGERTON (1819-1891) Albert W Morton (1847-1911) Wealthy Jane Seeley (1847-1921) Claud Morton (1870-1932) Maime Elizabeth EDGERTON (1881-1969) I realized this because I was looking through the photo album on Edgerton Family database 2 nights ago. I remember seeing a picture of Maime Elizabeth Edgerton with her name sub captioned below her given name as "Mrs. Claud Morton." So I just now sat and verified documents to prove that she is my 3rd cousin 3x removed. She is descended from my 5th great grandparents, Zebulon and Elizabeth (Tracy) Edgerton of Norwich, CT. Claud Morton's father's line is descended from the brother of Thomas Morton, the very same in this video. His grandmother is Amanda Uretta Edgerton, who's also descended from Zebulon Elizabeth Edgerton, from the same son as Maime Elizabeth Edgerton. This means that Claud is both a genetic Morton and Edgerton. And that the Edgertons are incestuous, which would colossally amplify the claim that we are descended from Sir Richard Egerton of London.

I live in Standish, a town named after Miles Standish. I'm going to be supplementing the school my kids have with this material. So invaluable. Do you have a list of the material you used to learn this? Like primary sources?

Maybe you could do a podcast about the wars in Maine with the French. It’s basically a forgotten war and nobody talks about it and it was bad. I’m related to Madikiwando through my French Canadian ancestry. The French had no proble having babies with the native Americans. The English brought women with them.
