Can you explain in some more detail why the USB to serial cable cannot be connected to the Psion directly? Does the Psion need a higher voltage and is that what the Max232 chip does? See your video at 6:11. P.S. Why didn't you use a CompactFlash card to get programs on the Psion?

Hi, the psi on is real RS232 (-10 to +10V or thereabouts). If you don’t have a real RS232 USB adapter (most are just 0-5V TTL), you need to convert those levels.

@@BrekMartin Thank you for your fast reply. Can that be the reason that I cannot achieve a proper connection to my vintage HP-96LX pocket computer? It has a serial port (RS232 I think) to send and receive files via Kermit, Xmodem etc. I've used 3 different USB to serial (UART) devices. All give garbled letters in PuTTY.

Really enjoyed watching all 4 parts. Did you managed to do any development with the C++ SDK? Would be great if you had a video on that.

Thanks :) and I did get the C++ SDK working with Win 7. It required chasing up MS Visual Studio 5, and some mucking about with scripts that assumed wrong paths or something like that. It’s been some time since then. I only eve compiled and ran the example programs, but the PSION Simulator worked fine too.

@@BrekMartin Good to know - am tempted to try some development. Thanks again for the Psion series - I was (and still am) a big fan. There's a series of articles about Psion on the Register - www.theregister.com/2007/06/26/psion_special/ which I found interesting.
